We booked three chalets here for our family vacation and we would have been better of sleeping in our vehicles. The rooms were dirty when we checked in, Old towls still in the bathroom, stains on the walls and old food in the fridge. this occured in each room. The rooms were old, stinky and falling apart. My handle was coming off the oven. There is no A/c in the rooms and they are very hot. It would be nice if you could leave the patio door open to cool it down but there are no screens. So you have to choose all the bugs or the cool air. The staff were not friendly, and the management worse (except for the housekeeping manager). The pool is very small (a bit bigger than a hot tub) and there 2nd hot tub needs some chemical balancing. The only way we would be back is if they tore the place down and rebuilt with new management. If you want to enjoy your stay may I suggest The Douglas Fir acroos the street.

Pros: Location, views, full kitchen, customer service, steam room/hot tub/pool

Cons: Lack of ceiling fans in all bedrooms/living areas, some cleanliness issues re floors

I'll start by saying we would stay here again if we could select our room and got another good deal. My husband had stayed here before in a loft suite in the 4-plex unit, and recommended the resort for this visit. When we got here, we were given room 167, view of Rundle Mountain (and the road), the road noise was not at all excessive, as this is Tunnel Mountain Road, not a main thoroughfare.

Anyway, this room had a nice view, but the layout was odd. It opened into the bedroom, then the kitchen/bathroom, then the living area. No door to the bedroom, so this would have made it difficult for our son to be sleeping, while we stayed up to socialize in the evenings. Not a deal breaker, just a curiosity about the design, but if we had not had other issues with the room and had stayed, this probably would have been a big problem and would have hindered our enjoyment of our trip. However, we did have other issues. There were shards of glass on the floor, and the floor was sticky in quite a few areas. I ended up getting onto the floor with a dishcloth and cleaned the tile floor, finding more glass, a wine cork, and loads of crumbs. This floor had not seen a sweeping nor a washing between guests! Continued to find small pieces of glass on the carpeted areas, and as the room was still hot (after having the patio door open for some time) and my husband pointing out the smoke alarm hanging by its wires, we decided this was already affecting our get-away weekend, and we were not happy.

When I called the front desk, customer service was wonderful. They took down the info on the deficiencies of the room and sent someone to us immediately to show us the two other rooms available. The lady that came advised us that all the rooms in that unit are hot, that this is a common complaint, because the sauna/steam room/hot tub are in the basement. I'm sure this is great for winter, but horrible for summer. She showed us room, 151 in the 4-plex unit, which was cooler and much cleaner (tile and laminate floors) and a much better design with an actual separate bedroom with a door! That very helpful lady (cannot remember her name, started with a B) helped us transfer all of our luggage, food, etc to the new unit.

The unit did not have a fenced balcony, but instead an open patio. At first I admit I thought this was going to be a problem as we were traveling with our 14-month-old son, but it was a great; open view to the woodlands and mountains peaking through the trees, wildlife, and ended up being a great experience. We could not sit out there with our son, but we were out hiking all day, so were content to sit on the sofa to enjoy the view.

Even this room though had some issues that the management need to address with the cleaning staff. Sweeping, vacuuming, and washing floors should be mandatory. Crumbs, debris, ant corpses, etc collect at the window panes, at the baseboards, under tables/sofas. If they would take a vacuum hose and run it along the baseboards, wash between fridge/counter, etc, then everything would be cleaned up. The back of the bathroom door had not seen a wiping in some time. I took one of their white facecloths and wiped it down to get the collected dust off, and it was black! Now, to be fair, I actually find this to be true of many hotels, I guess they don't close the door when they clean, so they never think of it, but it can sure build up if neglected. I found the rest of the unit clean, and certainly found this unit quite comfortable for our stay, nothing that detracted from our weekend.

Kitchen dishes/supplies were generally sufficient for a four-person stay, but they could use one more frypan (only had one) and at least one bowl for popcorn. It was great being able to make our own meals and have the gorgeous view, we even had deer walk past our patio while making dinner on our second night! Our son was pressed up to the glass for that one!

I noted in their information book in the room, that fans area available on request from the front desk. A suggestion I would make to the resort; ceiling fans in all bedrooms and living areas. In the room we first had in the Rundle view Complex, a ceiling fan in the bedroom may help to make the temperature more comfortable. I cannot speak re the other units re if they have fans, but our unit did not, and although we were comfortable in our unit, in peek summer, all units should have ceiling fans or the heat could get quite oppressive.

Previous reviewer mentioned t.v. reception. Yes, some channels were not perfect reception, but it did not bother us at all, had a great full cable selection on the flat-panel t.v. and a great view out the window. That reviewer also mentioned issues with the cleanliness of the floors, so hopefully the resort will look into this.

Only used the pool and hot tub in the lobby building, but this was clean and looked well maintained. Small, but completely perfect for our needs, soaking in the tub and playing with our son. Locker rooms/showers available as well.

