“Gold club doesn't make sense”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We travel a lot and I enjoy having access at hotels to their club lounges, the fairmont calls it Gold level, and I expect when I am paying for a large King suite that I would have access to the gold level. This to me would make sense, larger more expense rooms have club assess. Not at the Fairmont Banff Hotel, all the standard rooms, are on the gold floor and they are the only ones that can access the gold club lounge. I even asked if I could pay more to have access. Disappointed Fairmont in you Gold policy, and you Customer Service.

Thank you for your feedback about Fairmont Gold. Our promise to guests on Fairmont Gold is that this floor is exclusively theirs, and while we do appreciate that it would be something many guests would be interested in accessing, to do so would compromise this promise and could result in overcrowding in the public areas. We are sorry for your disappointment, and do hope you will return.

We stayed here for three nights recently, and enjoyed the hotel as much as we did Banff, which means a lot. The room was good, and with a mountain view as requested. We spent some time in the hotel, and found the staff welcoming and helpful - useful when you get lost in it.

The only complaint I have, and I could say this of the other Fairmonts we visited, is the hotel charges for the bottled water in the room. Come on, bottled water costs C$1.00 a bottle, when the hotel charges hundreds of dollars a night such a cost does seem like squeezing the last dollar out of customers.

Timeless -- sure, and the renovations (minimal) helped, but this hotel is showing its age, especially the rooms. Location still can't be beat for banff and the golf course remains top- notch. Service overall is good -- especially the doormen, valets, and bellboys. Can't comment on the food nor spa as ate in the village mostly and didn't partake in the spa this time round.

Room Tip: Renovated room a must!

This was not our first time at the Fairmont Banff Springs. We booked a room on the Gold Floor, facing the Bow River. Service at the Lounge Reception (by Danai) was very warm and efficient. The lounge is very nice with a large fireplace and VIEWS! Canapés were very good, so was breakfast the next morning.
Our room had air conditioning (which was comfortable on a warm day.) This is a 'heritage' building and they have to keep a certain style but we feel a few pieces of furniture could be changed. Our bathroom was recently renovated and, although small, was very nice.
The pool, Fitness Center ... very good. We did not go to the Willow Stream Spa this time but we know it is very good.
For us, it is the place to stay while in BANFF.

Room Tip: We like a room facing Bow River.

We just finished a get away weekend at the Springs. We stayed on the Gold floor, which was worth the extra money in terms of breakfast and snacks during the day. It also allows you to avoid the line up at the regular check in. David was extremely helpful with all our questions and reservation needs.
We also managed a round on both golf courses. The Rundle 9 is very easy to walk but was not well marked. The Stanley 18 is breathtaking and I would recommend a cart. The "red" tees are extremely friendly and made me, a beginner, feel like I could keep up.
The Best part about golf was the service by CHANTAL in the clubroom. As a coop summer student she has an amazing long career in front of her. The first day she recommended the steak sandwich which was every bit as good as she said. She even made mine without the bread! We enjoyed it so much we went there the second day for the same thing. This time got a different server who was not nearly as considerate. When Chantal arrived, she noted out complaint and brought us dessert! She went out of her way to make up for the others shortcomings.
We also spent time int he SPA which is adults only. The morning was very peaceful and the afternoon got busy. My Husband had his first "scrub" and cannot wait for his next.
Another highlight was supper at the Banffshire Club. Pricey but worthwhile. Again the staff was great. I asked for wine parings and was not disappointed.
Also I would suggest the Tour of the Castle, it brought the long history of the hotel to life.
This was not the first time we have stayed at the hotel, we stay at least once every two years in the winter. But I do think this was my favorite. We have already decided on an exact repeat trip next summer.

Room Tip: Gold Floor worthwhile especially for a family

My wife and two teenage daughters stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs in early July. We are from the south, and wanted to get away from the heat. The setting of this hotel is amazing. It's set all the way through town, right next to a river. When you hear "the castle", they are not exaggerating. It is massive, and beautiful. We rented a car and when we pulled in, we were informed that tips had been included in the price. At check-in, the Fairmont Gold line was well taken care of with two hosts checking guests in. I'm not a Fairmont gold status member, so we waited in the line, where one girl was working. They have several check-in counters, but we came in on a Tuesday afternoon, and they didn't have a full staff (or it didn't look like they did). We stayed in the Stanley Thompson wing. I had read a review to not stay there, and I ignored it. My advice is to stay in the main hotel. The Room had a great view, but you had to go outside and across the street to get to the room. Be ready, because the place is expensive. The restaurants are good, but pricey. It's a nice place, but I don't think it's worth the cost.

I have stayed in The Banff Springs a few different times. I am ALWAYS impressed. I love this place. My favorite rooms are always in the Stanley Thompson wing. The suites over there are more secluded and have a fabulous treed view or mountain view. The suites are very large and come equipped with your own fireplace.
My grandaughters always receive a " princess " welcome package upon check in complete with with a tiarra.
In my opinion this hotel is the only place to stay when visiting Banff.

Room Tip: Stanley Thompson wing,A suite close to the stairs leading down to the Bow Falls.
