“Rocky Mountains...with a view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

This has got to be one of the world's great hotels at least from a location/cache perspective. It's nestled in the Rocky Mountains, in the middle of one of Canada's oldest and best loved National Parks. Celebrating it's 125th anniversary in 2013, it's truly a piece of Canadian history and the antique Canadiana vibe runs throughout the venue, especially on the exterior finish. The interior is definitely grand, although one complaint I would have are the somewhat tacky "Canadiana" tourism shops that littler the ground floor with a variety of wood carved elk, over-sized dream catchers and mom-friendly sun hats. On another note, as I was there in June for the Banff World Media Festival, having a functional Internet connection would be nice, especially since it was an additional $15 a day charge for a basically non-functional in-room WiFi connection. However, for pure tourism, this is an amazing venue for the well-heeled nature lover. For example, one night we walked into town along the Bow River trail, which included an amazing view of the Bow Falls. Not the kind of thing you see on your way to a business dinner in the big city that's for sure!

Thank you for your review and we are pleased you loved the destination. We are pleased to advise that we are undergoing a project with Telus now to install new fibre optic cable which will greatly enhance our internet onsite. This will be completed in August and we hope to see you again.

I stayed at this hotel with my best friend who was visiting from the Netherlands. From the moment we pulled up to the front door, she couldn't believe that we were staying at such a beautiful hotel. The valet staff were very helpful in unloading our car, and giving us instructions on how and where to check in. Once we checked in, we parked our car in the parkade (which costs $25 a day. quite expensive to just park your car), we made our way through the building to find our room. We ended up in a room with a king size bed and a view looking out towards the front of the builidng. The room was kinda small but big enough for my friend and I. The bathroom was very nice and the whole room was very clean. We walked into the main part of town to have a bite to eat, then walked back to the hotel for the evening. The walk took us maybe 20 min.
.
Late at night around 10pm, since the hotel was quiet and my friend and I were bored, we decided to walk around the hotel to check it out as neither of us had been there before. The hotel is very beautiful with lots of rooms and floors to explore. One hallway is kinda spooky in day and night as I felt like the door entrances to the rooms are in the shape almost of coffins. Another room that is kinda spooky is the ballroom. There is a statue of a guy in armour and at night the room is very darkly light. Perfect for ghost hunting! I told my friend that if that statue moved in any way, we were getting the hell out of that room! As we were wandering around, we met up with two guys who we started talking to and they told us that they were on the hunt for ghosts. I never researched the hotel ahead of time so they told us about the ghost stories they had heard. We ended up tagging along with them as we went looking for a specific room. Eventually after looking for a while, we couldn't find it. An employee who worked in the hotel did show us around a little and told us stories she had heard. We also ran into another couple who was also on a ghost hunt!

In the morning, my friend and I got up early to check out the pool area. We did not experience any of the spa so this is only on the pool available for guest use. Inside there is a large olympic size pool, along with a hot tub with a small grotto. Just outside the glass doors, there is a warm salt water pool outside. It's gorgeous to be in the pool just floating around with the steam coming off the pool and the mountain views.

All in all, the hotel is absolutely gorgeous, clean, and although it might be a little expensive, I would definitely stay here again.

We spent five nights here as part of a meeting group. We had a corner room that faced the mountains. The hotel is lovely and was celebrating its' 125th year while we were there. We used the $35 valet parking which was worth every penny, and they do NOT accept tips- part of the fee. When will that happen in the US? It is close enough to town to walk yet removed enough to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. All staff were so friendly with the exception of one housekeeper. Loved the room, the bath amenities, 24 hour pantry/cafe and the bars. The pantry was great for Starbucks coffee and breakfast. My only very minor problems are that there is no covered patio anywhere so when it was lightly raining, I had to read indoors rather than on the patio. A retractable awning would have been great somewhere. Also there is no pool bar and no way to bring in a drink from another bar. The outdoor pool is heated and has spectacular views; a cold beer or a cocktail would have been great. As with all properties like this, the food is expensive. The Waldhaus pub food was awful, but the Rundle lounge and golf clubhouse were fine. If you can get a good rate, I would highly recommend this property. There were lots of tour groups staying here in addition to the meeting group so it seemed quite full at times. Yet it never seemed crowded. Would be ideal for 3 nights- 5 seemed a bit long. Go on the horseback ride (3 hour if you can get it), the float trip and play a round of golf. Easy drive to Bow Valley parkway, Morraine Lake and other sights in Banff. Go early to ride the gondola;otherwise it is quite crowded. It is a 5 minute drive from the hotel. This is a truly lovely hotel. Also join the Fairmont president's club before you go for free wifi in the room.

