“The Wildlife was a nice touch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We booked a Loft Condo, cosy but comfortable. Great view of the woods from the balcony and the wildlife coming up to the condo of an evening really made the stay something special. Good location away from Town which is a bit of a hectic place. The free bus into town is a plus however we didn't use it. Facilities are good and the bottle shop and convenience store were handy but a little of the expensive side. If yoU are going to stay here and use the kitchen, shop at Safeways in Canmore. It's a lot larger than the one in Banff. From Douglas fir it's lets than 15 minutes away but worth it.

Although the interiors are dated, we would definitely come back again.

“Rooms dated but good location away from crowds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

It had a good location if you want to be away from the hussle and bussle of downtown Banff. This made it easy to drive off to other locations like Lake Louise. You probably will need to drive to get to the restaurants in Banff although many were walking down the hill. It is a long hike back up. The chalet we stayed at was a bit dated and the wifi was slow and spotty. The single bathroom was small and noisy for four adults. It's window opened into the entry walkway so it couldn't be left open. The downstair room could barely fit two people. The upstair room was a loft without doors where you had to be careful not to hit your head.

“Great Place To Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Our stay at the Douglas Fir is always pleasant and relaxing PLUS fun! We have always booked a 1 bedroom condo which nicely accommodates our family of 4. This time our condo was in the back facing the mountains and we got the treat of seeing Elk right outside our deck door - Literally - right outside the door! Plus a mule deer - again - right outside our door. Fantastic! The accommodations are always clean, and well stocked with wood and kindling for the fireplace. We usually order the breakfast with our stay which provides more than enough for one day and is a good deal! No need to worry about food the next morning! The waterslides are a hit with the kids and I see that they are putting an addition onto that area (not sure what - but can hardly wait!) We will definitely try to make this an annual retreat for our family!

Room Tip: One in the far back, facing the mountains and the wooded area!

“Good Family Chalets”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The chalets are a nice layout if you have a family. The kids liked having their own room with their own single beds. The chalet layout adds to the mountain feel that a hotel room can't give you.
We found the units to be dated. Probably built in the '70 with some upkeep but not much modernization. Cleaning staff need to spend more attention to the bugs in the light fixtures. Wouldn't stay in the lower unit of the chalet because you will get headlights in your window and noise from the upper unit. $229/night for off season is a little high. $180 is more reasonable.

Would probably try the "Fox" next time because it has a better location and has a newer log house feel to it. We stayed at Tunnel Mountain across the road last year and this hotel was better.
