“Very convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We usually try to stay outside crowded areas, but Banff seemed like a must. It is very cute if you ignore all the tour buses. Our hotel was right in the heart of this little city within walking to shops and restaurants. When checking in you receive a code for their underground lot behind the hotel. The parking spaces were right next to the elevator. The lobby is very nicely decorated in mountain motif with several river rock fireplaces. There is a lounge, restaurant, and gift shop right within this area. If you want tickets for any of the most popular attractions, they could be bought there. The front desk staff were very helpful, creating directions for us. The room was very spacious with all the necessities one would want. Also comfy bedding. If you need wifi, you will be disappointed. It only worked in the lobby. It was cold when we visited, so we did not care that there was no air conditioning. The food at the restaurant was good, especially the breakfast; however it was very slow on one of our visits. This was a fine place to stay just not memorable.

Room Tip: We were very close to the elevator which was nice.

We stayed at the Banff International hotel for 6 nights. The hotel is placed directly on the main street in very close vicinity to almost anything in Banff - so this was a good thing.

The first two nights were placed very close to a very noisy aircondition outside our window (rooms 416, 417, 516, 517 will encounter this). We asked for another room and got moved to a much better room - great service! Please notice that the rooms don't have aircondition but only some old ceiling fans, WiFi is essentially not working and that it's a fairly old facility. We recommend that you remember to get all your stuff with you when checking out - it's impossible to get in touch with the hotel lost and found, Brewster Travel does not respond to mails and the official hotel mail address is invalid. The only way to get your forgotten items is to go back to the hotel.

We stayed for two nights in this hotel and it was good. We had a loft with enough space for 3 adults and 2 children (12 and 13 of age). The lobby of the hotel looks very nice and the staff is friendly. The room was clean. The inside of the hotel room is a little outdated but nothing to worry about.
The hotel is in the located in Banff center and that's great, also the underground parking is a good service.
With kids of this age WiFi is one of the most imported things these days. Too bad that the WiFi connection in the room is very poor. The WiFi connection in the lobby is excellent so they spend some time in the lobby during our stay. Better WiFi in the room would have made me give the "full" points for this stay.

Starting with the positive, the BIH has a great location right at the edge of the Banff shopping area. The staff are friendly but don't really put themselves out -- just the basics. The hotel looks great from the street, and the lobby is engaging, much like what you see in the Tripadvisor pic. But that's about it -- just about everything else is terrible. We would definitely find an alternative the next time we go to Banff. Specifics -- the furniture in our hotel room was old, stained and uncomfortable. The wifi did not work. In our loft room, the upstairs TV was an old style CRT with a non-functioning remote control. My sense is that the management do everything on the cheap. Even the paper products (tissue, toilet paper....) are the cheapest possible. Real junk.

I complained to the staff about the wifi and they acknowledged that it barely works in the rooms. They recommended doing internet stuff in the lobby (seriously? this is 2014, right?). I was also told that the hotel is under new management and improvements would be forthcoming. But given the cheap maintenance practices currently in place, I am very skeptical. I pointed out that their website boasting in room wifi borders on false advertising -- the desk staff did not disagree. I was tempted to ask for a partial refund.

The restaurant in the lobby -- Ricky's -- is a bit bizarre. Case in point -- under Burgers, they list a bunch of options (bacon-cheese burger, mushroom burger), but if you want a plain cheeseburger, you have to order the bacon-cheese but without the bacon. Lots of other weird combinations for breakfast and dinner. I'm pretty sure that if it did not benefit from the hotel guests, it would be out of business in a few months. Slow service, okay staff.

Between family and work travel, I am in hotels 8 - 10 times per year. This was one of the worst hotels I've experienced in a long time. I recommend avoiding at all possible costs.

Dated and shabby. First night spent in their updated experimental room. Stark white everything-- cold and sterile. No towel bars or toilet paper holder. Small bathroom with no counter space. Shower handheld will blast you across the room! No air conditioning and it was hot and hard to sleep. No comfortable chairs, terrible lighting. Awful. Moved to regular room next night. Dated and shabby, but clean. No air. Lost power in room on last morning and had wet heir and a bus to catch at 7:45 am. Told maintenance was offsite and they would get to us when they could. Unacceptable. Finally insisted on another room so we could finish getting ready. Staff was friendly and helpful and beds were comfortable. Second room had 2 sinks which was nice.

Room Tip: Wifi in rooms was hard to connect--really needed to go to lobby. No air conditioning and only 1 win...

Stayed a total of 5 nights on our return to Banff and very pleased with our choice, staff very friendly and helpful, underground parking a big plus, bar and restaurant very good and location perfect for evening stroll to the pubs and restaurants, also a good steam room sauna and hot tub plus a big bonus was the laundry room as we had travelled a lot and had a lot of washing! Only real downside was lack of air con although the overhead fan worked well,

Basic stay, basic room. Rooms seems to be dated back to the 80s, 90s style. Airconditioning is not available, making it good only for Spring, Winter travel i guess. Rooms tends to be a bit more noisy at night as the other folks makes their way back, guess they need sound proofing.

Dear reccakusanagi

Thank you for your recent review of the Banff International Hotel

First and foremost we certainly recognize some of our weaknesses, that our rooms are dated and that we have a lack of air conditioning (an issue shared by the majority of Banff hotels).

We do have major renovations planned for the coming year to address both these concerns and we hope perhaps we will be able to welcome you back to one of our renovated rooms in the future.
