“Couldnt ask for more!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2011

OK, lets not mess about. There are some negatives here, its furthest hotel from town, restaurant isnt the best and only nakiska and lake louise bus picks up from hotel.

HOWEVER, for the cost you couldnt ask for more. The rooms are great, the staff are friendly, its 20 mins walk from town, and you get free bus pass, so to get to mount royal for other ski busses is fairly easy. Many of the hotels offered the same lack of direct busses as we saw loads of folk getting on the roam bus.

I would recommend it, and make sure you go to bumpers across the road!

We stayed at the Inns of Banff for 10 days over the New Year period. We stayed in an apartment in a block at the back of the hotel. Although we enjoyed our holiday we found the bus service was dreadful. There is a direct bus to Lake Louise from outside the door of reception, this takes one hour most days although I think we made the journey one time in 45 minutes. The reps all say it's 40 minutes but it's not. Most of our party preferred the Sunshine ski area and this required two buses, we caught the town roam bus at 8.55 most mornings, got off in a non descript car park at the Mount Royal Hotel and waited for half an hour in the bitter cold, no fun with three kids. The ski shuttle runs every 40 minutes, so catch the 3.45 at the end of the day or the next one is 5pm although it generally turned up earlier. Ski hire in the hotel took us 2 hours! The staff gave a complete beginner ski's that were longer than her 6 foot 3 son's ski's and when she went back after advice from her instructor the staff were very defensive. They were the worst ski hire staff I've ever dealt with. So overall fab holiday we skied our legs off but unless Banff sorts out it's bus service I wouldn't recommend this resort unless you confirm that your hotel offers regular and direct buses.

I recently stayed one night at the Inns of Banff during a ski trip.

When booking a hotel for this trip, my sole criterion was price. I scored a great rate on expedia for this hotel, having passed by it several times but never having stayed there before.

I was pleasantly surprised by my stay, as the rooms were very comfortable, the staff very friendly, and the outdoor hot-tub INCREDIBLE. Honestly, after a long day of skiing/driving the sight of a serene hot-tub, exuding heavenly mist into the clear night sky was exactly what I needed.

The layout of the hotel is also very interesting, as it is situated up on a hill with the multiple buildings connected by walkways.

I have only 2 negative things to say about this hotel. First, it is quite the distance from downtown Banff, which can make for a rather cold trek should you want to venture into town on foot. Second, the breakfast buffet was not the best I have ever had, and at a $13.00 price point, felt like a bit of a rip-off.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, but it is best suited to those who want to save some money and do not mind being a bit far from the "action".

Dear guest,

Thank you for your positive review. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us.

Our outdoor hot tub is a great feature of Inns of Banff. It has beautiful view of the mountains and it's absolutely "must to visit" while staying here.

We provide complimentary Roam passes (public transport in Banff) to our guests to "shorten" the distance to downtown. Just ask front desk agent for your pass if you don't receive it upon check in.

Thank you again for taking your time and sharing your experience with others and I hope to see you again in the future.

Overall this is an older hotel that hasn't been maintained too well. The overall cleaniness of the hotel is very poor, hallways appear to not have been vaccumed in awhile, garage in hallways, left-over room service dining dishes didn't appear to disappear too fast from hallways. The hallway/staircase entry to the outdoor pool stunk something terrible, obvious rot/mildew/mold/bacteria. Thankfully the outdoor pool which is the best thing about the hotel had lots of chorine in it, needed it becauase it was alittle dirty too with sand and gum see on the floor of the spa.

Upon arriving, purposefully late (5pm) in order to allow staff more time after the newyear eve guest had departed our room was still not cleaned which was not impressive. Also shocking was after returning from a day of skiing we found our room door half way open (unlocked) and the room had been made up. Thankfully it didn't appear anything was stolen but to me an unforgiveable mistaken on part of the hotel staff. Their response to my complaint was not adeqate. Parking and layout is poor. Overall their are better places to stay at with better value, some of which are right across the street. This will be my first and last trip to the Inns of Banff.

For the most part this was an average hotel, and the outdoor hot tub is great. The thing that wasn't so great was that we had a mouse come in and out of our room a few times through a hole in the wall. To be honest, the mouse wasn't even the bad part. It was more the response from the hotel when we brought it to their attention. We were hoping to maybe switch rooms, or if that wasn't possible, at least get a mouse trap or something since we had booked and paid for two nights. Instead we got a really confused response from the front desk (ie. what's the big deal with a mouse in your room?) and a guy from customer service that came and asked us where the mouse went (?!) and offered to help us chase the mouse out of the room if it came back. We're hoping that mice in rooms is not a common occurrence at this hotel, but can't say that that response left us feeling especially confident about that!

We stayed here with our two children in building B - third floor. Our room was spacious with a large balcony and wonderful mountain views. It's a little dated but the beds were comfy. We were just down the hall from the hot pools which we really enjoyed after a long day walking around in the cold. The service was great - you cannot find better value for the money. I recommend staying here.

We've stayed here a few times now - both in main hotel and in Swiss village next door. OK, it is not the Four seasons but, for the price you pay it has to be the best value in Banff for Skiing. (not sure about summer, have never been)
1-Large rooms - plenty of room for all your gear, or, in our case now, ski gear plus children.
2-The most amazing outdoor rooftop hot top. Easily surpasses others such as Fairmont in Whistler. Small indoor pool and hot tub. All good for aching muscles.
3-Friendly pub downstairs selling good beer and bar food & hockey on TV
4-First stop for ski bus so you always get a seat...also first stop on way home.
5- free shuttle to town stops outside. Pizza place and beer store across the road. Also AMAZING steakhouse (bumpers - eat in bar upstairs, its cheaper)
6-free wi-fi

Downsides = I wouldn't bother with the restaraunt - bit pricey for what you get. It is a fair trek to town so you may want to get shuttle or factor in cabs for nights out. The rooms are dated - but it doesn't sell itself as a boutique hotel! You Pays your money takes your choice.

You may want to ask for a room near the hot tub as some are a fair trek from it. Or even a room near reception if thats what you want (reception is miles from hot tub though!)
On site ski room, rentals, servicing shop.

Wish I was going this year now having written that!
