“Nice little find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

we stayed one night in this hotel and it was fantastic. We had a double room which was very nice and clean. The wifi and location were excellent. The staff were very friendly and even the smallest request was met with a smile. Thank you for making our stay very enjoyable.

stayed at this hotel for one night whilst touring the rockys, it is a dated hotel but it is clean, the shower was hot and plenty of pressure the beds were clean and reasonably comfy, we had no problems with parking and the wifi was quite good although it is charged as extra, the staff were not the most friendly i have come across but it didn't ruin my stay. Very good location within walking distance of majority of shops and restaurants.

As other reviewers have pointed out,the "Bow View Lodge" is not a fancy chain hotel,some called it even "dated".But my wife and I found,that this hotel has a certain vintage charm.It is well- managed,clean and well-maintained.Our room on the 3rd floor (#312),overlooking the "Bow River",had 2 comfortable beds,a round table with 3 chairs,a TV and a fridge.The bathroom was on the smallish side,with very little storage space,but still adequate enough for us.A sliding patio door lead to a narrow balcony with 2 chairs.If you plan to stay in Banff,your No.1 concern should be the location of your hotel.Banff has only 2 connections to the Transcanada Highway,and by mid-afternoon the traffic starts to build up,ending up in maddening traffic jams later on.The "Bow View Lodge" is located at the edge of the town.Just a few minutes off Highway No.1,turn right into "Wolf Street",and you are there.As other reviewers have mentioned,parking is very limited (restricted by "Parks Canada"),and not just at the hotel.Every time after your excursions you return to the "Bow View Lodge" it is a challenge to find a parking space.Obviously the later you arrive,the worse it gets.We visited in Sept. 2014.I wonder,how guests will cope with limited parking and traffic jams during the busy summer months.But once you have parked your vehicle close to the "Bow View Lodge",there is really no need for it anymore.You can walk basically everywhere in Banff.The "Bow View Lodge" has no restaurant,but you can eat at the sister hotel,the "Banff Park Lodge" next door.We stayed away from this hotel,because it seems to cater mostly to bus tourists.We also found their breakfast buffet at $can 19.95+tax,and the Sunday Brunch at $can 27.95+tax too expensive,even for Banff.For excellent breakfast,lunch and dinner we can recommend "Melissa's Missteak",a few feet past and opposite the "Banff Park Lodge" on 218 Lynx Street;
"Ricky's All Day Grill" in the "International Hotel",and the "St.James Gate Irish Pub" (separate reviews to follow soon).Restaurants fill up quickly after 18.30.Reservations are recommended.
WiFi at the "Bow View Lodge" was very good;normally not free, but we were not charged.Much has been said and written about the freight trains, that whistle (sometimes more than once) at every crossing, and that it wakes you up at night.I am afraid,if you travel in the Banff- and Jasper National Parks, even as far west as Kamloops and as far east as Kenmore along the Transcanada Highway, there is no way to get away from these trains. You will get used to it.Bring a good pair of ear plugs (3M Classic Foam).

Spent a couple of nights here whilst travelling across the Rockies.

The location is superb, just a few streets away from the shops, bars and restaurants, whilst being adjacent to the beautiful river and path walk.

I found it a little difficult to find on arrival but I think that was more my Sat Nav than the hotel signage. Parking in Banff is difficult in general, lots of controlled parking zones and a shortage of spaces when I arrived.

The hotel has a limited car park which can be a pain if full. However, you can use the car park and facilities at the sister hotel which is adjacent.

I think the hotel offers good value for what it is. I feel that the hotel could do with some upgrading and redecoration as it did stand out as being dated in comparison to some of the other places i stayed. Saying that I found the room comfortable and suitable for my needs. I spent a great deal of time out so only really used the room to sleep in and it was more than adequate for my needs.

The sister hotel next door is open to use and is of a very high standard and contains a pool and gym which looked excellent.

Once again I found the staff very friendly and helpful, which is a theme I found whilst travelling across Canada.

I paid for breakfast in the sister hotel and found this to contain an excellent choice and offer good value.

On the down side Banff does have a problem with train noise wherever you say. The trains thunder through the town throughout the night and the train horn can cause disturbed sleep. Whilst annoying it did not spoil my stay.

Banff is a cool place with lots to do and I would definitely return and stay at Bow Lodge.

Room Tip: If you can get a river view, it's lovely.

Stayed here for 2 nights and was very happy and would definitely stay here again. Location was great only about 1 block from the Main Street. Our room was on the ground floor right next to the washrooms off reception - and whilst we didn't hear any comings and goings it was pleasant walking past them and next time would request a room upstairs with a balcony. Room was very comfortable and clean and heating works well.

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and only have two negatives, one is no free WiFi although due to them having problems they did actually let us have it for free. The other is the trains which were very loud tooting their horn at least 5 times during the night! But saying that we still got some sleep and were very happy with our stay here. The room was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. We had a river view room and woke up one morning to see an Elk right outside our balcony window. The hotel is in a perfect location very close to downtown so we were able to stroll into town and have a drink. Parking at the hotel was good, we came back one night and there were no spaces but we were quickly told we could use the underground car park in the sister hotel just across from our carpark so we never had a problem. Overall Bow View Lodge was perfect for us and we really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel complex is in a great central location. It is so easy to access and depart if you are visiting in Banff. The only downfall is the trains.....all night long. Just to add the hotel is a little dated but the location certainly makes up for it.
The rates are reasonable for what you receive. Highly recommend booking well in advance. There are so many activities going on all the time in Banff that you don't want to arrive and expect lodging.

Room Tip: Get the rooms on the far side of the trains. Unless you like a view of the river.
