“Lost attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

We have been staying at this resort with our children and their friends having birthday parties and family get togethers for 20 years. Are children are all grown and we decided to go back and stay in a studio suite and found they lost there attention to detail. The bedspread is from the 1970's and could be used as a curtain sheer as you could see through it. The sofabed was stained and I was scared to turn it over so I put the supplied blanket on top. The peep hole on the door was dirty, blurry and non functional adding to a security risk. The attractions that are still the best are the upgraded appliances, waterpark, bathroom and the wood burning fireplace, the views from any room doesn't hurt either.

Room Tip: The loft suites are a better choice.

Travelling down the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Banff we thought we would take a chance and not book our accommodation in advance. Lucky we did as a fully booked lodge called ahead to Douglas Fir and they were able to fit our family of 4 in.
We had a 3 bedroom loft with a large private balcony and open fire. I loved the privacy and the open spaces around for the kids to run around and chase squirrels. Beds were comfy and the kids were wrapped as they each had 2 x single beds in their room AND a flat screen TV. After travelling for weeks and the comfort of the loft, we turned our stay into 3 nights and enjoyed Banff and our stay.

We would definatley stay there again.

We booked a loft chalet in June 2011 and were thrilled when we arrived to find our rooms were exactly as described on the internet with open fires and a well equipt kitchen, clean and very comfortable. Our kids had a ball running around in the forest and spotting white tail deer and squirrels. We were a party of 12 and we all had seperate loft chalets but it was great that we could cook on the grille together under the gazebo and enjoy a red wine.
The location of the Douglas fir is fantastic and the free shuttle bus to town is a big plus. All of us enjoyed our stay here and hope to return one day soon.

We stay in Banff on an average of 4 times per year. Our stop now is always at the Douglas Fir.
Nice fireplace and balcony. We had a half dozen white tails right up to our balcony. The view of the mountains is spectacular! Free bus service to downtown and return.

Room Tip: Rooms 145 to 150 offer the best view, although 170 t0 180 are adequate.

Booked a 3-bedroom suite ($500) mid-April 2012

+ all 3 bedrooms in the same suite, awesome for big family together (or not??)
+ big dining table, kitchen, lots of plates/glasses/utensils
+ B/c suite is indoors above parking garage, it has Elevators
+ Kids PlayZone was a hit, for kids
+ LCD TV, gaming console/interface (didn't use but nice to have)
+ Can order delivery to room (we ordered Boston Pizza, $4 delivery charge, and CC machine worked at our room door, whew~)

- Iffy Internet signal
- Far away from town, needs to drive. Bus is every 30-40 mins
- 3-bedroom suite is inside, not a standalone unit
- Parking garage indoor is nice, but my 15-passenger van is too tall for it so we had to park outside
- didn't get suite 421 which faced the mountain view. We got 422 which faced the Tunnel Mtn Rd

We wanted a night getaway with our baby (5 months old). Since we live in Calgary, we decided a night away in Banff was close. We stayed in a one bedroom condo, which was well equiped. The kitchen had all the basic needs. The bed was quite comfortable and we liked having the gas fireplace. The shower was powerful and there was alot of hot water. We took our son to the pool (as the kiddie pool wan't open until 10:00 AM) and it was quite cool (he teeth chattered). We sat on the edge of the hot tub abd splashed warm water on him. I can see when our son is older that we will come here and make use of the waterslides and play zone. Overall this is a great place for a family.

Stayed in a pet friendly room which was a little worn but too be expected with dogs in there every night. THe room was very spacious and well equipped. Great location if you have dogs as you can walk them on site with ease. We had an emergency situtation which meant that we had to ask for a later check out and the front desk staff did not hesitate to give us what we needed and offered assistance - first class response. I would recommend for families and those travelling with pets. We will return.
