“Weird layout”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Stayed here for three nights. Our room (208) was the strangest we have ever stayed in. Perfectly clean enough with comfy beds and good bed linen/towels but the sink was in the room itself and not in the bathroom where we would have expected to find it!! Unfortunately it appeared that the hotel was full so we were unable to change to another room. There was no plug in the sink and on the second attempt we were provided with one the correct size - the reason for this was that "people steal them" - really?? Proper cups in the room which was good after the paper ones provided by our last 3 hotels. Free Wi-Fi and ice machines. Buffet breakfast was adequate but not exciting. The staff were good on the first morning but not so great the next day. The third morning saw a return to their efficient ways. Overall it wasn't a bad place but I wouldn't stay in this type of room again so if this would annoy you too then it would be a good idea to bring up the subject before confirming your booking.

We loved this hotel. The breakfast was great, although it was the same every day. So we were there for four days and ate the same breakfast. Change would have been good, but at least I got something vegetarian. The manager, Chris (I think), was helpful the one time I saw him. Rooms were tidy and clean, provided enough towels and soaps (since we were a family of 8). I have to specifically call out Veronique since she kept up with our family for breakfast. Do make sure to ask for her when you go. KUDOS to Veronique! Also, I should mention Karly, and Chris who were helpful. So make sure to get in touch with these people. The front desk folks, forget the names, were also fantastic. The one I am not sure about is Johnny and maybe Pedra, both in the kitchen. I think they both need additional training. I hope I get the same or similar deals when I visit the next time.

Room Tip: When you ask for rooms with balcony, specifically ask them for rooms with balcony facing the mountai...

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay here. Lovely spacious room with 2 double beds & TV, iron, hair dryer etc. we had a balcony over looking the mountains very pretty. Free parking & easy, elevator quick & very comfy room. The only hitch was we were woken a couple of times by hooting trains! Breakfast was very nice but service slightly slow. Great location easy walk to shops & eateries. We had a most enjoyable & memorable visit.

Room Tip: Ask for room with external balcony & view.

While visiting relative's we decided to take a break in banff for a couple of nights and found the ptarmigan to be a geat place in a great location. The room was a standard and was clean and comfortable, the staff were warm and friendly. We liked it so much we revisited the following week for a few nights and were rewarded with an upgraded. Would like to say thanks for making it a great stay and thanks to the staff Denice,Adam,Hugo,Amy and all the other staff. Hope have a great summer. Mark + keith

We stayed a recent Friday night at this hotel and chose it due to the reviews, location and price. The location is excellent, at the end of the main tourist area which means it was quiet, yet we could walk through the whole downtown area and enjoy the atmosphere. The price was also quite reasonable but we got what we paid for.
This is an older property that has been well maintained but is definitely not up to current standards. My first impression was that the hallways were narrow, not allowing 2 baggage carts to meet. Once we got to our room, the space was quite limited although not a major concern for a one night stay and most of our time spent outside the room. The biggest disappointment was no mini-fridge which I've come to take for granted in North American rooms for a decade or more. There was a cabinet under the modern flat screen TV with space for the fridge but it was empty.
The saving feature was the included breakfast. The was excellent with a great variety of hot and cold selections, an omelet bar and eggs cooked the way you wanted. There may have been waffles but I didn't make it that far after enjoying bacon, sausage and 2 types of scrambled eggs at the buffet. The breakfast staff were friendly and welcoming, offering plenty of coffee and being very attentive keeping tables clear.
On check out, we were told that the property will be undergoing another major renovation in the near future so we may check into this hotel again. Very clean and all the staff were accommodating.

Room Tip: Ask for an outside view room. The inside courtyard is a bit bland and not as much fresh air.

We stayed here for one night and it was great for the price we paid. It is in a great location on Banff Ave and the breakfast was pretty good. The only thing we didn't like about our room was that we didn't have a window facing outside, there was only a small balcony to a courtyard inside the hotel.

This rating is mainly for the price we paid and the location. Our room was tired and are in need of air con, the staff were ok and the breakfast although very average was still enough to keep us going for a few hours.
