“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We stayed four nights at the end of August 2013. Our total cost after the room charge plus the tourism levy, tourism improvement fee, gst, was 662 CAD. The check in was fine, the staff on the desk always pleasant and helpful. Going up the stairs was a bit shabby. Our room was upstairs, and was clean, spacious and quiet. It was decorated in neutrals, cream, beige, pale golds and bronze. There was a settee and three armchairs, fridge, and TV unit with drawers. The TV was not flat screen, but huge and old. There was hanging space for clothes, suitcase stand and a dressing area with mirror and good lighting. .Also a bedside clock and phone. There did not appear to be air con as a fan was provided, but heating. You did hear train noise at night if you left the windows open. There was a tea and coffee maker. The bathroom was a good size, with a huge mirror and big lights over, so well lit. Plenty of lovely towels and toiletries. The location was superb, just a minutes walk to all the shops and restraunts. Nestas supermarket just down the road was a great place to buy your picnic. We ate at the Coyote Grill twice, where food and service was excellent. Not impressed with Wild Bills. We had breakfast at Melissa's next to the hotel,, which was a bit variable, but overall not too bad. Banff is VERY busy at weekends, and the receptionist told us it was allways like that, and you need to book in advance. My review is as accurate as possible, as I made notes on all the hotels as I went along. We were perfectly satisfied with our stay at this hotel.

We managed to book into this hotel at very short notice. The room was quite comfortable although a bit dated. It was very clean. Plenty of hot water. Staff at reception were extremely helpful. We had breakfast at the sister hotel across the road. We were given vouchers for buy one breakfast and get two. Breakfast was very good. Very convenient for downtown and reasonably priced. We had an option of a ground floor or third floor room. We chose the ground floor however in hindsight the third floor would have been quieter. There was a lot of noise with people walking about in the room above.

Room Tip: Go for the third floor as it won't be so noisy.

Centrally located but still quiet, spacious, clean and comfortable rooms.
Perfect buffet in the joined hotel. Very polite and helping reception.
A receptionist named Samantha was exceedingly helpful with a lot of patience, useful information and smiles.

Good location & very handy for a stroll into the lovely town of Banff.
The room was spacious & clean. The door opened onto a back yard where cooking smells were very strong. We were on the ground floor & there was a lot of noise from the upper rooms, but otherwise the location was quiet. There were restaurant & pool facilites in the Park Inn Hotel across the road.
It did the trick for a two night, on-tour stay.

We stayed here over the weekend and it was average. The reviews are pretty accurate. We liked that it was pet friendly. Our dog had a great stay. I think that it was a bit expensive for the quality. We liked the pool that you can use over at the Banff Park Lodge. The steam room there was great. The shower in our room was like being washed with a power washer. The parking was limited but the motel is close to everything so you can get your spot when you check in and you don't have to drive for the rest of the trip. It was really loud outside our room at night, we barely slept at all because of that. All in all it was an okay stay. If it weren't for the pet friendly room for a reasonable price I wouldn't have stayed here but we love our dog so it was worth it.

The good thing about the hotel is its location - it is near downtown Banff.

However, the hotel room was dated, smelt a bit musky with no air-conditioning (and warm in summer) and it had noisey floor, which meant if anyone upstairs walk about, it would affect the guests below . Also I thought the blankets smelt funny and when I inquired, I found out from hotel staff that the hotel did not change clean blankets in rooms for a week - were they serious? I could not believe my ears!

There was a party upstairs. During the first night, I heard what sounded like rats or mice running around upstairs. It was so noisey that I could hardly sleep . The second night, it happened again but this time, I went up to find out what was happening . I discovered they were not rodents at all but some human species was having a party in one of the upstairs rooms. They had so many people in that room that some of the party goers had to come out into the balcony walkway outside the room.

I complained to hotel receptionist who took action and chucked them out. I am grateful for her quick response.

I have to say the front office staff are always friendly, but the poor standard of the room and the infrequent changing of blankets (if true) caused me real concern and I feel the latter the responsibility of management. I hope the management of this hotel will read this and pull up their socks. Even better, I hope the director of this hotel will read this and tell the hotel manager off. There is certainly a lot of room for improvement.

This hotel could have been very nice if management have put some effort into improving it, but it seemed to be somewhat neglected .

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor.

We take all feedback, both positive and negative, very seriously and appreciate when someone takes the time to let us know what was good and what we can improve on.

The Homestead Inn is indeed an older hotel with basic amenities and facilities and this is reflected in our price point. In saying this, guests do receive complimentary access to the pool and recreation facilities directly across the street at our sister hotel the Banff Park Lodge. Plans are also in the works to re-develop the property in the near future.

Despite the age of the rooms, we maintain a very high housekeeping standard and are proud to be recipients of the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association award for housekeeping for the past two years. Please know that I have passed your review onto our Housekeeping Manager to investigate and address with her team.

I do sincerely apologise that you were disturbed during the night by the guests above you. We do have a strict ‘no party’ policy here at the Homestead Inn and if we receive a complaint we will, as you mentioned, evict guests when necessary to ensure that all guests can have an enjoyable stay.

If you have any further questions or concerns that you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me directly any time.

Regards,

Samantha Taylor

We spent two nights here on our trip through the rockies. The hotel is ideally situated and walking distance to all shops and restaurants. We did not check out the pool and spa or the breakfast (not included) at their partner hotel across the street.

Pros:
- Great location
- Nicely maintained front yard
- Large room
- Clean

Cons:
- Overall, doesn't seem very well up-kept
- Windows did not close completely
- Wifi not complimentary
- No elevator and only one stairwell at one end of the hotel
