“Beautiful interiors and”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

We recently spent two nights at the Rimrock and the foyer and lounges were beautiful, in that antiquated Canadian aesthetic—but fortunately not as run-down or passé as Fairmont’s Banff Springs Hotel or Jasper Park Lodge. Staff were friendly, it was a short walk to the gondola and the Banff Upper Hot Springs are literally out the front door. Banff’s public transit has a bus service that comes by regularly, which was great since we liked to enjoy drinks with our meals while in town. The concierge was helpful in his recommendations. The only criticism I would have is that the aesthetic is dated, but that might be comfortable for families and tourists.

We stayed at the Rimrock for three nights (Friday, Sat. and Sunday) in September and I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. Our check-in was quick, professional and friendly. You may select valet parking or opt to self-park in the lot connected to the resort, both for a fee. As our room was not ready the concierge stored our luggage. The hotel issues complimentary passes to a bus that comes into the resort to take passengers to downtown Banff. We took advantage of the bus and recommend this to other travellers as it saves the headache of searching for parking during peak tourist times.
The concierge noticed that one of our bags held a bottle of wine. He inquired if it was white or red – when we checked into our room two red wine glasses were sent up to our room – this is definitely five star service! Our room overlooked the mountains and the view was spectacular! It was such a delight to open one’s eyes in the morning to the imposing sight of the Rocky Mountains. The Larkspur Lounge is a great place to have a dinner drink with a great view of the mountains.
If you are visiting on a weekend, I would suggest that if you want to use their spa (which I did, but could not get an appointment) that you book the treatment when you book your rooms. The spa is very popular and books up quickly. I would also suggest that you pre-book a table at one of their in-house restaurants as they also fill quickly. The golfing is also very popular and we were also unable to get a tee time, consequently, this activity should be pre-booked. We were able to dine at the Primrose on Sunday evening and the food was amazing, and the service attentive.
The hot springs and the gondola ride are easy walking distance. The hot springs were packed but the gondola ride was less crowded and very enjoyable.
In conclusion, we found without exception the staff to be very friendly and very helpful; the rooms were clean and the bed very comfortable. However, the view from our room was breathtaking! We intend to return next year!

This was a premium room with 2 queens on floor 5.

The room was very cold and no matter what we set the thermostat for it would not heat up (heat mode is on)

Tv was not plugged in and was impossible to do so as the shelving it was on is too heavy to move.

This is not worth the money at all. The condition of the room is very old and worn down.

We ate at the primrose restaurant for dinner and the scallops were not even real! Very very dissapointed

We have always loved coming to this hotel (come from Calgary twice a year, and at least a dozen times between us) but after receiving poor service at check twice in a row we will be taking our business into town to the Delta from now on. The Rimrock should train their reservation and front desk staff better. Twice now they have promised us free parking and both times the front desk staff have refused. The $15-$16 is not really the point, they should train the staff to not make promises that they won't deliver on. We have even phoned in ahead of time to confim (with staff names) only to be refused at check in. Last time the check in girl even read aloud a note on the rez saying "don't give this guy free parking". Insulting to us. Customer service should be the name of the game especially in a tourist town and especially with your regular guests who live nearby, come often and have (in the past now) reccommended to others to come for a quick getaway.

Thank you for taking the opportunity to post your review after your recent stay. It is unfortunate to hear that you were misinformed in regards to parking at the hotel. We are pleased to offer a selection of packages and promotions that may include parking. Standard Rate of the Day is accompanied by the standard parking fee of $16/per night for self parking and $30/per night for valet.
I would be pleased to speak with you further if you wish, please contact the hotel.

Thank you

Our family has enjoyed the Rimrock on many occasions. This is a gorgeous hotel, in the amazing Canadian Rockies, with a staff that makes you feel at home. This past weekend we made a spur-of-the-moment trip to Banff for 2 days. Our three kids loved the pool and hiking the trails around the hotel. My wife and I enjoyed another dining adventure at Eden. Whether you are coming with your family or for a romantic getaway Rimrock and Eden are a perfect choice.

