“Great Stay in the Rockies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Siding 29 Best Western in Banff. Nice to be at the end of town as it was quieter and you were within walking distance to anything. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need. The breakfast room was bright and the food selection was numerous from hot to cold and loved the fresh fruit bar. Would recommend this stay to anyone heading to the Banff area. Safe underground parking was nice too. Thanks again.

This was a two night stay in Banff, Alberta with one night free using a BW voucher. The motel is centrally located in Banff, and it made for an easy walk to shop and eat. Free parking was underground with room key operation. Easy access to elevator, stairs and indoor pool. The staff helped me gain access to wifi and locate restaurants. The breakfast room was busy as expected, but well staffed; the food was good, both hot or cold, and all you could eat. My room was clean, comfortable and quiet; no complaints with this motel, especially since I used a "free night voucher". If one is using a voucher I would recommend coordinating this directly with the hotel ahead of time. I did and things went smooth.

I stayed here with my family of three during our vacation to the Canadian Rockies this summer. I don't typically stay in Best Westerns but in a town with very few name brand hotels, this is a fine choice. The rooms are quite large and nice, and I'd definitely call the property "upscale" for a Best Western. Each room has a small balcony which is nice for sitting outside in the evenings and watching some occasional wildlife walk by. The beds were reasonably comfortable and we slept well during our stay. Location is fine - maybe a 15 or 20 minute walk to the heart of downtown Banff - and there are plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance.

The complementary breakfast was "ok" - sufficient but not spectacular by any means. They had sausages, your typical "hotel scrambled eggs" cooked en masse and served in a chafing dish, pancakes (also prepared en masse), pastries, fruit, and yogurt. The biggest comment I would have about the breakfast is a little variety would be nice. They serve pretty much exactly the same thing every day and it would be nice to see a different item or two to chose from each morning if you're on a multiple day stay. Also, the breakfast room is quite small, so finding a table is sometimes challenging.

The hotel has an indoor pool but it is quite small, and it's enclosed in a glass structure. If you're sitting there just supervising a child and not swimming yourself it gets rather steamy in there. Also, due to the small size of the room they don't keep towels poolside, so you have to bring towels from your room. Still, it was nice to have a pool and jacuzzi to cool our heels in after a long day of hiking in the park.

This was actually our second stay in this hotel, the first one being almost 8 years ago, so we clearly found it worthy of a repeat visit. We will strongly consider this hotel on our next visit to Banff.

I think the air conditioner thermostat was just a placebo to make you think the room was cooling off, because it did not. There was a table fan in the room - so I think they are very aware of the problem. Probably a good place to stay for a winter/skiing holiday, but summer experience was not a comfortable sleep. Breakfast room WAYYY TOO SMALL for the number of guests in the hotel. They served on glass plates - nice touch - but most people had to take the food back to their rooms to eat. I feel sorry for the cleaning staff, who have to clean dishes out of the rooms in addition to the rest of their housekeeping. We ate in the lobby - uhh, awkward!

We originally booked the Standard Room Plus. It was supposed to be for six people. When we arrived, we found this room had no windows that would open. Instead, the westward facing fixed windows overlooked the indoor pool. All of the heat and humidity from the pool and from the sun poured into the room. The staff kept the curtains closed in order to try to lower the temperature, but even so, the air conditioner was not adequate. This resulted in a very hot and dark room. We called the front desk and they sent maintenance to look at the air conditioner. Maintenance said it was working, but obviously not well enough. The staff did not offer us a different room. We had to request it. They moved us to a standard room with two roll away beds which was much more spacious. Unfortunately, it was also on the west side and opened to the sidewalk where the exterior painters banged against the windows when they started working the next morning. One of the pillows and comforters on one of the queen beds had stains. One of the blankets on a roll-away had stains and was torn in several places. The kleenex box had been sitting in water and was stained. The outlet was controlled by the switch so when you turned the main light out, the night light also turned off. There were places on the baseboards and countertop that had not been cleaned. Toward the end of the evening, it was extremely difficult to squeeze into the parking garage. There was not enough seating for breakfast although the outside seating area was very nice. After our experience with the evening staff and the air conditioner, we did not bother to mention the dirty and torn items until the next morning when there was a different lady at checkout. She was much more friendly and did offer a small adjustment to our bill.

Had a good stay at this hotel. The price was reasonable and the staff was helpful and hard-working, but I suspect they were a bit under-staffed during our stay. They rooms were great, but the sofa bed was atrocious...but our boys endured that one night. The other 2 queen beds were great. We were treated to a tasty full breakfast...not just a continental style like most other hotels. I would recommend this hotel when staying in Banff.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the pool. Ours was 305 and we were above the pool and the kids made noises...
