“Felt at home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

We loved staying here, it was rustic and homey. Our kids loved playing in the pools and water slides. Our chalet had everything we needed in it. Thoroughly enjoyed having a fire going during breakfast and evenings. Easy access to the town of Banff and staff was excellent and friendly.
Cheers :)

Room Tip: We personally loved the freedom of staying in the chalet because it was so private.

Left our suite at 10.30am....returned at 5:15pm to a room that had not been touched yet. called front desk and was told they were probably here before we left in the morning, but since the door was locked and no one answered, they left. it's a small suite with three of us staying, and no one heard the knock???
Front desk said that they have to look after the new incoming guests as well, so they would probably get to our room around 6:00.....most likely just as we're sitting down for supper! NICE,!!!! We arrived yesterday, and are planning to stay five nights, $900ish, so I guess once they have you here already, the new incoming guests are more important.

I have been going to Douglas Fir since I was a teen with my family. Now we regularly book twice a year with our boys (ages 6 and 4). Excellent service and very kid friendly. Beautiful location up on Tunnel Mountain with an outdoor cooking area and a watermark and indoor playground for the kids. Our boys beg to go back every summer! Excellent value and a rustic feel that is true to it's mountain surroundings. Babysitting is available and the Fir has great family packages to choose from.

Room Tip: The one bedroom condos are nice!

We stayed in their premiere room, the Executive Suite. It has 2 bedrooms {1 with a King size bed, bathroom and Jacuzzi in the room} and the 2nd bedroom has 1 Queen Bed. The suite has a full kitchen, living room with wood-burning fireplace, another bathroom off the dining room and also a sofa bed. The suite also boasted flat-screen TV’s and DVD players in every room. This suite was the perfect room to get when travelling with 3 kids, plenty of space to roam and relax without that crowded feeling like standard hotel rooms have made us feel. In fact, the entire set-up and amenities were the most ideal and convenient for us as a family.

Having this full kitchen allowed us to have breakfast in the room, pack a picnic to take with us for lunch and snacks. Then we ate in restaurants int he town of Banff for supper. We chose to eat out once a day while there, yet having that full kitchen and dish ware meant that you could also make family meals in room all the time if you chose. As well, there is the option of getting continental breakfasts too – so many choices!

One morning we woke to a deer family outside our suite!

Why family friendly? It has the Giant Indoor Kids Playzone and the 2 Huge indoor waterslides!

the crawlspaces in the playzone are big enough for adults to fit into too, which was a major bonus for me – in case a search and rescue needed to be done for the kids, lol.

They have an excellent separate pool and slides for toddlers. Plus, a generous sized hot pool for adults. Yep, this waterpark caters to adults, children and younger toddlers. And, you can sit in the hot pool and easily see both other areas for supervision. Nice, right?

There’s also a games room {love Air Hockey}, fitness room, outdoor tennis/basketball courts, barbecue stations, sauna and steam room. Wifi and internet is free to all guests, and so is the option to use their provided wood or chop your own.

Registered guests of the Douglas Fir Resort enjoy FREE AND UNLIMITED use of the Town of Banff shuttle bus system {and have pet-friendly rooms for your furry family members too}.

See? Great for everyone, we will be back!

Customer service was fantastic and prompt and they went above and beyond, the best I've experienced in a very long time. Rooms were good, only problem was toaster, but they replaced immediately. Place was very quiet, although it was a slow season (week before spring break).

Room Tip: Stayed in one bedroom suite (#181), was quiet, out the way, saw deer right outside every day. Would...

In my 25 years of travelling experience, this was the worst place to sleep. It was extremely hot and dry on the second floor. The temperature control did not seem to help when we tried to turn down the heat. The resort is very dated and hard to find your way around to amenties because you have to go thru different hallways to get anywhere, it's like a maze. The assigned parking spots in the undergroung parking ceiling are low and have pipes running above. I have a small brand NEW SUV which got damaged when I opened the trunk and it hit the pipes above. While the water slides were fun for the kids, there's no lifeguards to control how many kids go at once, an injury inevitable if parents are not minding their kids. This is my first and last time at Douglas Fir.

Room Tip: Don't stay there!

Quiet place, incredible kitchenettes, comfortable clean rooms, great flexibility with accommodation of bigger families (more than 4 people). A lot of fun for kids (waterslides, swimming pool, excellent play-zone). The rate is really pays for itself.
It was our second visit and we are planning to visit again
