Just returned back from 1 week skiing in Banff staying at the Banff International Hotel.

Previous reviews left me wondering if this hotel was a good place to have booked.

So here it goes:

The hotel is very central and excellent base to explore from.

The staff were very friendly and the service received was good.

The hotel is both clean and functional although the decore is in a time warp (70's) although this is true of all the hotels we saw in Banff. May be it's in keeping with the rustic charms of the area.

We could not hear any trains from inside the hotel as per other reviews! as the tracks seemed a long way from the hotel.

As a base for a ski trip, could not have asked for much more. Huge room and beds, clean and tidy. Pleasant and friendly staff.

Excellent location as its right at the central part of town next to all shops/restaurants and ski coach pick up.

We got free wi-fi, 24hour coupons but as many as you want.

Breakfast was fine but only ate in the hotel twice as there are many other places in town to try.

Will definitely stay here again.

We stayed for one night at the Banff International Hotel. It's centrally located, on the main street in Banff, Banff Ave. Its location is one of the best points. It's also a clean hotel, and the rooms were spacious. We had a room with two queen size beds. The beds were hard, the pillows were great. Our room was near the elevators, so it was noisy-- we heard people coming and going during the wee hours. That was the worst part of the hotel. In the morning, we walked to get a coffee nearby and saw two deer in front of the hotel-- it was very cool and very surreal. They were outside, smelling around a tree. Parking was a bit of a challenge, we drove a truck and it just barely fit in their underground parking. It's more suitable for cars than large trucks due to height restrictions. Overall, we received fair value for our room. Everything is expensive in Banff, so the $178 Cdn we paid was probably a fair price compared to other spots.

Stayed here a few years ago, but booked to come back next year.
I am sure the hotel itself has changed a little, but location is great in the centre of banff with easy access to ski bus and amenities of Banff. Rooms big and airy, although basic and views are a bit hit and miss, but you are there for location and being surrounded by the Rockies is a great experience.
