“Go for it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

Lee and Sam and their extended family have built this amazing place from scratch - beautiful barn conversions, a 25m heated outdoor pool, friendly children, cat, dog and goats, plus garden in a sleepy Loire village. Nothing seems too much trouble with three wholesome home cooked meals a day (plus afternoon tea and cake) and all the expert support you're ever likely to need. Lee's a real pro when it comes to bike adjustments too.
I booked in as part of our local Tri club's training camp so we had our own coaches, but they also take individual bookings and if you let Sam know what you're looking for, they'll suggest dates that will slot you in with like minded people. Families welcomed too. My husband came along and enjoyed the food, walking the family's dog, reading and following his more gentle exercise routine. One of the most worthwhile holidays I've ever taken. A highlight was day 3 when we did a 50k flat bike ride to a lake, half hour open water swim (thanks to £20 wetsuit from Ebay!) and return bike ride - I'd never have thought I could do it!

A perfect holiday for beginners to experts.
My wife and I went for a week in August 2011 and loved every minute. I had completed 5 tri's before we went but my other half, Em, had done nil. Em was worried that she wouldn't fit in because everyone would be super serious and would get annoyed that she would hold people up. How wrong she was. From the moment we arrived we both felt at home. Lee & Sam are perfect hosts and the other guests were sooooo much fun. The facilities are there to go mental and train like a nutter, pounding out the miles on the bike, on foot, in the water, or alternatively you can chill out and have glass of wine whilst relaxing in the lovely garden between trips to the sauna and dips in the endless training pool. We both got so much out of the holiday, training wise and socially. Em ended up falling in love with swimming, the discipline she was most scared of and I loved the quiet country roads and endless glasses of red wine. We had a great mix of guests, from novices to people that had swum in the nationals, all of us learnt something and got on like a house on fire. I think this was because of the brilliant atmosphere Sam & Lee created with the cosy accommodation, wonderful food and endless bottles of wine. We are gutted we cant make it back in 2012 but have penciled in a week in 2013. Looking forward to swimming in the new pool.

I wanted a week's training camp and after some web based research, I found Tri-topia and from the initial e-mail to check availability the customer service and contact was excellent.
I was travelling alone and Lee agreed to collect me from the airport, a service that they offer, much easier than hiring a car you won't use all week. I met with of the other athletes at the airport who was returning for a 2nd time. Lee made me feel welcome and he ran through the plans for the week on the journey across to Tri-topia

When I boooked I was advised that as I was a single traveller that I would be sharing a room, being an ex-rugby player this was not an issue for me. When we arrived I was given the 'suite' above the gym and sauna with my own (i had to share with the other athletes) endless pool in the garden.
After a quick coffee and homemade cake with Sam, Olly, Amy and the other athletes we headed off out for a swim in the river which was fantastic.
The week went by in a flash with everyday carefully planned and with Lee, Sam, Olly and Amy looking after us it was very easy to relax, the hammocks in the garden helped for some downtime.
Mealtimes are communal, the food is great with the red wine flowing and great conversation.
If you want quiet roads for cycling, lakes and rivers for swimming, some beautiful paths for running coupled with hospitality that makes you feel like you are staying with old friends at their home then Tri-Topia is the place for you.
Lee will push you as hard as you want and maybe a little more when it comes to training and has a wealth of knowledge he passes on.
The optional massage was most welcome and i took the opportunity to do some additional 1:1 swim training with Graham the swim coach extrodinare
I will be heading back to Tri-Topia in 2012 to catch up with 'old friends'

Like the other reviews suggest this is a real jewel. Endurance athletes - but not just endurance athletes - should try to get there as soon as possible before so many of us are beating a path to Lee and Sam's front door that they have to start turning people away.
Just a couple of points to stress, both of them already made elsewhere.
The holidays are 'full board' but that is not even a half, perhaps not even a quarter, of the full story. Lee, ably supported by Sam, is a professional chef and it certainly shows. In some ways it was a shame going to rural France and not hunting around for that perfect little French restaurant hidden away somewhere. But there was no point. You would just be left worrying about what part of Lee and Sam's repertoire you might be missing!
The other is about the surrounding area. This is not a particularly high profile or heavily visited corner of France - witness the comments here, and on other sites, about the deserted roads and the tranquillity. But, just as with Tri-topia itself it seems, it's a well kept secret. We Brits notoriously colonise large swathes of the Dordogne and Provence especially, but here, on the border of the 'Vienne' and 'Indre et Loire’, there are countless sites of historical interest, several beautiful rivers meandering through the rolling countryside and it's far enough south for reliable weather for long periods of the year. Angles sur Anglin and Chauvigny, for example, are just two of the breathtakingly dramatic small towns within easy reach. Meanwhile St Savin, just 20 minutes cycling away (10 for Lee), has a UNESCO listed 11th Century Abbey.
Staggering.

A friendly well run training holiday, fabulous food - breakfast lunch and dinner, very flexible with meal times enabling athletes to maximise their triathlon training, and excellent quality for athletes who are burning up calories. Great facilities for all three disciplines, river, lake and endless pool swims, good empty roads with a variety of rides, well marked local runs of varying distances and terrains. We will definately be going again.

We spent one wonderful week at Tri-Topia. Our hosts, Sam and Lee were so accommodating, the food was great, better than one could ever expect from a fully catered holiday, with fresh bread baked daily, every meal cooked from fresh, with locally sourced produce, all full of flavour. We even had homemade sausages which Lee had made from their own home reared pig! The gite is quaint, well equipped with wifi, satellite TV, all mod cons, and all rooms ensuite, with patios or balconies. Meals are either served in the kitchen or on the patio, and I believe BBQs abound in the summer months. The gite is set in rolling, unspoilt countryside, amidst a mass of lakes, a maze of deserted roads and trails, and is close to three local pools. We hired bikes at Tri-Topia, because of the expense of transporting the bikes over two flights, but Lee was meticulous in the set up, and accompanied us on several long rides, keeping us in check, and pointing out the local sights. The lakes were still cold in April, but fine for wetsuit swimming. It was a pleasure to wake up every morning to great food, a relaxing atmosphere, sun on the patio, an unknown route ahead, and when you got home at night, fabulous food served and someone else to clean up. Whether you want to train or not, Tri-Topia is an excellent holiday. It is an athlete's dream, but in addition it is a great holiday, with two of the nicest people we have ever met. Get it booked!
