“Excellent View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

We arrived on a Friday for a weekend stay. We were greeted warmly by the staff and check in was quick and easy. Our Bed and Breakfast package included self parking and we had no problem finding a spot when we arrived around 4:00. A beautiful hotel with spectacular views. The Premium Guest room was warm and inviting with plenty of space. The bathroom could stand a good cleaning and was a bit outdated but the King size bed was very comfortable. We left the hotel for dinner out and returned about 10:00 to what was surely the last parking spot. We ran into the same problem the next evening with no spots available and were provided valet parking free of charge. Breakfast was included with our package and the another spectacular view from the Primrose Room. We chose the Breakfast Buffet which had plenty of items for a hearty breakfast. Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to try any of the other restaurants but was we saw looked very good. We will be back to try the 5 Diamond Eden Room!

Our stay was amazing! The view was breath taking, the food was fabulous, and the service impeccable. I had the pleasure of spending some time in the spa and had a very relaxing massage. I really loved the quality of products they used. Thank you to Katrina for her superior customer service. The Diva lounge was so fun. Our bar tender Briar created a great atmosphere. Most important thank you to Scott our concierge for going above and beyond putting me on every guest list in town and getting our dinner reservations more than once. You really contributed to a great 30 th birthday .

I took my husband here for a surprise birthday weekend and we were both very disappointed with the hotel. The rooms are okay but could use a refresh. Bed linens were lovely, amenities were nice. The bathrooms were very dated and the chairs at the window had lost support years ago. Don't even bother with the coffee - the decaf didn't even brew properly in the machine so I bought several cups at the convenience store. for $3 each you expect good coffee. More weak brews at the cafe. The pastries, however, were lovely.

Ours was a king room with an upgraded view of the mountains. For the additional charge we had to stand right in the apex of the window to see the mountains. From most vantage points all we saw the back side of the hotel.

From check in on, we had a problem with inconsistent service. We booked valet parking but never received a valet ticket and our vehicle sat for hours. When we noticed it and talked to the valet they were not aware and told us we should have informed them. We had asked the front desk and they had told us everything was taken care of. Lack of communication is a problem.

Internet was not working when we came. I asked the concierge and he basically told me I must not be doing it right. Hours later when I called I was told it was being fixed. Another small communication error.

We booked an additional night at check in but received our bill after the first night. When we phoned to notify staff the said all was fine and we were booked for two. However our room keys were re-keyed, promoting another visit to the front desk to clear it up. Minor irritant but by then they were piling up.

Most disappointing of all was the service. We went to the Eden and Larkspur on our first day and sat for a long time between servers stopping by our table. It was not busy and there was plenty of staff, but with one exception most were happier to congregate with each other and had to be reminded by managers to look after tables. We often waited 15-30 minutes with empty glasses. And to be clear we were ordering premium drinks, so we weren't just "sitters". We eventually moved to seats at the bar to get service and this rectified things. Sometimes service was fine and other times it was brutally slow. Very inconsistent.

At dinner (Primrose) things started out better, but after dinner we sat with dirty plates for over 15 mins, then waited for more than a half hour after indicating we were done to even get a bill. Again, it wasn't busy - we were one of several tables remaining at a later (7:30) sitting and our waiter was setting up for the next day. Still, how long does it take to drop off a bill? We had ordered from a fixed 3 course menu and it was still over 2 hours to have our meal. Some meal items were excellent, others were awful. Again, inconsistent.

Overall we were both very disappointed with our experience for our money and will not be returning. For a hotel striving to be a certain class it misses the mark in large part due to inconsistent or inattentive service. Management needs to take a closer look at this. Next time I will pay a few more dollars and book the Banff Springs

My family and I travelled to Banff for a birthday weekend. The Rimrock is a beautiful hotel and our stay was okay. The hotel is very close to the the Banff Gondola and the Upper Banff Hot Springs. This is convenient for those who want to use those attractions.

We arrived in the late afternoon and parking was easy as they have their own parking garage. Check in was smooth and front desk staff polite.

Our room had two queen beds and faced the valley. The decor is okay if you like Ikea style furniture. Carpets are old and industrial looking, dirty and need to be updated. Our fridge was not a fridge as we put drinks in it and they froze. Not a nice surprise when you go to pour a glass of iced tea and it's frozen solid.

My husband ordered chocolate covered strawberries which was a nice surprise. However, he ordered 6 but 2 were missing the first night. The second night there were 6 and I found that odd. I believe they corrected the price difference at check-out for us.

