“Grey heads”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

We are pensioners who enjoy eating out in peaceful surroundings. The atmosphere in the Tickled Trout is calm and friendly and we felt most welcome. Our food was simple English cooking of an excellent standard served with a charming smile, followed by substantial sweets. We were most pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices. Living only five miles away, this pub is now firmly on our list of places for us to eat out.

“Lack of country pub atmosphere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We were staying in the Peak District for a long weekend and booked a table for a family meal early on Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly, service was excellent and the food very good.

However we were slightly disappointed with the atmosphere of the pub - it just seemed a little quiet and lacked that country pub feel.

Despite that slight criticism we still enjoyed our evening at the Tickled Trout.

“Good quality food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

As a family we enjoy eating out a lot! However, we are cautious about what we eat and expect good quality and healthy options. We stayed locally for a weeks holiday and visited for drinks on two nights and dinner on a third. The landlord could not have done more for us, even when all the other customers had left he stayed open just for us. The food was delicious, and very reasonably priced and the chef (Anna?) even came out to check we were enjoying our meals. I would certainly recommend this restaurant and would visit again if we are ever up in that part of the country. Unfortunately I cannot take the negative comments, offering just one 'star', seriously as I genuinely believe these to be untrue. Customer service and good food all in a friendly atmosphere. Try it yourself!

“Good value and perfectly cooked food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

This pub has reopened recently and the young couple in charge are friendly helpful and enthusiastic about their new venture. It is not gourmet food but there is a good choice of food from grills, roasts and a specials board and the usual pub grub menu. I had steak which was cooked exactly as I requested and was very tender. The price for the surf and turf with chips salad and the usual trimmings was £12.95. Fantastic value as I had the same dish elsewhere a few days before and that cost £17.95. So excellent value. The house wine was £6.99 a bottle which you might pay for a large glass anywhere else and whilst not a special wine it was certainly palatable. The real ale was also very reasonable at £2.20 a pint not sure how long these prices will remain but they certainly deserve a chance to succeed in this lovely village. The Sunday night we visited the place was quiet hence the lower rating for atmosphere but had we visited at lunchtime the same day it would probably have been busy.

“OBVIOUSLY KARAOKE COMES FIRST!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Went to the trout on Saturday 15th June to try karaoke out. Me and my partner hadnt eaten all day so we were looking forward to a good meal for our tea, we arrived at 7.45pm, had a drink each and then decided to order our meals about 10 past 8 on,y to be told that they had stopped serving food at 8pm normally they stop serving at 9pm. When we questioned them about this we were told that they had finished serving food early because of the karaoke. We then asked Paul (landlord) why there was no sighns or posters up telling people they had stopped serving food at 8pm, he just gave us a blank look and walked away. 10 minutes later he comeback and apologised and said "I will do you both a dish of chips LATER" and I replied "that is not a proper meal" to which he said "I wasn't going to charge you for them anyway" (YIPPEE!) It wouldn't have been so bad if he had offered us a sandwich and chips but he didn't. We decided to stay for another drink and go upstairs to see what the karaoke was like. After another hour we had to ASK if we could have the 2 dishes of chips, after finding out the landlord was outside having a cigarette and saying he would do the chips when he came back in. We decided the service was appalling and abandoned the chips and went home to cook some tea ourselves. We shall never go in for food again, the service has really deteriorated since they first took the pub over. Very disappointed.
