“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

Great stay, great staff, better hot pools than others nearby, amazing views. Dog was one happy and welcome guest with his super comfy dogbed, his own new toy, and walking area right out the front of our chalet. Lots of wildlife wandering around, even some staying in the chalet next to us who fortunately left after keeping us awake for two hours. The staff were so great that they apologized to us for the noise despite there being nothing they could do about them, and, we hadn't complained. Would definitely go back.

We brought our three children to this beautiful hotel to enjoy a spring vacation. We sadly spent the entire weekend , day and night, surrounded by drunken, loud and abrasive fellow guests. There were drunk people running around the childrens playground, being obnoxious around the pool and wandering the parking lot at all hours of the day and night. The partying lasted until 3:00 am on Saturday night keeping all of us awake. We complained to the staff and despite their efforts, the partying continued.

The Hidden Ridge Resort was rated the #7 familiy resort in Canada in 2012. Since April 30th, 2012, the Hidden Ridge has received 6 'terrible' ranked reviews, 4 of which stated that the resort is not a place for families. Among them: "Not a place for family" / "Not a family place" / "Family resort or drunkest??" / "Ruined by Drunken Idiots". I have responded to all of those previous reviews and I understand how drunken idiots can ruin the quality of someone's stay at the resort. As I have stressed in the past, we are quite conscious of the effect that a small group of people can have on the entire resort. The persons who had such a negative impact on the resort during the time of your stay were likely only 2 or 3 rooms of more than 100 that were sold on a Saturday night, specifically, on that weekend - 304 and 310. As often happens, we are unaware of our guests plans while visiting Banff and this was certainly the case during your stay. In many cases, we do not check in the entire group but only one individual. I will stress that we do not condone the behavior you encountered, nor do we try to attract this type of clientele and I regret the impact this must have had on your family. We take precautions to weed out those guests who may pose to be a hindrance towards others. You may not know that third party websites do not provide us with any personal details or contact information for our guests so we are not able to contact them prior to arrival to ensure they understand our family oriented environment. We have turned away business that will appear detrimental to our reputation and we scrutinize all questionable arrivals with group registers, noise waivers and other tools to try to force them into cooperative submission. We have protected the reputation of the resort with evictions and will continue to do so. Again, I am sorry that you had a terrible stay. I have tried to email you directly for further follow up.

We used a living social voucher we had purchased for the Hidden Ridge Resort. We went to Banff to have two days of relaxation, to get some rest and away from stress.
They gave us room 105 which is a basement unit. The hotel looked very nice. The staff was polite. The room looked nice. Our biggest issue was the noise. We could hear everything in the unit upstairs. I am mean EVERYTHING. The couple that was staying there would arrive at 2;30 in the morning (waking us up) and were up making noises for quite some time. It is so thin that we could actually hear their conversation word by word, when they went to the bathroom and everything else they did ( I will leave that to your imagination). It was horrible. Two nights of an uncomfortable stay with lack of sleep. That is the only reason we will not return. Our mistake was not advising the staff the first night. We just didn't expect this to happen two nights in a row.

I am sorry that you had a terrible stay at the Hidden Ridge. Your review is the worst we have recieved in 2013. I have emailed you directly but I would like to pass on some of the email to the Trip Advisor community:
We are not oblivious to the issues you pointed out in the one bedroom condos with regards to soundproofing. My upper management is aware that the soundproofing in those units are our biggest problem to address. We have made attempts (spray foam in the floors, better underlay on the carpet) ... but our attempts at providing better soundproofing have not been as effective as we would have hoped. Those units are perpertually busy and sold out on most nights without complaint. Our final approach, however, will eventually be demolition. As those buildings are the oldest on property (built in 1986), they will be the first to go when the date of a future renovation project is decided. I expect to have to manage guest expectations in them until such a time.

From to previous response to our future travellers:
One bedroom condos with one queen are the most economical option at the resort. Although renovated, none of them are newly built. We like them but some guests in other reviews have called them 'basements'. When available, we try to offer discounted upgrades to our loft condos to guarantee satisfaction. Since the upper lofts are larger and have three queen beds, they are understandably more expensive. The jacuzzi suites are our most luxurious options and they were built in 2009.

