“An elegant resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

My husband and I stayed via an AI Costco travel package Dec 8-15. It was a slow time before gearing up for the holidays and we nearly had the resort to ourselves. We had a 1 bedroom villa, and when we walked into the room, it was clear this was the nicest place I had ever stayed. All the furniture was solid (we tried to move the coffee table a little closer to the couch and it must have weighed at least 300 lbs!). Real plants are used to decorate the patio area, bathrooms and outdoor hallways. Everything about the room/view was absolutely perfect! It is a very elegant resort.

The staff was amazing (from the concierge, to the bellmen, housekeepers, waiters, bartenders, pool assistants…)! Of course, they were 100% professional, but what made the difference was that they genuinely seemed interested in us/our experiences/our preferences, etc. They really treated us as friends. We never heard “no” once during our entire visit at VLE, and felt like VIPs. We had planned the trip as a birthday celebration, and the staff surprised me with birthday cake, special drinks, a card and even singing! They made it a very special day for me!

I felt very safe at VLE—upon entering or exiting by car, we were signed in/out at the gated entrance and the drivers had to give some sort of ID/registration number. There’s a 24 hour security staff at the beach entrance as well. For the villas, each has a beautiful metal gate which requires a card key before accessing either the A/B villa front door entrances.

We had our option of 5 dining locations (La Casona, pool restaurant, and the deli market at VLE as well as the Italian and Mexican restaurants at Flamingos), however we did become a little tired of the food by the end or our visit (maybe it was just over indulgence…). La Casona had wonderful presentation; the salmon entree and mushroom ravioli were great, the fish tacos were very good at the pool, and the deli was a nice surprise with great green juice, a wonderful vegie wrap and very good desserts (also, keep an eye out for the iguanas!). The market was handy to pick up “in room” beverages, as AI only includes restaurant on site food and drinks, and the room is too nice not to enjoy a drink at sunset. Room service is available with a 15% charge.

I had a facial at the spa which was very nice. The hydrotherapy pools looked wonderful, and after a spa service you can use them during your stay at VLE, but I booked the facial at the end our visit and didn’t have the chance to go back. So, I recommend you book the spa early. (There are separate men and women’s pool facilities; clothing is optional, but in the woman’s section, everyone was wearing swimsuits.)

With an AI option and 2 people, it would be easy to go with the studio villa, as the two of us hardly used the kitchen or the living area in 1 bedroom unit. However the 1 bedroom unit had a lovely whirlpool bathtub (which our turn-down/evening housekeeper prepared with bubbles and flowers!) and a washer and dryer, which was handy. We did not spend much time at Flamingos (the hot tub was nice for later in the evening as VLE tubs close ~9 pm), and wish we would have asked for a schedule of events, but with 3 day trips during our 1 week stay, we weren’t able to completely explore both resorts, anyway.

Room Tip: To best see the sunset from your patio, it would be better to be in the building on the left side (a...

As demonstrated by all the 5 star reviews Villa La Estancia is a very nice hotel. However, for me, it isn't worthy of 5 stars.

There are many very good things about this hotel. The rooms are quite nice and have enormous balconies with views of the ocean (this was a two bedroom suite). The service is generally very good. Rooms are kept extremely clean. The hotel is in a nice location on the beach -- 1 minute on the beach to Villa La Estancia's sister hotel and 30 min or so on the beach to the nearby town of Buserias. The pool area is nice and never felt too crowded. It was much easier to get a chair than other resorts.

So with so many nice things, why isn't it worthy of 5 stars?

- Food: I suppose it would be surprisingly good if doing the all inclusive, but I'd call it just solid. The best aspect of the food was the restaurant for dinner. That was pretty good. The breakfast buffet isn't bad, but probably a little worse than the breakfast buffets at similar resorts in Mexico. Most disappointing re food was the lunch at the restaurant at the pool. I tried three different things here and was never especially impressed, even for a pool restaurant.

-Wifi: Wifi reception was horrible. Probably the worst I've seen in the last three years -- at hotels from 2 to 5 stars in a number of different countries. It works well in the lobby. Outside of the lobby it varies from slow to useless. I'd find it disappointing if the hotel didn't offer wireless internet. The problem is that Villa La Estancia markets the rooms and public areas as having wireless internet. Don't promise this until you can truly deliver it.

