“lovely and enchanting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

The Banff Springs Hotel is very nice despite the endless parade of tour buses that visit. Rooms were a bit dated however we did not spend much time in them so this was fine with us. Depending on what time of year that you go, try to eat outside of the Rundle lounge. Beautiful views and they had blankets for the late afternoon chill. Another must drink and eat is the Waldhaus restaurant and pub. Located behind the hotel along a path that is 1/2 way to the bow valley river which is a nice walk through a path in the woods. There is a bowling alley onsite that our kids enjoyed. I would make reservations for it though as there are only 2 lanes. This is a nice walk to town and a bit away from the hub bub of the town. However, I believe this is a difficult town/hotel to stay if you are handicap or walking issues.

Room Tip: Request a room on the East side of the building facing the Bow Valley to avoid noise.

We travelled to Banff recently for a long weekend getaway. Stayed at the BSH. Overall very nice hotel, dated somewhat but thats a part of its charm.. Pros, staff are great & accommodating. Cons, noisy, outdoor pool always packed and looks questionable and although hotel and guest photos show rooms, don't let the pictures fool you, there rooms are small. Grounds hard to rate in the winter but one can guess it would be pretty under all the snow. Overall it's a nice place to stay but will likely try it's sistert hotel in Lake Lousie next time…Note- kids are everywhere in case ones looking for quiet vacation…

Room Tip: No sure what to tell you, hotel was at capacity when we travelled. No rooms to upgrade to but I unde...

Stayed at this hotel in early December for a Christmas party. Living close to Calgary, we go to Banff a lot but I have never stayed here. The hotel itself is gorgeous. Historic/updated if that makes sense. Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Friendly staff. But the rooms are a whole new topic. I understand keeping the history and age to his hotel but those rooms were horrible. It didn't even feel clean they were so old. The wallpaper was ripped and dirty, all the doors in the room had old handles and big chunks of wood missing from them. Old marble bathroom. I don't know, I wasn't impressed whatsoever.

It's a wonderful hotel, grossly overpriced but still nice...I'd just stay at the Rimrock which is nicer and not very far away.

Late post, but not forgotten.

Visited for a week on business in September. Was lucky to bring my wife. Fantastic hotel. GREAT location and very nice rooms and staff. Restaurant experience was limited and very crowded. Except breakfast, all of our meals were in town or away from town.

Five months later we are still talking about when we’ll return.

I stayed at the Banff Springs Hotel for one night with my children and had a horrible experience. Small rooms, small shower and even though I'm a small person I had a hard time squeezing by the shower door and the wall, my kids also had a hard time. Not sure why the door doesn't open a better way. Everything is extremely over-priced for the value, parking, food, the rooms, etc.... We stayed in another hotel in Banff downtown for the rest of the week and my children had a better time and it was half the price and a lot more reasonable. Bigger room with a pool and a free full breakfast and no loud, rude people waking us up at 3am! I will never stay at the Banff Springs Hotel Again!

Room Tip: Yes, try to choose a room far from the elevator, I did not get a good night sleep with all the peopl...

Impressive huge Scottish castle looking hotel on the outskirts of Banff. It's so big it's a resort in itself with numerous restaurants, golf, shops, bowling alley, skating, curling....I could go on!
A welcome arrival in a huge impressive reception area then up to the rooms. Despite our room being a mid priced one, it was surprisingly small with a tiny bathroom which could only fit one person in. Th bedroom has tea, coffee, robes, TV but the wifi is chargable. The bed & pillows are THE most comfortable I have ever found in any hotel anywhere in the world, so much so I bought the pillows from the hotel - if I could have bought the bed I would have!
If you have ski lift passed the ski bus fares are included. To get to town there is a bus stop outside the hotel although it's only 8 dollars for a taxi.
Overall I'd say the hotel has faded charm but needs a refurb. For instance the carpets are a bit grubby & wallpaper marked, and our bath had missing enamel.
The hotel is on the expensive side but I would definitely recommend it
Throughout the hotel the service is excellent & very friendly and a joy to be in.

This is a vast hotel in the Scottish baronial style - all stone and turrets. It sits just outside Banff but it only takes 10 - 15 mins to walk into town. It has its own golf course which was frozen solid in February (down to -33oC in the mornings), but was home to a small pack of coyotes. The surrounding mountains are really awesome (in the proper sense of the word), all jagged with coloured streaks and snow. I have also been in summer and they are just as magnificent. In winter or summer a ride on the gondola to Sulphur Mountain is a must; there is a walkway from the gondola station to the summit and the views are stunning.
The hotel itself is a rabbit warren of corridors, stairs and rooms. There are several excellent restaurants on site, each of which seems to close for a couple of days a week, but they arrange this to happen on different days, so there is always at least one open for dinner.
There are outdoor and indoor pools, even in winter, and a large fitness centre. The staff are excellent and most helpful.
Rooms are fairly large and well-appointed, with good bathrooms.
There are no smoking rooms and no covered areas for smokers. There are outdoor areas for smoking, which at least have benches to sit on.
