“Not bad at all.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

Stayed for three nights in late June 2010. Room was small but clean. Bed not the best for a fussy back like mine but not the worst in Banff for sure. Room view was great, the Bow river right there. Staff is great. Repeat, staff is great. Midnight check-in after a harrowing mountain thunderstorm was smooth and effortless, kudos to the lad on late duty. Pool area(incl. steam room and jacuzzi and hotpool) in sister hotel was small but very nice. At one time we had Americans, Japanese, New Brunswick people and 2 Englishwomen there. Awesome travel experience! Breakfast buffet is pricey and ok. The Safeway is a block away, opens 8am, and has something called "food". Nice. Just what you need. Good location, quiet but close to everything. And by the way, you can hear the train horns at night EVERYWHERE in Banff !!

2 couples; 2 rooms; researched a lot via web in advance - very disappointed upon arrival; Property is old and in disrepair; Misleading in that pool, jacuzzi, steam room is in the Banff Park Lodge Hotel across the alley; hourly and daily charge for wireless internet; $1 charge for each phone access; very overpriced. Bottomline - refused to stay at this property; front desk agent of no help; went next door to Banff Park Lodge Hotel (sister property) - they agreed to allow us to stay there for same booking price as Bow View. Banff Park Lodge is a very nice property and recommendable. Take care: Bow View uses a different Star Rating System than the rest of the world... they claim to be 3 star on the Banff scale... I'd put them at 1 star on the world scale. This property is not recommendable in our opinion.

Thank you for your review. We actively address all maintenance related issues and to hear that our property is in a state of disrepair is very disappointing to us. The Bow View Lodge has been awarded the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association’s Housekeeping Award for over 20 consecutive years – an award that is based in part on the general state of repair of our property. Regarding our pool and exercise facilities, our website states that these facilities are located within our sister property Banff Park Lodge. We openly invite all guests to contact the hotel should they wish to convey comments or concerns and we will act promptly to rectify them.

Just to repeat other comments - great location, close to river walks and to centre of town. Room was fine, clean and fitted well, paper cups are OK with me (I've seen articles on how room cups are cleaned!). Breakfast in the sister hotel was good.

We stayed here for 3 nights and can honestly say that the location could not be bettered - get a room with a view of the Bow River and you are so close to this beautiful River it is breathtaking. The location is close enough to walk to the shops in Banff and there is parking which is a bonus! The hotel itself is very 60's style but rooms are extremely clean, we had a room with a queen bed + a single bed (it would have been better with just the queen and a sofa - I think someone else has made this comment). The balcony was great -it made the room so airy which makes a change from those rooms where youcan't even open the windows! Yes you can walk from one balcony to another as someone mentioned but hey does that matter everyone who was on their balcony was very friendly and waved to each other! Don't be put off by the gloomy/outdated reception area and the long corridors -it's just the way the hotel is built. Overall a good deal for a great location with a clean and comfortable (did I say the beds were comfortable -they were!) room. We ate breakfast and dinner at Melissas - very good. One small problem I am glad we checked the bill as they had charged us for internet access which we did not have.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a room that overlooked the hotel entrance/hospital. Rooms were large, we had two double beds, rooms have a balcony and a fridge. Hotel was fairly dated. Nice location just a block away from Banff Avenue. Coffee maker but no kettle, and only paper cups for some reason! Computer in reception - $2 per 15mins. Free parking (outside). You can use the facilities of the more upmarket hotel next door although we never went there. Very good value and we would stay here again.

This lodge is not the most modern in town but we found the room which overlooked the river to be very comfortable. It was clean how ever the facilities could be looked at by management. We did not drink Coffee so had to ask for tea bags. The only cups were paper cups, proper cups were supplied when requested from reception. I would recommend this Lodge for its location as it is only a short walk to the main shopping area, the railway station or the Brewsters transport center. We enjoyed our stay here and would gladly stay there again.

We spent 2 nights here. Room was clean, location was easy walking distance to the main street, there was free wifi and the buffet breakfast at the hotel next door was very convenient. Lovely position overlooking the Bow River, and very reasonably priced.
