“OMG no compaints, except for a small musty smell”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed in cabin 24, a standalone cabin. Was exactly what my husband and I were looking for when we were able to have a weekend alone without our kids. Restaurant on site, breakfast was delicious.

The cabin was cosy but had a faint musty smell, but that is to be expected for a cabin so we never minded. It had towels, shampoos, conditioner, lotion etc and a mini fridge, and a tv. The tv had no channels, and only movies for rent from the office, but that isn't what we were there for.

It was exactly what we were looking for and will head back.

Room Tip: Cabin 24 was a nice cabin

Stayed here sept 28-30/14. Second time in my favorite cabin!! Beautiful setting, rustic, peaceful, relaxing. Brought our own breakfasts and one supper- I checked ahead regarding the BBQ. Unfortunately the BBQ s weren't hooked up ( they are building a lovely deck right now.) However the coordinator was more than happy to offer the kitchen staff to cook our sausages.
The lovely fireplace keeps the cabin toasty warm ( a few chilly nights).
Bed is very comfortable and clean, the small fridge provides plenty of room for perishables.
It is rustic but full of charm. Will happily return next fall!!!

We were at this property 2 years ago. This time we came for 3 nights for our 10th anniversary. We were given cabin #26. The bed and linens are top notch but I was surprised at the quality of the room. The carpet needed a good cleaning, eg, there was a big black built up spot by the couch. The table had 2chairs, one was ripped right down the middle. That really made it feel like a dive. Before leaving I checked under the bed and found other peoples stuff. One aft. I wanted to sit out on the porch but with the many cleaning girls racing around on golf carts, it was super noisy and dusty. They were having a ball, seeing how fast they could go on the bumpy roads.
The cabin is generally clean and quaint. I think it's time to update. They also want 189.00 a night for this.
We won't be going back even though it's so so quiet with no Wi Fi and trees surrounding you.

I didn't rate the noise level as quiet because of the golf carts.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin that is stand alone, last time we had a duplex cabin and you can hear their noise at...

The web photo of the Banff Bungalow (their smallest) looks like a stand-alone cabin. As they tell you when you enquire, it is a duplex. The adjoining unit is offset so that the units only share about half a wall. In any event, it was quiet. It is quite plain, rather small, but comfortable enough. There are two big chairs and a table on the veranda, and a small kitchen table with 2 padded chairs inside. No big upholstered chair - there wouldn't be room. Heat is from a thermostatically controlled propane heater. There is a small old-fashioned TV/VCR but no TV reception - videos may be rented. That's fine with me. There is a coffee maker and small electronic fridge, but no phone. The resort has no laundry but the sink is large, so you can wash, say, a T-shirt. All in all it was quite OK and I'd stay there again if visiting the canyon.

We spent 3 nights there. The cabins are older & more rustic than other places in Banff National Park. We quite enjoyed no tv, phone or internet service, however I still got cell service there. For the price we paid, we feel we got a good deal.

Room Tip: Numerous cabins, depending on requirements.

My mum, boyfriend and I stayed here in September, it was towards the end of season so we got upgraded to another cottage which had 2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and separate bathroom/toilet. The bathroom had an amazing roll top bath and loads of toiletries were supplied even though we only had one night. Everything we could have needed or wanted was there. Could of easily spent a week here. Will definitely return if in the area again

Stayed two nights at Johnston Canyon Resort in September, 2014. As mentioned by other reviewers on TA, you really can't beat the location and setting where the resort is located! There are several different categories of cabins available to book, we had a "Fireplace Cabin". It obviously had a fireplace (gas), a somewhat separate sitting area, small kitchen-like table and chairs, Queen-sized bed, toilet/shower, outside porch (all the cabins have one) with outside chairs and table. For us it was a perfect size, not too small or not larger than what we needed. It was clean, with rustic/antique feeling furnishings and doors. It did not have a kitchen, but did come with a mini-fridge and coffee maker with coffee/whitener/sugar provided. We checked out the smaller more basic cabins without fireplaces that had Double-beds and we were happy we chose the cabin category we did! Having the fireplace come on during the cool September night was a nice different touch :)!

We wanted to cook/prepare at least some of our own meals and having a kitchenette would have been helpful, which is available in a higher-priced cabin category. That said, we brought along a cooler and were able to have a light continental breakfast one day, bought our lunch along the way (at Storm Mountain Lodge) when we went out day-hiking. We had checked it out before coming and were advised that the Resort did have a central area with community gas BBQs, so we packed along all the fixings (food, dishes, cutlery, clean-up stuff) for a couple of nights of BBQ'ed dinners! Only two BBQs onsite, so as long as they're not too busy (no one was using them when we were there, but in Sept though!), then making your own dinner was easy, nothing better than cooking and eating outside in the forest on a beautiful evening, it always tastes better :)!!

We ate a breakfast and a lunch at the resort restaurant which is a short walk down the hill from the cabins. Food was good, service also good, and prices were quite reasonable considering they have a captive audience. Check-in was fast and courteous.

Overall, definitely worth the experience staying at Johnston Canyon Resort, but in doing so, manage your expectations! This is not and makes no pretence about being a 4 or 5 star resort, it's not! It's a unique overnight/stay experience in a forested setting in a rustic cabin with great ambience. Some people may find it 'too rustic', depends on your prior travel experience and what you're wanting and comfortable with! We really enjoyed it, but we also like camping and the outdoors :)!!!
