“Great location but don't expect any sleep”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2008

We stayed early Dec 08 and in a 2 bed standard room. When we arrived the hotel looked pretty basic compared to the others we had passed with log fires etc however the location is fantastic right downtown. You get what you pay for with the room as it's on the lower end of the scale but the beds are comfy. However, I do not recommend that anyone stay in the standard room - if you're not kept awake by the ice-machines nearby and thin walls with people getting home at all hours and up at all hours, you will be kept awake by the heat in the room and lack of air circulation which resulted in quite a severe asthma attack. The cancellation is also 72 hours notice - so don't book in the first place - you'll regret it like we have!

We stayed at the Ptarmigan for 5 nights and found it as excellent base for exploring Banff and the surrounding area. We had a family room with 2 singles and 1 double bed. The room was very spacious and comfortable.

On our last night it was my wife's birthday and as a surprise I had arranged with our family for her birthday cards to be mailed directly to the hotel. I had contacted the hotel via email and asked them to keep the cards at reception and for them to be brought to our table that evening in the hotel restaurant.

They brought the cards after the main course and with a "cake" which was a lovely surprise for us all. The chef even made a special pizza for our 4 year old.

I have absolutely no complaints or gripes about the service or standards of the staff or hotel. We even had deer in the street the night before we departed. Your in the centre of town but on the edge of the wilderness.

I wrote a review in October 2008 and find it interesting that it has been deleted. We had a horrible stay at the Ptarmagin Inn and will never return! The hotel is old and in dire need of renovations. The room was so hot our baby could not sleep. When I mentioned it to the girl at the front desk she said that if we had stayed in one of the "superior" rooms we would have been cooler as the windows face outside. We stayed in a "standard" room which faced the courtyard (the courtyard was an empty room with a sofa and chair...tacky) I can only imagine what an inferno this hotel would be in the summer! I also filled in a review card and left it at the front desk, still waiting for a reply.

Must say we were more than thrilled with the hotel. We had breakfast there, we had a nice swim ,and we thank the staff for everything, we would tell anyone to go here.

We had stayed here before in 2003, but reading some of the reviews we were a little concerned, but we need not have been ,the staff were great and put themselves out for you, the rooms a good size and clean.,we stayed for three nights.
The bar area is great on cold nights, good crack with all the other visitors.
The hotel has a great location on the edge of the main street so easy access to all the atractions on foot.
If you want some where different for breakfast other than the hotel then try EVERLYN'S on the street towards the town centre, and ask for the "eggy thing" and they make a fantastic mug of tea.
We returned again for two nights at the end of our holiday and found the staff remembered us,and made us very welcome with a nice upgrade.
Good value for money and would return tomorrow.

The hotel is in the center of town and you can walk to many of the shops. The underground parking was secure. The restaurant was pleasant and the food good. Our room was on the third floor and sweltering. Luckily we had an window that opened to the outside and fan. We opened both windows and set the fan up right in front of one and left it on all night.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2008

We just finished a three night four day work team meeting at the Ptarmigan Inn. First let me say, the location of the hotel, is excellent. Right at the start of shopping, restaurants and entertainment on Banff Avenue. The hotel itself is a little older but makes up for its age with excellent staff, fantastic food and desire to make guests comfortable. They have underground parking for guests and an excellent bar/lounge with a mix of locals and tourists.
I would recommend the Ptarmigan Inn for work functions and extend your stay through the weekend for some fun.
