My hubby and I got back yesterday from a 3 night "mini" ski break in Banff, and stayed at the High Country Inn.
We booked through Expedia and got a great rate (approx. $85.00 cdn per night), so we weren't sure what to expect upon arrival.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay! The Auzzie gal at check in was quite nice and helpful, and our room was quite large, and very clean. There even was a little welcome note from the housekeeper! the hotel itself is a short walk to the main shopping and dining area of Banff (less than 5 minutes, I think), and there is a Safeway just around the corner to stock up on whatever you need for the stay.
We found that all areas of the hotel were spotless - even the elevator, which in a previous review was deemed "scary to get into"... The pool area was extremely clean and bright, and the pool itself seemed to be at a lovely temperature, as were the two hot tubs in the pool area.
The Continental Breakfast was basic but adequate, with toast, a couple of cereals, coffee and tea, juices, some basic fruit and self made belgian waffles.
I really thought that for the amount we paid for the room we got really good value. I would definately stay there again!

    • Disliked — the rooms were rather warm for April, but opening the window took care of that!

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in December. i had room with balcony and it had lovely view.
The room was clean and very comfortable. The location was great , only 3 mins walk to centre. I did the waterfalls trail in the snow to Banff spring hotel which has fantastic views.
There is safeway , 2 mins from the hotel so anyone on budget can buy snacks / fruit from there.
The free breakfast was bonus as you can make yr own waffles there ( loved the waffles) .
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would definately stay in this hotel again .

We really enjoyed our two-nights stay! The room was spacious and cozy, the lighting well spread, the private bathroom clean and provided with many towels. Moreover, indoor parking and buffet breakfast were free (the only hotel with these free facilities in our whole trip through Canada)!! We would definitely recommend to spend a night here if you ever visit Banff.

We stayed here for 1 night 09.08.07 as part of our Rocky Mountaineer trip. When we got there the hotel looked dirty the carpet in the lift (you need nerves of steel to get in it) was filthy. There was a used towel hanging up in our bathroom of which there was a bath and toilet and your wash basin was in the bedroom. The room was dark and dingy and when I returned the towel to reception was told they had had no water for a few hours that day hence the state of the rooms. Not sure how lack of water effects the use of a vacumn cleaner.
After a lovely meal out at Giorgio's Trattoria Banff (excellent food) we returned and decided to use the facilities advertised to get out of the room really. The Sauna was switched on for us. The actual floor in the sauna is not complete and when I lay down on the Graffitti scratched bench that's when I spotted the chewing gum stuck underneath, When I told the lad at reception he just shrugged and said oh well i'll let housekeeping know tomorrow. No pool towels.
The swimming pool was not much better shower didn't work although signs everywhere saying shower before pool. Toilet paper all over the ladies changing area and generally dirty that was more than one day of dirt. Didn't go in the pool it'self as went in the whirlpool while another guest tried to find out why the room was so dark as the 3 spotlights were not working. Was told - nevermind they are shorting will get Maintenance to look tomorrow. Got out of the pool as a safety measure. Other whirlpool not working but empty with dirt in the bottom.
Airconditioning so loud we couldn't sleep then water running constantly all night. Fatique got the better of us and finally went to sleep.
As we did not receive our early wake up call or the bell boy to collect the cases 1 hour before our coach was due to go we woke up with 25 minutes before we were due to leave. Had no time for breakfast that looked diabolical ( thanks goodness) but grabbed 2 takeaway drinks - one luckwarm coffee and a very bad cup of tea. Would never stay here again and would not recommend to anyone else. Will be writing to Canandian Affair and Rocky Mountaineer to highlight how bad this hotel was.
Didn't even take a picture the only hotel as it was that bad here didn;t want to prolong the memory.

“Good Value - Great Location”

High Country Inn

May 18, 2007

High Country Inn is in a great location about 2 blocks east of the main strip where the shops, bars and clubs are located. The Inn itself is basic enough but with comfortable, clean rooms and secure underground parking. There is free wireless internet, the connection can be a bit intermittant so its not ideal for using VOIP but it gets the job done. There is a quite substantial continental breakfast buffet which is great. Oh and Banff itself gets a 6 star rating..... what a place!! I just want to move there!!
