“Good, but could be better.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014 via mobile

On the whole we really enjoyed our stay here. There are a few negatives that stopped me from giving the hotel a 5 star rating though.
Good:
Very quiet location in town.
Waiting and front desk staff are all friendly and helpful. Ask them anything, any time and they will be more than happy to help.
Rooms are a good size.
Free bus pass for local service.
Free hot tub &steam room.
Beds were comfy.

Bad:
It is very hot in the hotel and rooms have no air-con. You can the heating off and open the window, but then the smoke smells from the hotel's lobby fire come into the room!
House keeping is pretty bad, only just acceptable. The room maids failed every day to make the beds properly and the sheets came off in the night, exposing a bare mattress that is not too clean. The room looked like it hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner in a long time, a light coating of dust all over the room. Brightware (taps etc) and mirror in bathroom were never polished or cleaned during our stay.
Way too much chlorine is used in the hot tub and it made our eyes burn - so only used this once in a whole weeks stay!
I witnessed room service maid writing her own tips on the bills she had collected. In broad daylight in the lift, casually adding $3 to every bill that hadn't been filled in!

We really liked the hotel and can accept things like the heating and fire smoke are just the way it is. But i really do not think the housekeeping is up to par and needs some serious attention. We resulted to making the beds ourselves because the maids did such a poor job! If you pay on your room bill for anything please fully complete the form unless you want the staff to add their own tips!

On the whole I would honestly say it is worthwhile staying here and you could doubtless do worse elsewhere - they just need to improve in some areas (urgently).

I stayed here for the better part of a week for a business trip, so I am sure I didn't see it during the busy times. While the gym and rooms were smaller, the hotel overall was nice and had the amenities needed for the trip. The bar and restaurant were good for all of our meeting meals as well as pre-dinner drinks before heading out into town. Would stay there again if I go back for a non-work trip.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in a corner loft suite and it was perfect for a quick mountain getaway. The beds and bedding are perfect and there was no sound from neighboring rooms or the hallway thanks to the loft.

The on site Keg is awesome as it's one of our favorite restaurants. Great location within walking distance of downtown. Friendly and courteous front desk staff and great housekeeping. The only negative part of our stay was that the Keg was not great at room service. While it shows up quickly, the menu was very limited and everything we ordered showed up cold and dry as though it was left out or not covered during the trip upstairs.

Otherwise, we would highly recommend this hotel for any length of stay in banff. The loft room was almost too much for just a couple, but would be awesome for a family or group of 4 max.

This is my second time at the Caribou, absolutely love it.. I think it's the bed and pillows that make my stay worth the walk into down town Banff.. it honestly feels like you are sleeping on a big fluffy cloud! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Love the hot pool. Only complaint is the hot water kettle in the room was really dirty :( Other than that .. I would definitely stay here again!

The fireplace in the lobby was a welcoming sight and smell and the front desk staff was friendly. We were assigned to #414 but there is a huge LOUD fan outside the room and that noise is transferred into the room so we picked up the phone and requested a quieter room. A staff member appeared quickly with a new set of cardkeys for #457. Thanks for not making us do the leg work. ;-)

We settled into #457 assuming once we turned the thermostat down, the heat would subside. Wrong. That room was unbearably hot our entire 4 day stay. We folded up the heavy duvet and put it in the closet. We had to keep the window open (it was wintertime in Banff!!) day and night our entire stay. We talked to the front desk about this and they said the heat was set that high to keep the pipes from freezing.

The internet connection was our other problem; we could never get more than 2 bars our entire stay. We asked the front desk about this issue and they said they would have IT look into the problem. Nothing improved. We had to go to the Keg to send a business e-mail with an attachment where it worked perfectly.

The thing we really liked about this room was how quiet it was.

Room Tip: Avoid the 4th floor until they can turn the heat down.

A group of us girls did a night trip to banff. The hotel was very nice! Room was clean and nicely decorated. Bed was comfy. Never had a chance to check out the spa or pool but it looked very nice. Will have to recommend this hotel to others. I will be back!