We stayed two nights in this hotel.fantastic renovated room and super friendly staff.it is not a walking distance to town so we expected a lot more from amenities as we intended to spend most of our time inside.no children pool and bad food and service at primrose restaurant were real disappointments.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review after your recent stay with us. It is unfortunate to read that our amenities were not as expected, and that you were not able to take advantage of our surrounding partners. We are pleased to offer a complimentary transit service into the Town-site of Banff, a 5 minute scenic ride that operates every 45 minutes. The Rimrock is also pleased to have a pool facility open for families from 7am until 9:30pm, with an adult swim from 9:30pm until 10:30pm.
We have taken your comments and will look forward to using them in our future changes.

We arrived at the Rimrock and were immediately greeted by smiling valet gentlemen and doormen. I was shown to the front desk right away where I was run through the layout of the hotel and policies very efficiently. We chose self-parking as it was considerably cheaper than valet. It was snowy and there were very few spaces in the 7 levels of underground parking. The upper uncovered parking had many spaces left. When we reached the lobby level at the parkade elevator, we were met with a set of 5 stairs and no ramp to get around it. I was 27 weeks pregnant and really didn’t want to lift my bags up this little set of stairs. It seemed a bit odd. A staff member on her way to do something else came out of nowhere and swooped up my bag for me. That was very kind and appreciated. I do think it’s a bit strange that they haven’t put a ramp there. There is a wheel-chair elevator for those who truly cannot get up the stairs. They win points on that, but I’m really not sure why they wouldn’t just put a ram there instead of stairs.

Our room was very nice as expected. The hotel’s décor is a mix of classic and slightly dated. It was built in 1993 and the pastel colours of the early 90s are found on the hallway carpets and the bathroom tiles. The view was spectacular. We had a view that was described as ‘partially tree and hotel obstructed mountain views’. That was exactly what it was, but when we woke up in the morning and saw the mountains, it was just serene. The room was much larger and nicer than I have had at the Banff Springs Hotel (paying about $50 more!)

We ate at the Primrose that evening (See Primrose Review).

After dinner, we planned to go down to the pool. The room had advertised that robes came complementary. They were not in the room, so we called the front desk and they were brought to us immediately. The spa, gym, hot tub, and pool areas were beautiful. The rock facing on the pillars and walls made it feel like you were in the mountains even while inside. The locker rooms were very nice. The sauna is in between the change rooms and there was also a steam room in the female change room. I’m not sure about the men’s change room as this was a girl’s trip!  There were personal showers, which I really appreciated. With sensitive skin, you really need to get the chlorine off as quickly as possible with soap. We enjoyed our time relaxing in the pool. The only thing I would say is that it would be nice to have a window open to bring some fresh mountain air in. The air was very humid when we entered into the facility. I understand that it is cold in the winter though.

One thing I didn’t like was that when I went to have my shower in the morning, the water was luke warm and then it would get hot/cold as the shower went on. I understand this as it’s a huge building with a lot of plumbing and people using the hot water. It was just disappointing.

We couldn’t hear any noise outside our room except for a few times in the hallway and a little tiny bit in the morning. We really took advantage of daylight savings time and stayed in bed until 11:00am (10:00am dst), and checked out at 12:00pm (11:00am dst). That was really nice. It has nothing to do with the hotel, but was a perk of staying at a hotel on the eve of daylight savings!  We made use of the express checkout and used the TV remote option to do so. That was very convenient!

Overall an excellent experience of course! 

Fabulous Location:
If you are able to do it, the hotel is walking distance from the gondola and the hot springs.
If it's winter, be advised that you will be traveling a couple of kms up a mountain road.

Tips:
If you are going to stay on a week-day call ahead and ask if Eden has specials on. They had incredible specials on meals for pretty much every day except for Saturdays when we were there… It is #1 in Banff.
Also, check the hotel website for deals as the deal finder sites may not be the cheapest for what you want.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are lovely in this hotel. The lobby is on the 7th floor as the hotel is built on a...
