3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

The hotel was clean and the breakfast was satisfactory, but our room was only OK. There was no fan in the bathroom and it felt as though there were some ventilation issues in the room generally, which was really stuffy. That said, our beds were very comfortable and the staff was friendly. I wouldn't make this my first choice but for an inexpensive stay in Banff, there are worse properties.

We spent 2 nights here before travelling up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper. Our room had no outside window - the only one in our room opened on to an inner Atrium. Bit strange not knowing what weather etc was like... But room was clean, comfortable and adequate. As appears to be the custom in Canada, the wash basin was in the bedroom, not the bathroom. We had breakfast here both days, and it would have been quite good but they need more staff to top up the buffet. Guests were scrounging round looking for cereal bowls etc. We also eat here both nights (due to tiredness and pouring rain!) and both meals were excellent. All in all, an adequate hotel for a fair price, needs an update but ok despite that, its in a central position in Banff, has underground parking and a decent restaurant.

Spent one night at this hotel. Only a block north of where Banff Ave shopping starts so very convenient. In general the hotel is not bad. Looks like the bathrooms "may" have been upgraded with tile floors, new paint, etc. (at least the room we had) but the rest of the room was just standard. Also had dirty shower curtain, missing the plug in the sink...menial things like that but they still add to reno's being required. The carpets throughout the hotel are in dire need of replacement and the hallways could use some sprucing up too but in general...the rest was nice. Bed was not too firm but not "real" soft either...so, I would give it a passing grade. The one BIG saving grace was, whoever the maid was before we checked in, left the room in "spotless" condition...a very good job...well done!!! The staff also, were very nice from check-in to checkout. The FREE buffet breakfast had everything most would want. Bacon, REAL scrambled eggs (not powdered), sausages, cereals, yogurts, granola, breads, etc., was very tasty.

doing a road trip through the rocky's & stopped for 2 nights in Banff.

Hotel: situated in the middle middle of the centre of Banff. Free underground parking, free Wifi & free breakfast. The hotel has a warm "lodge" feeling. There is also a restaurant ( The Meatballs ) & bar situated in the hotel

Rooms: We had a room with an internal view. This was the only negative element of our stay. There is no fresh air & it is quite hot in the hotel / your room. The room has only a heater / no airco. For the rest: big room with 2 queen beds & with a big tele. Room was also very clean. We also had a balcony with view on the reception.

Breakfast: It was included. They make eggs on demand. Veggie omelet? No problem. Meat omelet? No problem! For the rest: standard breakfast - only don't touch the french viennoisserie.

Price / Quality: well this is certainly a four star hotel for me! Nice, big rooms. Very friendly personnel & some extras ( free bus shuttles & free public transport - free internet - very low phone costs )

Bar: super! Nice choise of beers. Could stay here all night
Restaurant: See my other review of meatballs. There are better places in Banff.

general conclusion; if you are searching a midd-class hotel this is the one! I will return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an outdoor view.

So maybe it's expensive everywhere in Banff. I chose this one because it is close in town, the price was fair, and it has free breakfast...but I was not impressed. First night we checked in late (11pm) due to being stuck on the highway for over 5 hours because of an accident. The front desk clerk looked like he was drunk or half asleep and was not very friendly. Our room was on the top floor (4th?) but had a balcony that overlooked the INSIDE rotunda. Who designs a hotel room with an INSIDE BALCONY??? The room was tidy but small and had a tiny bathroom, you'd have to stand sideways in order to close the door - not suitable for our family of 4! The room was also extremely hot, there was no A/C, only a couple of floor fans. You could get some air flow by opening the door to the INSIDE BALCONY but you'll just be hearing the traffic of people in the lobby (during the day) or you'll be hearing the staff vacuuming the carpets at night....I probably should have slept in the hallway because the airflow was much better there. Stay there for 2 nights and couldn't stand it anymore so I asked to be moved. Manager on duty was friendly and apologetic and we got moved to another room with an open balcony (but overlooked the parking lot...sigh). This hotel brags about the free "hot breakfast" but it isn't anything to write home about: hot cakes, sausages, greasy bacon. The omlette station was decent. I'd rather have a continental breakfast where they give you at least some fruit to balance off the grease. Overall, not impressed. Poorly designed hotel. Will not stay here again.

Stayed here this summer on a double date over a long weekend before heading to Jasper. Going to the mountains is an ideal road trip from Edmonton. We booked VERY last minute, taking 2 of the remaining three rooms available for our trip. Even though the hotel was packed, the room was always cleaned before we got back, the buffet breakfast was fully stocked, and the Free wifi was a nice touch. It seems less and less hotels are offering free wifi to customers now. Check in and out was easy. Be aware that the underground parking is VERY low. Our Land Rover had to be parked outside at the read of the building, don't try to drive into the underground parking until you've confirmed that you're the correct height. Buffet breakfast was really good quality. Really centrally located, it's very easy to find this hotel. For only $100ish a night this place was great value.
