“Magical!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

We rented some crampons in Banff and headed out (without a tour group or guide) in the late morning to view what can only be described as magical! The pathway is very slippery as it is not maintained in the winter months, so I strongly suggest crampons to avoid what will be numerous slips and falls! The canyon is beautiful in the summer and spectacular in the winter. Make the extra effort to go the Upper Falls and enjoy! Bring a sandwich and a thermos and just take it in! You won't regret it!

“Fantastic scenery and loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I love Johnston Canyon. The trail here goes into the canyon and there are gantry's that you go out on above the river in the canyon. There are three stages to the hikes here, the first one goes to a waterfall. You can go into a cave and see the water fall, as it changed its path. You can then walk to the second set of falls, which are pretty nice. The last leg of the hike is uphill and brings you to the ink pots. This is fantastic, you are in a valley, surrounded on all sides by rocky mountains. No roads, no cars, no noise. Just you and nature. The ink pots are also pretty special, ranging from greens and blues to purples. If you don't mind a 5km hike, then it is well worth it.

“Beautiful, Amazing, Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

This is an amazing place to go and take in how beautiful nature can be. On the way to the falls we saw a few moose. Once we got there the guide was great with providing information and first hand knowledge about the canyon. Overall the sight was one of the highlights of our trip to Canada. Pictures are better later in the day as the sunlight makes the pictures come out better.

“Family Fav”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We just happened upon the trail driving around back roads looking to explore the views. It was Feb and the trail was covered in snow and ice which made it difficult and more challenging withour the walking sticks and cleat covers we ween some walkers who were on an excursion with. but never the less we hiked the entire trail holding onto the handrails and all...

The waterfalls were frozen sculptures of pure beauty and worth the icy trek... we need to experience them another time in the summer months to see thier full roaring beauty. We could hear the water roaring behind the frozen falls which was anaing as well. there are little alcoves feels like your in caves along the way and we snapped a ton of pictures the entire hike up... this is a deff part of the ebtire Banff experience if you get there!!!
