“Glorious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

My husband and I splurged on a trip while visiting Banff with friends. We decided to stay at The Fairmont Banff Springs for one night, away from the time-share. It was glorious. We had a view of the elk out on the golf course, and the attention to detail in the room was very much appreciated (they even thought to leave binoculars by the window facing the golf course.) Highly recommend the 7th floor - we were lucky to have a room on this floor in celebration of our anniversary. Ther German restuarant attached to the hotel was excellent and memorable (in a good way!) as well.

Honestly, this place only earns an "average" in our books, because of its history. The accommodation was far from what we have come to expect.

The room was super tiny, probably smaller than 200 sq.ft., with one queen bed, but basically no seating area but a bench at the edge of the bed and a small chair crammed into a corner by a tiny desk.

We had to walk forever to get to our room, as the place is huge! We ran into a number of people who were constantly lost because of their poor navigation skills.

We went to the Ramsey Lounge to enjoy a couple of drinks the first night, and were very disappointed! Although, very polite, and professional, service was slow, and it took nearly 20 min to get three beers. There were like six more people around, and we did not order mixed drinks, so this should habe never taken so long.

There was limited to no cell-phone connection in the room! At times, it was necessary to walk down one floor, then go all the way to the end of the hallway to get a signal! We almost thought they did this on purpose, so that guests have no choice, but to pay for their 24 hour internet connection, which costs $13.95. But don't worry... They do accept Paypal for that!

We have come to the conclusion that we will not be staying here again.

There are newer places in town that are cheaper, have free wi-fi, and better service.

Suggestion: Stay elsewhere, but do take photos of this majestic building when you are in the area.

What can i say, this hotel is both beautiful and legendary. It's history as old as Canada herself. I have stayed here many times, and am never disappointed. The lobby is massive with huge fireplace, and i mean huge. Slate and granite walls make for a beautiful first impression. The hallways and lifts are older, as the hotel is 100+ years old. The rooms are nice, but they vary in size greatly. Always a bit of an issue if you do not ask what you are getting exactly. From tiny to massive. A huge difference. More traditional than modern i would say. But, certainly still a comfortable and beautiful stay. The spa is simply amazing. amazing. World class. as are the high end restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: This is very important if room size is of value. You have to ask at front desk what room is and how...

We stayed for two nights just after Christmas and although the rooms are very expensive, I would do it again in a second. We took a cool historic hotel tour, did some curling on the outdoor rink (free), rented snowshoes and went out over the golf course, did some neon bowling, saw several deer, and had great meals at the hotel restaurants (the best being the Walhaus Pub). All this right on the hotel grounds! There was so much to do we could have easily stayed longer (if we didn't run out of money!). It really is a great experience to stay in a "castle" in the Rockies - gorgeous! The town is also a quick drive down the hill if you want more dining/shopping/photo options.

Room Tip: We had two different rooms that were both modern and pretty, but the pricier one had a great mountai...

Amazing stay at the Banff Springs Hotel. Loved wandering around the castle. Make sure you enjoy a glass of wine in the wine cave! The room was very comfortable. I only wished the fireplace was real!! Service was excellent.

We spent Christmas at the Banff Springs Hotel. The hotel looks stunning against a backdrop of show covered mountains. When we arrived the hotel was extremely busy and it took a while to check in. Occassionally we felt that the service suffered a little because things were so busy and there did not appear to be enough staff on board. The christmas activites were well organised. We were a little suprised that when we tried to make some dinner reservations we were told that some restaurants were booked out and yet the next day we met people who said that they just walked into the same restaurant without a reservation.
We had Christmas night dinner in the ballroom. The ballroom was magnificently decorated for the occasion. While dinner was nice enough, it seemed a little rushed at times and the various courses were not explained as they were served. Again it appeared that there were not sufficient staff to do this. It was a Christmas to remember.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 0156. There was a separate bedroom, bathroom, luggage room and a large lounge roo...

We had the most amazing White Christmas. Everything was fantastic! From the front desk staff on check in until check out they could not have been more helpful. We enjoyed the Christmas festivities. The most amazing thing was swimming in the outside heated pool in -25! We enjoyed the food however it was expensive. We really enjoyed the Randall Lounge for a cocktail and snack and loved the live music. We will always our Christmas in the Castle!!!
