“A very nice place to stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We stayed at one of the Johnston Canyon Resort cabins for 5 days and used it as our base to explore the Banff area. The resort was very nice and the staff we very helpful. The cabin was clean and we had no complaints. There are only two downsides to the place. First, it is a major tourist attraction which means a fair number o people... however, that disadvantage was actually an advantage since we could get into the canyon early (which is the best viewing time for the upper falls) or late when the crowds have left. The second is that most of the cabins are actually duplexes... our other half was occupied only 2 of our 5 nights... but the walls are a bit thin. For the price, this was an excellent choice and worked great for us.

Room Tip: We stayed in Cabin 14A which was one of the cabins away from the Restaurant and Canyon and gave a ni...

We stayed in a 2 bedroomed chalet close to the restaurant, with views through the trees of the river. The veranda has chairs which was nice for watching the walkers go by (just a shame about the mosquitoes). The cabin was lovely inside. It was rustic, and a little dark, but spacious with pretty much everything you could need. The beds were comfortable, but the rooms could do with a dressing table of sorts or even just a mirror to get ready in front of. The bathroom was large with a beautiful ball and claw bath tub, and the shower was lovely and hot, but it was challenging to get the temperature right. It was useful having a separate toilet as we were sharing with family. The walk to the falls is exquisite! We enjoyed it so much, we walked there every day. The restaurant was OK. It's nothing fancy, but the food was fine. We had a dinner and a breakfast there. The staff were very good. They even popped in late afternoon on our second day to see if we needed anything and were more than happy to give us extra tea and coffee, tissues, and another pillow. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I think we stayed in number 8, and it was lovely and quite quiet considering it faced the river wher...

Everything about this cabin was awesome, right in front of the canyon, small, cosy and warm, nice bed, clean and well kept. The only reason why I've given it 4 stars was because of the shower! It didn't stay at a constant temperature and after a long hike in the sun I'd like to have a shower where I can relax, not dodge the hot and cold spurts.

Our first impressions of the Resort were very good. It was somewhat chilly when we arrived late in the evening and at check-in we found our registration form had already been filled out so all we had to do was verify the info and sign. Then we walked into a heated cabin, especially appreciated by my wife. Our rustic, simple wood cabin suited us perfectly. It was small with a comfortable bed and a 3 piece bathroom. We liked the fact that the cabins were set in a scattering of trees only a short walk from the beginning of Johnston Canyon and from the dining area and gift shop. We were doing hikes in the area so we appreciated having breakfast available starting at 8:00am, a hot shower when we returned and good selection on the menu at the restaurant for dinner. The homemade soup was delicious and the Buffalo burger with brie was tasty. The staff in the restaurant were cheerful and accommodating, it made meals very pleasant. We come to the Rockies often, we will certainly stay here again.

Happy to leave this review. This location is the best I've seen for customer care. A misplaced item found and being sent back to us. Besides that I am in love with the vintage charm of these beautiful cabins. Nice remote location and private. Will certainly return without a doubt!!! The trail is a must and great to take photos. Also must add the little diner inside by the gift shop is great,

We stayed here for 4 nights in cabin 24, and we couldn't ask for more! Nothing special on view or anything but for the price we got a rustic cabin feel with the amenity of a full bathroom which was perfect. Check in was a breeze and you are literally just steps from the start of Johnson's canyon which is a nice bonus! They do have a gift shop, coffee shop and full restaurant on site which is also a pleasant bonus. The rooms come with plenty of plug ins, gas fireplace, mini fridge and coffee maker! We were basically only here to sleep anyways and sit on te deck nite evening with some local beers! I would recommend staying here as it is peaceful and the price is right. We drive to banff for hiking and suppers as well as lake louise as it is smack dab in the muddle if both (25min drive either way) cabins are pet friendly and there are plenty if trails all over to take all within walking distance! The staff seemed overly friendly anywhere always talking or offering advice when asked. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this little rustic hideaway on the bow valley parkway!!

We stayed three nights in a river front cabin. Quite pleased - our cabin was updated, spacious and clean. Setting was lovely. Did not eat in the restaurants so I can't comment on them. Staff in store/restaurant area not overly welcoming (maybe borderline rude), but staff at checkin/checkout were fine.