The beds were very hard. I asked the front desk if housekeeping had any toppers they could put on it to make it softer. The woman at the counter said she'd never had that question before. Not great customer service and I asked her to ask housekeeping. A nice gentleman showed up with puffy mattress pads but wasn't sure how to put them on the bed. He was happy to put them on the mattress when I told him it goes under the bottom sheets.

On our second night we had chain smokers below our room. This hotel is suppose to be non-smoking but apparently we were told by the front desk, they cannot do anything about people smoking on balconies. Since i am allergic to smoke and it travelled into our room, I did not have a good night. More needs to be done to protect people from second hand smoke. This is such a shame for a higher quality hotel.

The best part of the hotel was the pool area. We used it a couple times. There is a large pool to swim in and another larger pool like a hot tub which is extremely hot. The change area was nice and you can get a locker key from the spa staff. We loved the steam sauna but wished we could have had the aromatherapy for a second day. We must have lucked out on the first day. The men's and women's change rooms are separate as is the saunas. We never went to the hot springs even though it was close just because of how nice the hotels pools were.

I've always wanted to stay at the Rimrock. Now that I have I will definitely be looking at other hotels in Banff. They are closer to shops & restaurants and a better value for your money.

Room Tip: Asking for a room on a higher floor might ensure you don't get second hand smoke filtering into...

The Rimrock is located 7km out of Banff town centre, on the doorstep of the Banff Hotsprings. The hotel is built on the side of a mountain and most, if not all rooms have breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. We stayed there in the 80s, when it was a much smaller facility struggling to make ends meet. Boy has it come a long way. Service is top-notch and the whole building is in excellent shape. Rooms are spacious, quiet and well-appointed. The Resort includes several restaurants and bars, including a "Five-Diamond" restaurant, the Eden Lounge. We were there with our adult children and our grandson and everyone was very helpful and friendly.

Free vouchers are provided so that guests can use the frequent bus service to downtown. Self-parking is $16/day and off-season corporate group room rates are about $160/night.

Room Tip: There are some large corner suites with balconies that seem to be right in the mountains. Probably c...

My husband & I enjoyed two nights at the Rimrock. The resort is nestled in the Rocky Mountains, 750 feet above the town of Banff, so you are away from the hustle & bustle. You can also walk to the Banff Hot Springs & gondola from here.

We booked a Premium room with a king size bed & it had spectacular views of the mountains & grounds surrounding the resort. We were on the 8th floor & didn't hear a sound from any other guests. Our room was clean, spacious & comfortable. It included complimentary wifi, a mini fridge to keep our drinks cold, an electronic safe to store valuables & had 2 large chairs to enjoy the views while we sipped our wine & liquors.

The resort offers a free transportation to & from Banff every 30 minutes with various drop off & pick up locations in the townsite. You will receive electronic cards to swipe on the bus & will be given a schedule of times. Using this service allowed us to park our vehicle in the underground parkade ($16.00 per night) & leave it there until we left.

We enjoyed our couples massage at the spa & took advantage of the pool & jacuzzi as well. There is also a fitness centre but we chose to enjoy the many hiking trails around the resort for our exercise.

There are several dining options at the resort, as well as the Rimrock Café, which is open from 6:30 am - 10 pm daily. We picked up speciality chocolate treats & enjoyed delicious coffee from there in our room. Attached to the café is a small gift shop & they sell any necessities you may need.

While we chose to dine off the property, we did enjoy lunch at the Larkspur one day. Knowing the portions would be large, we shared the Bison burger with fries & a Caesar salad. The speciality coffees were delicious & the view from our table was amazing. They have live entertainment in the evenings & a huge roaring fire.

The staff were friendly, helpful & professional. This was our second stay here & when we choose to come to Banff again we will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view!

We recently spent two nights at the Rimrock and the foyer and lounges were beautiful, in that antiquated Canadian aesthetic—but fortunately not as run-down or passé as Fairmont’s Banff Springs Hotel or Jasper Park Lodge. Staff were friendly, it was a short walk to the gondola and the Banff Upper Hot Springs are literally out the front door. Banff’s public transit has a bus service that comes by regularly, which was great since we liked to enjoy drinks with our meals while in town. The concierge was helpful in his recommendations. The only criticism I would have is that the aesthetic is dated, but that might be comfortable for families and tourists.
