“Great Location, Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Great location right in middle of Banff strip. Walk to most shops and lots restaurants. Good Italian restaurant in hotel. Good Service. Quite a large hotel capable of catering for several tour groups. Catered breakfast well. We stayed several nights in late May. Oh yes, the worst ever bathroom arrangement of corner edge of vanity almost poking out one's eye when one sat on toilet. Several rooms were like this, but not all. The corner of vanity was VERY sharp and only needed to be rounded off. Only negative of our stay here.

Dear 2Luvtravel:

Thank you for your review of the Mount Royal Hotel. We are pleased to read that you liked our great location, right in the middle of downtown Banff, and that you enjoyed dining at Tony Roma’s restaurant. Our guest room washrooms recently underwent renovation but I will pass on your comments to our maintenance department so that they are aware of your experience.

We appreciate the overall positive review and look forward to welcoming you back should you ever return to the Canadian Rockies in future.

Sincerely,

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel. Our room was large on the corner of Banff Avenue and Caribou Street with a fantastic view of the snow capped mountains in the mornings. The king size bed was very comfortable although the bathroom was quite small. We were delighted to see a kettle and full sized fridge and the reception staff were happy to supply us with small cartons of milk for a cup of tea. This is the first hotel in Canada to have offered us these items. There was a good sized TV and real wine glasses which was a bonus. Tony Roma is part of this hotel and we had an excellent meal in there. There is also a Safeway in the town if you just wanted a snack or two.

As the hotel is well located in the town, it is quite noisy, particularly on the Saturday night but generally it did not disturb us. The lift is quite slow and the carpets in the main hallways were in need of TLC or replacement but none of these things affected our enjoyment in Banff.

Excellent location. We were supposed to stay one night, but ended up not leaving for 3 more nights due to weather and road conditions! The staff was very helpful, accommodating and had the difficult mission to handle stressed, despondent patrons in a patient manner. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It was also very clean! The pub was a savior and Jessica runs a tight ship! After stranded, 4 nights at the Mt. Royal became more than a hotel, it became home! Definitely would stay there again IF I ever return to Banff! Also, be sure to check the 10 day forecast beforehand!

Room Tip: I did not see other rooms. The room overlooking a roof was quiet.

Dear Rosemary G:

Thank for you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Mount Royal Hotel. We are pleased that you enjoyed our excellent location, spacious, clean rooms and onsite dining options. The Bow Valley Flooding was a very stressful time indeed and it is great to read that you found our staff very helpful and accommodating throughout the entire ordeal.

We appreciate your positive feedback and are glad that we were able to provide you with a home away from home during your stay in Banff. We look forward to your return when you next decide to visit the Canadian Rockies.

My husband and I stayed there on June 11th and 12th. The hotel was clean, the location was great, and there is a McDonald's a few doors down if you want a cheap meal. You can walk up and down the street and shop to your heart's content. The hotel also has a Tony Roma's restaurant in the lobby, and there is a no-frills hot tub in the basement area. There is free parking behind the hotel (they give you a printed parking pass to put on your car's dashboard during your stay.) I would recommend this hotel if you want to be centrally located, and do not plan to spend a lot of time in your hotel room. It's very nice.

Very nice hotel and most welcoming staff. There was a slight difficulty about our booking but we were assured that we need not worry & sure enough it was sorted in a few minutes. We had a lovely big comfortable room & even though it was to the front street it was quiet. Brendan helped us with directions to various attractions which added to the pleasure of our stay. The hotel was ideally located for walkers like ourselves as it was very central. I would stay there again.

A good hotel with clean, spacious rooms and a comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and helpful - we would particularly like to mention Brendan, who pointed us in the right direction twice!
It was a bit noisy outside on the night we were there, but that is obviously not the hotel's fault and is the price you pay for a central location.

This hotel is perfectly located in mid village Banff. The staff are super friendly and courteous and the newly renovated rooms are spacious and spotless. The lobby is a bit tired and out of date so don't be put off by that first impression. It's on the main drag so the rooms near the centre of each floor and at the back are quietest and preferred. I was in town for a conference at the Banff Springs and it was a lovely walk to work from the Mount Royal and I saved a bundle to spend on yummy local cuisine at Saltlik and Maple Cafe, the two local hot dining spots, both a short stroll from the Mount Royal. I will most def return!