Hope this helps other travelers in choosing their accommodations. I always use TripAdvisor for our vacation planning and really appreciate all the great reviews and advice!

The service was typically good. We were there 4 times in 2 months when we were told we could not use our coupon and get another coupon for our next stay. We are in banff at least once a month if not more. There are other hotels at which we can get deals at and in saying this we choose tunnel mountain resort because we like the suites we stay in.

The last three times we checked out we had mentioned a few things that needed to be looked at. For instance at the end of April we were upgraded to a loft which was wonderful, exciting and greatful but our TV's in the room were all fuzzy we only got one channel that was good. Our next stay 2 weeks later our ex. suite the bathroom floor had dried vomit on it, we did not notice this till the second night, and also a ski sticker was found on the floor by the night table that was dated Feb. of 2011. The last time we checked in and found a quarter under neath the luggage rack and was very visible. We are now wondering if a proper vacuuming and washing of the floors is being completed.

Now we mentioned these points to the front desk, did not complain and came back also because we were able to use our coupons and greatful for this.

I hemmed and hawed about whether to book a "loft suite" or a "chalet suite," as I didn't know the layout of the property, and was worried about what other reviewers had said about the thin walls separating the chalet suites. I had one of the most laid-back travelling companions in the world, who declared himself happy with whatever I decided, though he did note that the "loft suite" sounded nicer for our purposes, as it offers a king-sized bed in its loft space rather than the two double beds offered in the lofts of the chalet suites. I booked the "loft suite," and we discovered he was absolutely right: the loft suite with its king-sized bed really made the place.

It's true, as other reviewers have noted, that you tumble into the downstairs bedroom when you open the front door, but it's a perfectly fine space when the front door is closed, and the loft bedroom is lovely and spacious, with a view of Rundle mountain. (See photo from suite 261.)

I suppose if you're travelling with the kind of person who's going to fight with you over who gets which bedroom, the fact that the loft space is so much lovelier than the downstairs room, could be an issue. Very few of us are self-sacrificing types, after all! But the loft suites are a really great option for friends travelling together who want completely separate sleeping-spaces. It's an especially great set-up -- in our hetero-normative world! -- for friends of the opposite sex who are not lovers, as both bedroom spaces are perfectly private once you're both snugged in behind the closed front door.

Tunnel Mountain definitely met my cleanliness requirements, and I especially liked that the downstairs bathroom is spacious, with a deep tub, and nice big sparkling-clean white tiles on the walls.

One of the small pleasures of the suite: getting to have a real woodfire in the small living-room.

The only thing that irked me: for whatever strange reason, the stairs leading up to the loft space have a very cruel metal trim on each step -- the kind of thing you find on exterior stairs to keep cheap linoleum from curling up. Translation: be sure to bring slippers if you're going to be the traveller who secures the loft! Then both of you can be snug bugs in a rug without either one of you doing any hurt to your tender soles.

One last thought. The pleasures of the loft suite aside, my guess is that in peak season, you're probably better off in a chalet suite, for this reason: the chalet suites are tucked in closer to Rundle mountain, and are therefore further from the road. No matter what you choose at this cozy joint, you're going to have to deal with noise from the parking lot, which runs the length of the property, down the middle. But at least if you choose the chalet suites or mountain cabins you'll be backing onto the rear of the property, and forest, rather than onto the road.

Oh, and you had might as well treat the three long honks from the train that passes through Banff at about 7 in the morning as part of the place's charm. The honks resonating off the surrounding mountains are certainly more effective than most alarms!

We were travelling with some family and were able to get chalets with the doors facing each other so the kids could go back and forth easily . We slept well( nice beds) and the loft was great to let the kids play or watch movies and the adults could still visit or watch TV without feeling like we were all crowded together . The living room floor was all tile and sometimes cool on the feet (glad I brought slippers). Staff was friendly and answered any questions we had . Deer and squirrels at your balcony ! Pool and hot tub are a bit small but served their purpose we had fun and were able to relax.

Room Tip: Ask for chalet with 2nd BR and ground level door!

Stayed here on recommendation of some friends who have been coming here for years, and now I understand why! Our family stayed in the mountain cabin, which fit all 7 of us quite comfortably. Lovely location overlooking Banff -we had deer right outside of our window, (amused all of us, even the oldies) and a great view of the surrounding mountains! There was a flat screen tv, a full kitchen so we could have family dinner every night, and a wonderful wood fireplace. They even delivered the wood for us and helped us start it after we had some trouble (thanks Salvador for all your help!). The front desk staff were extremely friendly, (thanks girls!) and seemed genuinely happy in helping us out with information about the ski hills or when we did want to go out for a bite to eat. All in all, a fantastic stay and we'll definitely be coming back for a relaxing holiday in the mountains!