We were overall quite disappointed with our experience at this resort. We had a basement condo and my idea of a nice getaway at the mountains is not to look at the underside of cars in a parking lot from a bedroom window. The window does not even have a blind to allow some kind of privacy unless you want to close the curtains completely during the day. The condo was dark and seemed to lack in enough lights, especially in the bathroom where the neon light provides a deathly glow. The older units seem to be stuck in the 70s decor wise. The noise upstairs was un pleasant, the heating system very noisy during the night and the hot tub full of noisy young people with << water bottles<< . A shame because it has truly great views. Staff is extremely courteous, but the bed was hardly made and supplies not replenished in the bathroom the next day. As I say, we won't go back.

I am sorry to hear that you will not return. In the last year we have replaced the carpet and re-upholstered the dining chairs in all of our one bedroom condos with one queen (the room type you stayed in). We are currently replacing the bathroom faucets in 64 units and the drapes in 76 units. All 14 of the one bedroom condos with one queen will have new drapes and new faucets shortly to compliment the full kitchens, wood burning fireplaces, new carpet and other amemities of the resort. Hundreds of other excellent reviews can attest to the quality of the property. Why not give us another try?

This resort has very nice rooms. Fireplaces with non stop wood, fully equipped kitchens. The only downsides are that parking spots are really hard to come by, with everyone driving trucks and SUVs it can make the parking areas look like a can of sardines. It can be a bit noisy on the weekends, I think this is more so because the resort it located away from downtown so there is definitely less traffic noise but there can be some loud parties. The outdoor hot tub is beautiful and has such an amazing view.

4 of us (two adults, two teens) stayed in a loft condo for a week. Very hospitable, great customer service and loft condo is extremely comfy. Log fire really helps to create the cosy atmosphere, kitchen is basic but all that is needed and there were two bathrooms but only the downstairs bathroom had a bath/shower. Deer were right on our doorstep (literally!) almost as soon as we arrived which was extra welcoming. Our loft condo faced the peaceful, snowy Alpine forest which was very fun to explore with some beautiful scenic views looking down from the mountain.

Ski resorts and tourist attractions nearby and also right by the reception area there is a lovely outdoor hot tub where you can relax after a day out in the snow! Gorgeous view from the hot tub. Room service were very polite and friendly. Sleep in the loft condo was OK but there is a cargo night train which runs past the resort and can be heard quite easily when it honks to warn wildlife off the tracks - however, you can call reception to ask for the horn to be changed to a bugle sound (elk call) I believe? Did not try this out but sounds amusing. Condo was lovely and warm - the floor heated up which was lovely (we must have had heating on quite high)! You can order food deliveries if you don't feel like venturing out into Banff town (easily accessible by bus which arrives at Hidden Ridge every 40 mins) or elsewhere for a meal.

Overall, had a wonderful experience at the condo and if only we could afford it, I'm sure our family would return ASAP!

I just loved reading your review. I hope you enjoyed writing it as much as my staff enjoyed reading it. All guests can access the sound of an elk bugle by dialing *44 from the guest room phones. We look forward to welcoming you back to try us again!

Upon arrival we knew right away that we were in for a real treat. The resident deer named "Yan" was rifling through the dumpster in search of his next (and possibly last) meal. We were warned by the friendly staff to watch our backsides, as Yan had been known to take liberty on the guests from time to time. Our keys failed to work on the door several times, which would have been grounds for a lawsuit had Yan decided to saddle up. When we finally did gain access to our home away from home, we were somewhat shocked by the decor, but pleased with the soundproofing, as we only received one noise complaint that night.

After a big night of experiencing the best and worst of downtown Banff, we were all grateful to be battling world class hangovers by a cozy fire. All was well and good until the neighbouring suite started a 2 hour vacuuming marathon, which was reminiscent of the last time I had my brains scraped out with a dremel tool. We sought refuge at the hot tub, which provided a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains, combined with a lethal dose of chlorine and loud children. We staggered back to our room, where I vomited (violently) for the next hour. Whether it was the Eddy Burger I had eaten earlier, the overload of chlorine, or the abrupt comedown from whatever cocktail that Aussie had served us, remains a mystery.

All in all we had a wonderful time, and would definitely recommend this resort to low-lives and executives alike.