-Music: If you figured that the prices and the "coveted "Four-Diamond award" that Villa La Estancia brags about on its website means you get relaxing music, you'd be wrong. The music at the pool was incredibly annoying. This may seem like extreme nitpicking, but several people mentioned this same issue. The problem is that the same songs play over and over and over and over and over (75% of the songs appear to be Beatles covers, but the repetition applied to all music). When you hear the same cover of "Hey Jude" or instrument version of Toto's "Africa" three times in one day it is annoying. When you hear this every day it is beyond annoying. Music is a small detail, but the point of a luxury resort is to relax, and when the repetitive music grows to the point of annoyance, it is a problem.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend Villa La Estancia

This is a really late submission…and I feel bad about this. We stayed here almost one year ago. Due to the fact that this property was so awesome, I wanted to make sure that a review was at least completed. For A-Z, this property had it all. We booked this property through Luxury Link and it was all inclusive. The room was AMAZING…we had a centrally located room overlooking the Pacific. The food, was outstanding, the service incredible. My only problem the entire time was that there was a little confusion with the pricing at the spa. They read the special as being at one price and I read it as another…so I am unsure what the problem really was. The resort next door, the Flamingos was lovely, although much busier and noisier. I loved Estancia for its quiet and calm appeal. The pools, the scenery..everything about it was classy. I cannot remember the name of the front desk clerks at this late date, but they were all exceptional and exceptionally wonderful. I wish that they would allow Luxury Link to put this on again as an all inclusive. I certainly would travel to the property again.. I truly loved it.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are beautiful

This hotel was amazing!!!! First when you walk in and check-in they give you a free finger rub and it felt good! It had a beautiful infinity pool. And me and my brother had our own room. Also it was by flea markets, restaurants, and some shops. All in all it was AMAZING!!!

Just spent 5 days in Estancia. Great trip, super relaxing. Was not crowded at all, felt very taken care of from the minute you get out of the cab. Great and speedy service from Felix and Raul and at the pool, and great waiters Giovani from Flamingos, as well as Alan at Estancia for pretty large breakfast orders. The pirate ship option in the All-Inclusive was super cool-very much predicated on being drunk, but fun if you can handle the seas and a little rowdiness. Claudia the Consierge was also super nice and attentive to all our needs! Great trip, great food, and great service.

Room Tip: Had an upper 1 bedroom suite floor, was more than enough space. Floor was otherwise empty and was to...

We have just arrived home from an extremely enjoyable holiday at the Villa Estancia. As many have mentioned, this is the ideal resort for anyone wishing to just relax and enjoy the peaceful, beautiful setting and super friendly service of all the staff. It seems that everyone goes above and beyond to ensure you are happy and enjoying your stay. We ended up feeling like we were leaving friends when it was time to return home. From the comments of the others guests, especially the "regulars", we understand this to be the norm.

We had the studio room with AI plan, which worked well for us. The food was the best we have experienced so far on Mexican holidays. The trade off might be the limited entertainment and variety of restaurant choices. This did not pose a problem for us, as we were seeking a quiet location and not party central. We were able to walk to Bucerias a couple of days and did have one dinner there, but were happy to return to the resort.

We preferred the buffet breakfast at the Flamingo, as there was always lovely fresh fruit, yogurts, made to order omelettes/eggs, waffles, and cappuccinos. The time share people could be considered entertainment or nuisances, depending how you view them, but they are not to be seen on the Villa Estancia side, only the Flamingo. We also tried the Italian restaurant at the Flamingo for afternoon pizza, which was quite good, and for 2 dinners, for variety, but our general preference was the more refined restaurant off the lobby La Casona, and a nice fruit plate at pool side restaurant at the Villa Estancia side.

As I mentioned, the staff are the very special part of the resort, We made an off hand remark to the concierge and bell staff that the bed was a bit firmer than we liked. Right away, they picked up the phone and had housekeeping put a foam topper on the bed and deliver different choices of pillows to ensure we were comfortable. They were always asking how we were doing and was everything okay and more often than not addressing us by name. We had lots of fun with several of the staff as they tried desperately to help us improve our very limited Spanish. We hope to return one day for another holiday.

Room Tip: We had a nice room on the 9th floor with excellent view of beach, but if internet is important, it w...

My family has been visiting Mexico for over 30 years. This visit transcended them all. The location, grounds, and rooms were magnificent. The service was top rate. We had the all-inclusive package which included eating at five different restaurants at the location and immediately next-door. The meals and service were exceptional. There were gorgeous sunsets every night on a very broad, clean and lovely beach stretching for miles.
The two bedroom suite was over 2000 ft.², and included a full kitchen, washer dryer, living and dining room and massive connected terrace overlooking the ocean.
We have visited Hawaii three
times this year and the Four Seasons Punta Mita earlier, yet we plan to return to this beautiful enchanting location as soon and often as possible.
