We stayed here for 4 days in July, managing to get 4 night for the price of 3 through trailfinders. We then used it as our base to explore much of the Rockies. It was a great idea, as an ideal place to have for a longer-term base.
The bed was very comfortable and a good size, the shower was decent enough, and the bath fine as well. Plenty of space for us to move around and unpack for a longer stay.
A fridge (empty) meant we could buy food to make sandwiches for our day trips, and milk for cereal (the hotel did have breakfast offered in the next door Tony Roma, but they had no skimmed milk, and very expensive cereal, so we went for the buy your own option).
There was also a washing line over the bath, which proved useful when we were staying and walking for a few days, so could do some of our own washing.
The central location was also ideal, making it really easy to pop out anywhere in town at any time of day. Parking was very easy and in abundance, with no additional cost. Wifi was also free, although our room was right at the end of the corridor, so we were always in range - might be worth asking for a more central room if this would annoy you.
The jacuzzi downstairs was also a nice addition, if in need for a little bit of updating. A fun way to unwind at the end of a hard day's hiking.
We only ate at Tony Roma's one morning for breakfast. There was a large buffet, as well as a menu order service, but we decided to go to the local supermarket and stock up ourselves to save a bit of cash.
We found the concierge really helpful, giving us great suggestions for places to eat, as well as where to find good deals.
Overall, a great hotel for staying a few days. Although not 'luxury', there was nothing missing, and was great value for location and amenities.
Not down one end if you want a perfect internet connection continuously.

Dear Nicola J,

Thank you for your review of the Mount Royal Hotel.
We appreciate your feedback and are pleased that you had such an enjoyable stay.
For our guests who are staying longer we definitely suggest requesting a room with a fridge. We understand that some guests may want to make their own food so we do not stock the mini fridge.
We love to hear when our staff make a positive impression on our guests. Our concierge are trained to know the most up to date information on Banff and relay to our guests. Often restaurants in town have daily specials they do not advertise so asking our concierge can help you save some money!
Thank you for again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to the Mount Royal Hotel should you find yourself back in Banff!
