“Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Hotel is a walk away from shops and restaurants. Included breakfast had a reasonable selection. We had a 2room suite as we were travelling with adult son but you had to go through our room to get to bathroom - not ideal layout. The room had a microwave and dining table and chairs but no crockery or cutlery. We were out from 9.45 to 3.30 but our room had still not been made up when we got back. This hotel was o.k for a short stay

We stayed here for 5 nights in a suite that had two queen beds. We thought it had a pull out in the main room but it was a queen bed; we would have preferred to have a sofa than to have to sit on the bed. Otherwise the room had a small dining table with chairs, a microwave and small fridge. The other room had a queen bed, bureau and a small balcony. Both rooms had large TV's. Though the set up wasn't perfect, we did like the room. We were on the corner so the natural light was great and the views were wonderful. The location is good being on the main strip and the walk to the center is only a few minutes. Parking was free in the underground garage. The breakfast options were basic and mainly cold. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is not fancy and shows its age in parts, but the price was reasonable and we enjoyed it.

The High Country Inn is one of a group of moderately-priced hotels along Banff Avenue in this popular tourist town of 8000 in Alberta's Rocky Mountains. Built about 30 years ago, this inn is close to the shopping, dining/drinking, and entertainment areas of Banff without being right in the centre of the "action".

The rooms in the High Country are in the process of being upgraded; we were assigned a "superior queen" which consisted of a comfortable queen bed separated from the sitting/dining area by an angled glass block/solid wall partition. The main sleeping area was adjacent to a small balcony with beautiful mountain views (over the roofs of surrounding buildings). In the sitting area is a wood-paneled wall-bed, also queen-sized. Each sleeping area has a modern TV, and there is a kitchenette with new cupboards, a mini-fridge, microwave, and cutlery and dishes. The bathroom has been up-graded, and is very clean and modern. Water pressure and temperature were excellent.

Although Banff is a bustling town, it was very quiet in our room, as it faced a street perpendicular to the busy Banff Avenue. Our one concern was that the temperature at night was too high, and adjusting the thermostat/air conditioning controls seemed to have little effect. (When discussed with the front desk person next morning, he agreed that this seemed to be a common complaint...but they were working on improving this issue.)

The room and hallways are very clean; the cleaning staff are friendly and efficient, as are the front desk personnel. Free parking is available underground as well on a surface lot towards the rear of the inn.

Although there is a restaurant ("Ticino", a highly-rated Swiss-Italian establishment) in the building, it's not really part of the hotel (as it does not provide room service nor the type of discounts guests might expect). A complimentary breakfast is included, however, in a large and bright main floor room. The selections include the usual continental servings, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

The large pool and two spas are in a main-floor room with greenhouse-like windows facing Banff Avenue. Like the rest of this establishment, this area is clean and in good repair.

The High Country Inn is an excellent choice for economical and comfortable accommodation in Banff. There are many hotels to choose from in this popular town as well as in Canmore, just outside of the national park, but one can be guaranteed to be truly satisfied at The High Country Inn.

Room Tip: We phoned the hotel directly, and got a better rate than on its website or on such sites as Trivago.

I stayed at this hotel for three days earlier this month. The hotel is in a great location in central Banff, short walk to shops and restaurants.

The room was a tad dated, but the beds and television appeared to be new. There was a balcony and the wifi signal was great.

We had a hire car, so the underground car park was convinient. There was a pool and hot tub downstairs. We didnt try the breakfast, as we ate out.

The only downpoints were we did find rubbish from previous occupants in the room and although we turned the heating off, the room was so hot at night we had trouble sleeping. I believe this would be the room being on the third floor and the heat rising.

Would definately stay here if we were to return to Banff. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

I wouldn't give this hotel any rating if I could... Air conditioners are disgusting! do they ever clean them out? only blew out dust if you ask me. Found garbage under the bed (and on deck) and glasses did not look clean... i wouldn't dare trust those..
Chambermaid staff were loud and glared at me when i switched my do not disturb sign around to have service, and to my surprise (not) my room was not even cleaned properly.. (out of spite?) it only makes me wonder who declares these rooms passable...
Breakfast options appear to be the cheapest items possible and you get yelled at if you want to take it to your room. Spend your valuable money Elsewhere.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your feedback concerning our property. I would like to apologize for your discontent this past week while visiting our hotel.

I would also like to add that it was disappointing from our perspective that you did not give us the chance to improve the situation. We certainly could have offered a different room or some other way to show how much we care about our guests satisfaction.

As for our housekeeping staff, I do apologise for the level of noise, however during the day most guests are out exploring the town of Banff and what it has to offer. Noise complaints no matter the time of day can always be rectified to make all guests happy as guest service is our number one priority.

For the breakfast I am sorry it was not up to your standards but we find most guests are extremely satisfied with what we have to offer as it is only a continental breakfast but we include extra items like hard boiled eggs and a variety of carbohydrates at no extra cost. There are also very clear signs before you enter the breakfast room that state no food is to be taken up to guest rooms as this has caused problems in the past with cutlery being stolen and excessive mess left behind. I hope you understand why we have this rule in place.

I would like the chance to provide you with a more enjoyable experience at our hotel. Please feel free to contact the front office manager directly and a good value stay can be arranged.

Warm regards,

Lucinda Wynn.
Front Office Manager.

High Country is a nice clean hotel in a good location on Banff Avenue. It is an easy walk to restaurants and shopping which is a convenient option as parking downtown can be challenging. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
