“Rustic Charm and Abundant Wildlife”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

We have been timeshare owners at BRMR for the last 24 years and we did not trade this year but stayed during our week. The resort continues to be upgraded and it shows. The Wolf Suites are excellent! A few notes for potential new visitors: There is a shared BBQ area where visitors meet and cook together. It may seem odd not to have your own BBQ at each unit but the shared cooking location allows visitors to meet and mingle. The jog into town and back is on a safe paved path and works out to 5km round trip. Nice option for a workout. Bring bear spray!

Room Tip: Wolf Suites. Try to face into the woods not the street.

This hotel seems appealing from the pictures but its not such when you arrive. Some of the staff are very young and do not know how to handle guests but luckily we kept in contact with the manager. The place around the hotel is beautiful u can't go wrong in Banff I'd recommend checking bedding and all parts if your room as I used to work in Banff and this hotel has had a history of bed bugs. Please be careful if your rooms clean ur good but if u find anything out if order switch rooms immediately

Thank you for your comments. It is great that you used to work in Banff. It is a beautiful place. Bed bugs travel with people to hotels. Have we had bed bugs at the resort, yes. Is it a regular occurence, absolutely not. Our rooms are very clean and for your information bed bugs do not care whether rooms are clean or dirty. They like wood so they tend to hide behind head boards, wooden bed frames, bedside tables and electrical outlets. We have a preventative program in place and have rooms checked monthly by a pest control company and our housekeeping and maintenance staff check regularly as well. No matter how viligent we are it can happen in any hotel at any time. As we check often we have had very few instances where we have had bed bugs. We appreciate your comments.

We stayed in two bedroom condo whilst the condo is well equipped it was tired, dark & gloomy. The bedrooms where small. Each condo has a balcony but there is no privacy & other guests wandered onto ours. We had planned to eat in the restaurant but it is next to the pool & the smell of chlorine was over powering as we walked in so we walked straight out.The staff team were young & helpful. The shuttle into Banff was useful.

We had stayed in BRMR a few years back and loved the place so thought we would 'splurge' <not sure what that means for Banff> and booked a Jr. Queen Suite (#1013) for the final two days of our road trip before heading home. (Actual cost with taxes was $199.01 per night.) This complex is located in a gorgeous setting <will attach a pic> a few miles out of town so can be quite tranquil. A number of amenities are available <outdoor and indoor pool, childrens play area, casual restaurant, etc.> Staff were most charming as well! That being said the owners are going to have to put some money into upgrades <at least to that section we stayed in>. The concrete decking - while stable - has been crumbling as has the facing on the steps to the upper level. Peronally don't mind doing minor repairs <like at home> as had to fix the screen on one window to get it to say in - plus the fridge had been defrosted so had to empty the tray <spilled most on the carpet due to the lip> before turning it back on. As it was quite hot out had to leave the windows open as no AC - which is typical for many places in Banff and Jasper but something that also needs addressing with changing weather patterns. With the open windows it was quite noisy --- including one family who checked in at 1 AM and let there kids run around screaming <seriously> - guess they needed to wear off energy before attempting sleep which didn't work as could hear them inside their room as well !! (Not the hotels fault though as am sure many ignornant guests show up!) The first train that went by was quite charming --- by the fourth one not so much. What really turned us off though was the bed !! Was very soft and had two depressions where people are supposed to lay! Needless to say that was a deal-breaker for us so we cut our losses - checked out and headed home a day early! BRMR has SO much potential !! While personally can't recommend it am sure that your experience there will be much more satisfactory than ours was. Would suggest that, at a minimum, you check the bed before unloading your luggage !!

Room Tip: Check your room thoroughly before moving your luggage in.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about our resort. You did have lots of great things to say about the resort. You liked the location, the amenities offered and you found the staff charming. Your comment about the bed concerns me. The beds are all new and they have feather beds on top. It appears that the housekeepers need to do a better job of plumbing them up every day. We gladly would have removed them from the bed for you had we known you did not enjoy them. We hope that you will give us another try the next time you come to Banff.

My husband and I stayed in a 2 bedroom condo for a week in July. When we first checked in, I was a little disappointed-even though I had read the units were small, it felt closed in. However, once we settled in, it was fine; we really did not spend that much time there. We had an end unit (2 bedrooms are two story), so it was quiet and private. The kitchen, although small and sparsely furnished, was adequate for our needs . Bathrooms were nice, and the beds were very comfortable, but bedrooms are tiny. Not luxurious, but a few nice touches, like the beautiful granite.

