“Virgin cowboy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

Went on the Lunch ride, one hour ride- one hour barbecue and horseshoes followed by one hour ride back to stables. Great until the horse trotted. Good old Ryan was a good experience to ride at my first attempt, not enough to convince me to take it up.Thanks to Vera the outrider support, if there is a next time I shall take some inflatable device. I had a choice of playing the local golf course instead gained brownie points by going riding with my beloved.

“Incredible two days in the wilderness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

I did the Two-day overnight trip to Sunshine Lodge with 5 friends and absolutely loved it. The staff were extremely professional and friendly, cooking us amazing food at each meal and tending to our horses. I would advise anyone considering this trip, to spend some time on a horse beforehand, to see if they would be ok with 10 hours in the saddle over the two days.

The Sunshine Lodge is a true gen and only accessible by foot/horse/helicopter! No permanent power, only solar power which is great for escaping the hectic outside world.

I was most impressed with their inclusiveness the first evening, encouraging everyone around the camp fire for s'mores and a sing-song. The Lodge warden and a couple of the "cowboys" brought out their guitars and mandolin and passed around a book of songs to choose from. Paired with a hip-flask and a starry night it was thoroughly enjoyable.

“Great 3-hour trail ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

My spouse and I signed up for 3 hour trail ride. We ended up being the only two so went out with two guides. Horses matched to riders by weight. Horses were very well trained, handling somewhat muddy and slippery trails from overnight rains. Guides gave sufficient information but let us enjoy ride without a lot of talk. On the ride, saw a black bear and some deer. Also saw views would not have seen on foot or by car. Had seen earlier reviews of mainly one hour ride which would not have been long enough to get true experience with guides or horses or to cover sufficient terrain. 3hour ride was perfect amount of time.

“Horseback Ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

The one hour horseback ride is a fun way to explore the trails around Banff. The team was friendly and gave enough guidance but it would've been nice if they were a little more informative especially for the ones in the group who had never ridden before. The horses were fairly well trained although some of them need a bit more encouragement than others. Overall an enjoyable experience.

“Will come back again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

We selected a 1 hour ride leaving from the Fairmont. After a slight mix up with our reservation, they happily allowed us to ride at the hour we were promised. Very happy!! The staff seem to love the horses, they are well fed and very well taken care of, which was really important to me. They were also very knowledgeable having years of experience with horses. Liz was one of our tour guides and she wS excellent! We chatted the whole way and made us feel like we were old friends catching up over a horse ride. Crossing Bow river was the highlight as well as the other beautiful views. We will return and bring our kids along for the next ride. Thanks again Liz!!!
