“Small rooms good service and parking ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Very small rooms with small double beds that were supposed to be queens. Room is small and either hot or cold. Breeze coming in window. No ac summers no way. Bedding is odd and would not stay on the bed over or under me. Not looking to go back. Also a long walk from downtown but they do have transit passes

My wife and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon and this hotel made Banff a really special part of our trip. We were upgraded to one of the suites which had a beautiful hot tub overlooking Banff and were greeted with a bottle of wine and a beautiful welcome and congratulations card. The room was just fantastic, everything that we could ever need and the service was awesome.

As far as the hotel and amenities themselves are concerned this is a really great location for a skiing holiday. There is a skihub desk inside the main lobby and the lodge is one of the locations for the ski shuttle to the 3 local skiing resorts. There is an underground locker for your ski gear and they also give you a free ROAM pass to catch the Banff public transport bus into the heart of the main road, which is otherwise probably a 10-15 minute walk.

There is a Keg steakhouse in the hotel which is part of the big Canadian chain which does really good steak if you don’t feel like making the trek back into the main town after a long day on the slopes.

Overall, I couldn’t fault this place, everything that you need, great value for money and fantastic service. Highly recommended.

My fiancé and I stayed at this hotel this past weekend. The staff was friendly but our room was disgusting. The room smelt stale and musky, the duvet cover was full of someone's hair, the toilet ran, the shower backed up and didn't drain properly and there were burnt out light bulbs in the room. I would not stay at this hotel again nor would I recommend anyone else stay here. It was extremely disappointing and uncomfortable.

Banff is a great town, but I would honestly look elsewhere for a hotel. Everyone was friendly, but our room was over the garage and by the front door. Everyone coming back at 2am was loud...when I mentioned it to the front desk in the morning they offered a 10% discount. Big deal...would spend money elsewhere. Room was dated as well. Bathroom was nice and clean. Spend the money and go elsewhere.

We have recently celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary in the Canadian Rockies, accompanied by our daughter and son-in law and, prior to returning to the place where we were married, (Emerald Lake Lodge), we had a couple of days in Banff.
We chose the Caribou Lodge for its excellent value for money and convenient location.
The hotel met all of our expectations, being spotlessly clean, well equipped with amenities and a warm, welcoming environment. Underground parking was another bonus although the vehicles in Canada in general are very large 4x4's and some parking spaces require extra care and attention. All in all the hotel fulfilled all our requirements admirably. The Keg Bar/Restaurant is a welcoming environment with attentive staff and excellent food/local beers at reasonable prices - worth a visit.
I feel obliged to recount something that happened to us during our stay that I feel is pretty unique.....
Our stay was divided into 2 x 2 nights (separated by our visit to Emerald Lake ).
On the first night we were agravated by what seemed like a whole classroom full of children running a screaming continuously in the hotel corridor outside our rooms. The front desk was contacted to request that security check on the situation. Someone was sent up, by which time there were just 2 children and one adult present. They were asked to return to their rooms.
On the second evening the situation became truly bizarre. It appears that the bulk of the rooms on level 2 were occupied by a junior hockey team/parents and they decided that they would all congregate in the corridor and have a party. They subsequently pulled the chairs from their rooms and were cooking food in the rooms and bringing it into the corridor to eat! The noise was just ridiculous. Their conversations were clearly audible in our room and they were under the impression that they were 'allowed' to make a noise up until 11pm.
Of course we contacted the desk and requested different rooms. This request was met and our luggage was transferred to rooms on floor 3, immediately. We explained to the Manager that the situation needed to be addressed, pointing out that it's not normal practice to hire a hotel corridor for functions. After a little hesitation, he agreed to go to the 2nd floor and see the extent of the disruption for himself. On his return, he told us that a function room had been offered to the group, but they said they could not afford to pay for it (or any in-house dining). Security were instructed to inform them that they were to leave there and then. The group has subsequently been banned from all hotels in the chain. The Manager had never encountered such a bizarre occurence in his career and is in his 'top ten' incidents!
As a result of the experience, we were offered a sizeable in-house credit and on our return a few days later we found we had been upgraded to Suites!
My wife and I occupied a corner loft suite, which is basically a duplex equipped with a lounge area with sofa and dining table/chairs, large flat-screen TV, simulated log fire and washroom on the lower level and on the upper level bedroom (balconied), king size bed, shower/wc, 2nd flat screen TV and a fully featured spa bath! For anyone considering a stay at this hotel I would say that it would be worth looking at upgrading to these rooms for a bit of self indulgence.
I think the Manager and his team handled the abnormal situation admirably and did all they could to make amends and, after all, the problem was not of the hotel's making - just a group of people with presumably no social skills.
Our visits to the Canadian Rockies have all been in the winter, so I can't comment on the overcrowding of the town during summer that some have mentioned below, but in February we have always had a great time and will be returning whenever we can to this excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at front have a little more traffic noise, being the main route into town centre, but not too...

Our third stay at the Caribou, we love the staff, the Keg and the easy access to the town and of course the mountains. Stayed in a two floor corner suite with open fire and jacuzzi which we loved. Had a couple of issues with the jacuzzi switching itself on in the middle of the night, but this was resolved by the excellent team. Booked some ski lessons with Traci, who is a brilliant instructor.