We had a car, so the location outside of town worked well, and it is convenient to the highway. We did not eat at the restaurant or use any of the amenities, other than the laundry, which was nice. Bottom line-very small, so don't bring the maximum number of guests for the room size!. Also, because the resort is so large and there are several types of units, I think there is a big difference in the size, layout, and how updated they are, so I would suggest getting as much information as you can up front if you are planning to stay here.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at the resort. Yes, we do offer different room types at the resort. All the upstairs units are two bedrooms and the square footage is the same in all of them. The Wolf two bedrooms have slightly larger bedrooms as we have removed the closet in the upstairs hallway and were able to add a bit more space to each room when we did the renovations. We hope you have the opportunity to visit Banff again in the future.

I expected much more than we got here. The room was decent with 2 queen beds. As others have commented, wifi is practically non-existent. Cable reception was horrible too. Closed captioning was on when we turned on the TV and it didn't take long to figure out why. The hotel pool was small and the workout room was bad. Both treadmills were broken, the other equipment looked poorly maintained and there was trash sitting on the elliptical and bike. The stairs going up to our 1st floor unit were very poorly maintained. We live in a mountain resort area and this was certainly below what I had excepted for our dollars in Banff.

Thank you for your recent TripAdvislr review with specific examples of wheer we failed to meet your expecations on your recent visit. I sincerely apologize for the lapeses in the service. We appreciate hearing from all our guests and your comments will help us improve the service. We are currently replacing on the hardware on site for our wifi service. In addition, we have replaced some split cable which interupted the tevelevision feed in the block of rooms where the cable was split. We have ordered a new treadmill for the gym. All the equipment in the gym is service regularly and is maintaned. The exterior stairs do need painting after every winter. We are in the process of painting them now. Thank you again for your comments.

The positive things first:
1. BRMR is a nice distance from the busy-ness of Banff in the summer, and parking is free. (The town of Banff just switched to mostly paid parking on the street.) Although it's on the main road, it's fairly quiet at the resort.
2. Good size bathrooms, with both tub and shower. Everything worked. Nice size tub.
3. The staff is quite friendly and helpful.
4. The guided hikes are delightful, and we appreciated that they were offered for free, as was the shuttle to town.

The "not so great" at this resort:
1. Not having working internet for 4+ days made life difficult for our traveling group. Get a backup if your internet goes out frequently, as other reviewers have indicated it does. Maybe Banff itself is a tough place to have reliable internet.

2. The high summer temperatures in Banff this year, and no air conditioning in the unit, made sleeping challenging for at least 5 of our 6 nights here.

Sorry, BRMR, the small fans provided did not lower the temperature inside the unit. We had to sleep in 90+ Fahrenheit at night, and kept waking up in a sweat. What about swamp coolers- that would work well in this dry climate.
If temperatures are getting higher in this area in the summer, then this resort would be wise to adjust to climate change with either air conditioners or a swamp cooler.

3. We stayed in what was clearly NOT a remodeled unit. Though everything worked, and we had everything we needed, it was outdated, musty smelling, and the mattresses are in need of replacing. Beds were quite uncomfortable.

4. Bedrooms are extremely small, and windows are so small that you can't get proper ventilation to control the heat that builds up during the day.

5. We were rather surprised at the price of a bottle of water- $4.00! It must have had a gold leaf additive....

6. Stairs going up to the 2nd floor on the outside of the unit, looked like they would crumble at any moment.

We would probably look into alternate options in this area instead of this resort.

Room Tip: Away from the main road would probably be quieter.

We really appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at the resort. It was lovely to see that there were many things you enjoyed: the location, the size of the bathrooms and tubs, the guided hikes, shuttle servie and our friendly and helpful staff.
I did want to comment on some of your suggestions concerning improving the service. The beds are all new. They all have feather beds on top which many people find very comfortable and enjoy. Yes, it was hot during your stay. We will try and find better fans with a bit more power for next year. I have walked around the property checking the stairs to ensure we do not have a safety issue with a unit. They all appeared to be fine. The wifi hardware is all being replaced as I am writing this. This will greatly improve the service. The gatehouse building has good wifi service all the time. Thank you again for your review; we truly appreciate your comments and will use them to help improve the service we provide.
