I stayed here with my family of three during our vacation to the Canadian Rockies this summer. I don't typically stay in Best Westerns but in a town with very few name brand hotels, this is a fine choice. The rooms are quite large and nice, and I'd definitely call the property "upscale" for a Best Western. Each room has a small balcony which is nice for sitting outside in the evenings and watching some occasional wildlife walk by. The beds were reasonably comfortable and we slept well during our stay. Location is fine - maybe a 15 or 20 minute walk to the heart of downtown Banff - and there are plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance.
The complementary breakfast was "ok" - sufficient but not spectacular by any means. They had sausages, your typical "hotel scrambled eggs" cooked en masse and served in a chafing dish, pancakes (also prepared en masse), pastries, fruit, and yogurt. The biggest comment I would have about the breakfast is a little variety would be nice. They serve pretty much exactly the same thing every day and it would be nice to see a different item or two to chose from each morning if you're on a multiple day stay. Also, the breakfast room is quite small, so finding a table is sometimes challenging.
The hotel has an indoor pool but it is quite small, and it's enclosed in a glass structure. If you're sitting there just supervising a child and not swimming yourself it gets rather steamy in there. Also, due to the small size of the room they don't keep towels poolside, so you have to bring towels from your room. Still, it was nice to have a pool and jacuzzi to cool our heels in after a long day of hiking in the park.
This was actually our second stay in this hotel, the first one being almost 8 years ago, so we clearly found it worthy of a repeat visit. We will strongly consider this hotel on our next visit to Banff.
