We just got back from our second trip to Hidden Ridge Resort, and again they exceeded our expectations. We were looking for a weekend getaway, close to Calgary, and this is the perfect choice. We loved our room the first time and I found it a nice touch that when we returned they gave us the same room again. It is a perfect room for our family: an upstairs loft with two queen beds and a bathroom with sink and toilet for our girls. And downstairs, the private bedroom for Mom and Dad is such a treat. There is a full kitchen with fridge, stove, sink, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, coffee maker (I'm sure I'm forgetting something) and enough dishes, cooking gadgets and utensils and pots and pans. There is a full size dining room table, plus sofa (which pulls out into a bed, but we have never used it) with tables my girls love to use to colour on. The wood burning fireplace is a huge treat for our family, and the balcony makes for great late night star gazing which we don't get in the city of Calgary.
Two highlights for us are the large heated pool and the DVD library. The resort has two beautiful outdoor "hot tubs" plus a sauna. The hot tub is a large, hot pool with room for lots of people. We usually left that one to the adults without kids so they could have a more relaxing experience, but the even larger heated pool just below has ample room for many families and is hot enough to keep us all warm while surrounded by snow :) We love the irregular shape of this pool with the two smaller circular ends that provide ample little nooks to claim as your own while indulging in the view. Another treat, is the complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby which make for a warm walk back to our room after a swim.
The DVD library is a huge hit with my kids! They love looking through the book and picking out which movie to bring back to our room to play in the DVD player. There is a huge selection and the issue is always narrowing it down. There were many new titles added since our last visit which was a nice treat. The staff are extremely accommodating and friendly to my children. Although there were many adult only groups of guest, the resort is large enough that I didn't feel that my children were in the way of adults, and I didn't feel that adults enjoying their weekends weren't being inappropriate in front of my children - all in all a great place for everyone.
Free bus transportation is included, along with a coupon book which we used for dinner one night, and chocolate the next day! Firewood and paper/kindling is also included.
We never want to leave the property, but location is awesome! Secluded enough from downtown that we walked out of our door and were immersed in the woods for a lovely walk. We had our car so we opted to go for a couple of nearby drives, like the wildlife filled Bow Valley Parkway and hike up Johnston Canyon. But if you don't have a car, the bus stops right at the resort to take you into downtown and to meet up with ski hill shuttles etc.
We love this resort and will definitely be back!