me and my beloved partner stayed here last november, and it was our first visit to canada. We travel quite frequently, and like to think of ourselves as discerning travellers, and were a little concerned with being a 'legendary' historic hotel that we may be disappointed, but we had the best service, accommodation standard and food ever.
We were unexpectedly upgraded to the deluxe mountain view room, and we checked in late at night in dark, so when waking at around 6.30 next morning, were stunned at the view to the rocky mountains over the bow river from our window, after an incredible night's sleep. In fact, the beds were so incredibly comfortable and large we struggled to get up each morning. The service was impeccable, every staff member down to housekeeping was friendly, warm, and nothing seemed too much trouble for any of them. Chad the concierge was particularly helpful and made suggestions to our activities. The outdoor pool was a wonderful experience, worth braving the five seconds or so of frozen terror when opening the door to the steps in just swimwear, once you're in the pool heated up to 100 degrees fahrenheit, you just relax and take in the gorgeous snow-capped scenery.
The food in every venue is beautiful, we have stayed in other expensive resorts where the a meal cost nearly a week's rental and been disappointed, but not so here.
There are times when the lobby area can be busy with busloads of new guests or tourists coming for one of the heritage tours, but it's easy to escape that bustle, and the hotel is convenient for downtown banff. Overall, worth every penny, and every hotel we stay at from now on we will measure to the banff springs' high standards.

We stayed for 2 nights in June and had an enjoyable stay. Our checkin was seamless & friendly being warmly greeted by the valet parking attendant (well worth the extra $10). We booked a 'fairmount gold deluxe' level room, the gold level is situated on 5th floor, it would have been nicer to have the benefits of higher level view room. The room was OK with a mountain view (overlooked a roof top) but small bathroom, no fridge in room. The inclusive breakfast buffet had a good selection and guests on this level have complimentary soft drinks. We ate in 2 restaurants and on both occasions had good service & food.
The hotel was very busy with a large conference & day visitors.

Thought the view was fantastic at Fairmont Lake Louise but the view over Bow river and the golf course is sensational. Room was great, service excellent, location 15min walk from town, walking trails very accessible and easy. Why stay anywhere else. This is a wonderful and historic building with 5 star rating.

Travel took place in the last WE of May, 2013

Pros:
1. Great views
2. Good food, not plastic food
3. Pool is very nice and clean

Cons:
1. Extremely dusty,
My hepa filter air purifier was basically blocked with huge amount of dust after just 6 hrs. Carpets everywhere, dusty place. Carpets smell w/ some sort of chemical. The usual vacum cleners just get rid of big particles and break the small ones to even smaller and return them back to the air.

2. Internet not included
People we are in 21st century, this something that must be included

3. Parking is 24-35 $ per night
You cannot be serious, why parking is so expensive, why it is not included. Either you are trying to drop, otherwise already high prices for the rooms, by not including parking+ i-net, or there is some sort of conspirology and you are trying to get rid of mid-middle class and orieent yourself on rich people , exclusively????

4. Service is not really bad, but we ordered a couple of extra towels-they never came to our room.

Will I come agin to this place:
NO

Will I recommend it:
No way

Room Tip: If you cannot tolerate dust, unreasonable charges for i-net and parking, forget about this place, th...
