“Outstanding Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is hotel is the best!!! My wife and I spent our honeymoon here 10 years ago and we returned for our 10th Anniversary. The hotel and staff made our stay the most memorable, even better than our Honeymoon!! This castle is immense and we have still to explore the full hotel but look forward to returning to continue our exploration of this grand hotel

First of all, the elevators broke again. The staff did not care that my guests including a 92 year old woman had to walk up several flights of stairs. They saw she had to walk up and made no effort whatsoever to accommodate her.

Next, the staff in general are not very helpful. It's just not what you expect when you stay at a hotel such as this. I had to go to three people to get guest services to hold my bags.

That's pretty much what's worth noting, but really, the place is not competitive. I would not go back.

Room Tip: Higher the better

The service at the Banff Springs was excellent. The Hotel is beautiful and worth paying a little extra to stay there. It has one of the best Spa's as well. The hotel has great food and the Sunday morning Brunch is worth the price.

Room Tip: Ask to have a view of the valley

Great hotel. We stayed here for a work event and it was amazing. The service and food is out of this world. We were luck enough to get a suite which was huge and nice. Some of our friends got a regular room which was a bit small. But seeing that this hotel was built at the time of the century everything is amazing. Definetly a place to try if you are visiting banff for the first time.

LOVED this hotel. The entire hotel was very clean and well-maintained. Our room was very comfortable and we had a fabulous view. We were there in August of 2012. The mornings were cool, but the afternoons were perfect. They have car rental on site, and also many other touring options. The only downside is that the food was a bit expensive. But it is an easy walk or cheap cab fair into Banff for cheaper options.

Room Tip: I can't imagine there being any bad rooms in this hotel.

Thank you for your Trip Advisor review. It will be especially motivating for our housekeeping and engineering teams to read as they work very hard in the areas of cleanliness and maintenance so thank you very much for your compliments.

I have stayed at the Banff Springs many times (this is my first review). There is not doubt that the building is beautiful and the Canadian Rockies spectacular. Worth a visit and I know I will return. The Spa, as always, is first class.

However the inside of the building is looking very tired. I stayed on the Gold Floor, which was better than the rest of the building, but everything needs to painted, changed etc.

The quality of the staff was also average. Everyone was nice, but not at a very professional level, even the professional appearance of staff was lacking. The breakfast on the Gold floor was ok, but I could have used more choice.

If I were staying in Banff, I am not sure there is somewhere better or more interesting to stay, but currently the Springs has lots of work to do if it wants to be five star.

My husband and I just returned from attending a conference at the Fairmont in Banff and spent two nights in a Gold room on the 5th floor.
The Room: king size bed was comfortable and the choice of pillows on the pillow-menu had lots of variety. Room did get a bit too warm at night but we cracked a window and it was fine, plus we enjoyed the crisp mountain air. The bathroom in our room(518) was incredibly small, with only a shower and no bathtub. Although it looked like the bathroom had been updated, I feel they should have added a few more inches of counter space for a place for ladies to set their cosmetic bags, curling irons and other beauty paraphernalia.

The Gold floor lounge: is a peaceful retreat with a cozy fireplace and stunning mountain views. During the day and early evening refreshments, coffee, tea and cappuccino are available on a self serve basis. Continental breakfast and happy hour hors d'oevres were also provided on Saturday and Sunday.

The hotel: the Banff Springs makes you feel like you have stepped back a century in time. The staff are attentive, friendly and extremely professional and every corner of the hotel is decorated with the ambience of and old Scottish castle.

We were with a large group - I believe our group occupied every room and banquet hall in the hotel - yet the staff seemed to handle the large number of guests ( approx 1800) with ease.

I only have one real complaint and that is the extremely poor cell phone reception and Internet wifi in the rooms and in the Van Horne conference centre. The wifi in the room was hit and miss all weekend, and in the conference centre and in various areas of the hotel myself and several other guests found we had to stand outside to get cell phone coverage.

I imagine most people come to Banff to enjoy the beauty and peace of the mountains though, so perhaps not having good cell phone reception or wifi is not a huge concern.

Overall the Fairmont Banff Springs is a unique hotel..the gem of the Rockies!
