“What a Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2010

We stayed for 10 nights at this hotel. The rooms were brilliant and the beds were so comfortable and the room was so clean.

You have to separate reviews on the Inns of Banff from the Swiss Chalet. The hotel is not the same as the Swiss Chalet. The Swiss Chalet is a budget place to stay and you get what you pay for. The hotel on the other hand is great.

The food in the main area opposite the reception was wonderful and the service was friendly and made you feel at home. The Manageress of the restaurant was so friendly and would make sure that your evening meal was how you wanted it. The only complaint about the restaurant was the assistant manageress who was not pleasent.

The reception made sure that if there were any problems they would sort it out. They give you free passes to go on the bus which comes regularly to the outside of the hotel to go to different areas of Banff. There is no need to walk unless you want to.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone but make sure you stay in the hotel. If you want to be together then you must book together and communicate with them your requirements.

We are hoping to go back next year

If you just need a place to sleep one night, fine, but this is no place to spend a vacation. Rooms were marginally maintained, paper thin walls to other rooms and the outdoors, balcony in economy room is a joke and looks to the parking lot and a gas station. The front desk staff was good.

Spend a little more and stay in a comfortable place.

We travelled with extended family and requested rooms near each other. My family was put in "C" building and the other family was put in "B" building. All of the buildings connect by tunnels which are far apart. The hotel is built on a hill so floor 4 in C Building is floor 2 in B Building etc. It is, as a result, very confusing and long when trying to get A Building where the lobby and pool are. The signs are awful.

The room was stifling hot.

When we checked in, we were told we were getting a "free upgrade" to a "mountainview room" to make up for the fact that we were nowhere near the rest of our family. Of course, it was not a mountainview room. The "salesman" who checked us in was very rude when we asked him about that.

The Bumper's restaurant across the road was very good - minimal wait times, reasonably priced and good food. I got just the salad bar and that was great.

The price is very high for what it is. People are coming and going at all hours of the night and day. When they roll their suitcases down the hall it sounds like a train going through the hotel. The bar restaurant is reasonable for the area and good food. The rooms are very small and some do not have a great view. The rooms are very clean and well equipped.

The rooms were clean and comfortable and we had a nice view -we were told we had been upgraded free but the standard of the room was what we would have expected from our booking. The town was great and made a good base for exploring the Park and there were some nice cafes and restaurants. The Old Spaghetti Factory served good food at a good price - a 4 course meal is therebasic menu and the choice is reasonably good. The facilities at the hotel were disappointing as the restaurant and bar were closed most of the time and on the two occasions we decided to eat there the menu had been restricted once and it was closed on the second occasion. This in a 3 night stay! It was apparently policy for the duty manager to decide whether to open the facilities.

We stayed at this place for 3 days and generally was very satisfied with the facilities as we had an upper level room with a large balcony looking out at the mountains ... a great view. The room was laid out nicely, good internet access, and generally clean; however, it was clear that things had not been dusted in a long time. Easy access to the hotel on the edge of downtown which was nice as the downtown area was really crazy busy. The "Wildfire" resturant in this hotel was not busy as easily explained by the quality of food and service. I always thought that it is hard to mess up breakfast ... I was wrong ... don't eat the pancakes!! On the plus side, we ate several meals at a sister hotel down the street called "The Keg" and the facility and food were excellent. Overall, based on the price, location, and general concerns, it was a very good place to stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel for the price but we did have two concerns.
1) The weather in Banff was really beautiful and there was no air conditioning in the rooms. It became very hot and our only option for air was to open our curtains and sleep with the patio door open. Our room faced right into the another room so we really felt we were losing our privacy as well.

2) The second complaint is a small one. Howevery by the time we got back to our hotel from the adventures of the day and showered and dressed for dinner, eat dinner and returned to the room it was getting later in the evening and the rooftop hot tub closes at 10pm. It was so beautiful and such a nice view we really wished it would have stayed open until 11pm so we could enjoy the sunset.

Other than that...you get what you paid for...a clean bed to sleep on.
