“A little awkward but great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We stayed one night at the end of June on a roadtrip.
First off the location is great.
Right on the main street in Banff and walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc.
Its awkward because of a couple of reasons. One the parking is a couple blocks away and two, to get to the room, you take an elevator which you need a key for.
Reception staff were all nice. After a certain hour, the lobby is locked off... makes us wonder 'what terrible thing happened?'....
The room was clean but the sofa and carpet looked aged and dingy... we wouldn't touch the sofa and we kept our flip flops on. It was quiet. No issues.
There are no frills with the room. No coffee pot...
It was ok for us for the one night.

Banff is pricey, and unless you are staying in a hostel, the prices at this hotel are your best budget option. The location is great. The rooms are basic but adequate, especially considering what budget means in other areas of the world. Lots of jacks for charging electronics, cable, flat screen tv, coffee maker, good bed and shower, excellent hot water, self-adjusted room temperature, etc. Sure the room isn't huge, but if you are spending your time in Banff inside, you're doing it wrong! Front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, rooms were spotless. The hotel has a microwave on the third floor, which is extremely helpful for budget travellers! I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you are a very light sleeper, request a room on the top floors or facing the back of the hotel.

The hotel is on the second floor of a retail building. Very old building but maintained well. Parking was a little disconcerting since we had to park in a free public ramp about a block away. It meant having to carry all of our luggage from the ramp to the hotel. The room was very small but we were only there for the night so it was fine. It is located right in the heart of the tourist area.

We spent three nights at this property and loved being in the middle of downtown Banff. We did enjoyed the charm of an older property. Rooms are adequate but clean. We had no problem with noise but that could be due to the fact that it was not high season. The staff is very friendly. We had a problem with the coffee maker the first night. The front desk person ended up bringing two different ones up until we found one that worked. They also left us some snacks and bottled water on our last night which was much appreciated. Overall a pleasant stay. If you are looking for luxury this is not for you but great if you want a clean room in a good location.

Me and my boyfriend decided to go to Banff as a mini getaway. We spent two days and one night in Banff and decided that with our budgets, the King Edward Hotel would suit our needs. The location is VERY convenient as it is right in the middle of downtown Banff. Just down the block there was a Lululemon and many other clothing stores. Parking is a little inconvenient as you have to walk about a block to get to the parkade for hotel guests but we did not mind as it gave us a chance to explore. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming...not to mention they were very helpful and more than happy to assist my boyfriend who wanted to have rose petals spread out on the bed! Our room had one queen bed and it our view looked out onto the main downtown street which was nice! The rooms weren't over the top or anything special but did the trick for us as we weren't spending much time there, but instead exploring! Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to spend more time out of the hotel than in!

The too small bed, room are very very small, and very over priced. At over $350 a night far a small room & too small bed . There are other Hotel close to downtown for a lot cheaper with too twin bed. They put some brown foam on top of the bed too make theme more comfortable, but it give you a bad feeling, if you know what I mean. I ting its time for them too buy new bed. The room as only too very small window 1Ft, wide. Considering that we were there for the view. Remember too book early. Banff is a tourist destination.

The King Edward is located in hub of activity in downtown Banff. This location, although convenient, can be noisy since it's right on the main street The hotel is quite old, showing its age, and the rooms are in need of upgrades. The lobby is not staffed during the late night hours. Secured parking for an additional $5 is quite reasonable. Parking for check-in, check-out can be a challenge.
