We didn't know where we were going until we got to the airport. We ended up going to Riu Vallarta, which I was excited about because I've heard really good things about Riu's. When we got to the hotel we were greeted by the staff that helped with luggage and gave us a cocktail. Ruiben was the customer service rep that helped us and he was great! We had a party of 8 and all of our rooms were next to each other. The rooms were nice and cold when we walked in, with views facing the ocean. The only complaint about the rooms are the pillows were terrible, even after we got more from housekeeping, I would recommend bringing your own. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels were replaced. Our favorite bar to drink at was in the lobby or sports bars. The bartenders there are wonderful especially Balisa (spelling) We also went there for coffee every morning. Our first night they had the Mayweather fight on, and we got American Football on Sunday! Best place to eat is Sir George, make sure you make reservations early because the best times fill up fast. Be aware of all the bee's at the swim up bar and pool bar. The entertainment staff is enjoyable and friendly. My best recommendation is for them to not have scheduled pool volleyball time but keep it open if people are playing. Everyday we played volleyball with about 20 people and we would be having so much fun and they would just come take down the net.

One suggestion, they do accept tips, and a little goes a long ways. Take care of the people that are taking care of you and you will have amazing service the whole time.

This hotel is not a fancy smanshy hotel so if that's what your looking for then don't stay here. I'd say it's a 4 star hotel appearance wise but the staff is 5 star and then some! Make sure to stop by the bar in the lobby and talk to Eli. He's amazing!

We just come back from an 8days trip (Sept.5-13/2013) to Pto Vallarta. Before our comments and sharing some experiences about this hotel, it's opportune to mention that we were hesitant in booking it because of some negative, nasty comments from few guests. We couldn't believe some of the complaints as we have been to many Riu hotels and all are regulated by strict code of business and providing good value for our vacations. So, we are here to confirm that the hotel itself is great. Traditional settings for hotel rooms, services, restaurants and bars. Beach area is quite large. We received courtesy attention from all managers we had opportunity to meet and our requests were promptly satisfied. Alexander and Carlos were very hospitable with all customers.Suggesting to contact them if need help or changes in accommodation.Food was good. Maybe a bit repetitive for lunch but overall, good and up to expectation.Restaurants a la carte excellent, service "super". Night entertainment pleasant (not Vegas style)but good. Bars excellent in variety and service (with smile). Wi-Fi availability is too restrictive to the 90 mins a day (over 24hrs).Pools need more maintenance during day (should NOT allow drinking in the water) Taxis avail. but public transp. will take you to Pto Vallarta with less $ and a lot of fun. We would and will go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: On hot and humid days, keep ceiling ventilator on ON all the times. If you ran out of drinks in the...

Customer service was good. The hotel itself is a nice property, the rooms are nothing fancy, but you're not here to stay indoors after all. They only offer Sol beer on the all inclusive bars, and they would only put 3 Tecate beers in my fridge and only every other day (3 beers per couple, that is odd!), unless of course you tip and talk to they guy re-stocking the fridge; liquor wise they do have some top shelf items. The food was great, some of it very fancy, but if it's hot when you go just watch out for dairy as they don't keep those in cold places and milk and desserts sometimes get a bit spoiled. Speaking of hot days, only air conditioning system is in your room, in the little sports bar, and in three of the restaurants, but like I mentioned, it's not even cool enough to keep dairy from spoiling. The WiFi at the lobby is free but only 90 minutes (per device) and is slow as a dial-up connection from the 90s. They put very good shows every night, and there are lots of activities going on throughout the day to keep you busy if you don't want to just relax. No Palapas at the beach, but there are plenty of palm trees. They must offer some kind of cheap weekend pass to Mexico City folks, 'cause they invaded the bars, suddenly there was a line to get a drink at the pool, and this is on the first week of September, and these were a loud aggressive and bit rude bunch of people. Be advised that Nuevo Vallarta is NOT Puerto Vallarta, met some people that were a bit dissapointed by that since you either need to get a $20 USD Taxi (each way), ride two buses to the Malecon, or rent a car, so if you plan on doing lots of things in Puerto Vallarta, might want to look for a hotel there.

We did an all inclusive for the March Break 2013 with the kids. It is the first time we brought the kids to Mexico with us. We usually leave the kids with the in-laws, but thought this year we would bring them with us. It was a great idea. The staff were excellent with the kids and we could feel the love from the people in town while traveling as a family instead of a couple. The food was as expected, I really enjoy Mexican food so if you ate what they are best at making there was no complaints. The room was spacious and we could see the Ocean from the room. We did a few excursions, and as a family it can get pricey. So we did a quick timeshare meeting, it took us about 2 hours of our time and we received 4 boat tickets and 2 massages that my wife used. We spent the day on a boat where we went to a beautiful beach call "Anamos" I think. Did some snorkeling by a big rock formation and a little dance on the boat. The children had a hoot. The only drawback is that the hotel was so large we did not want the kids wandering around without us. But a fantastic family trip. Would return for sure. If you can handle high pressure sales I would recommend a timeshare presentation to save you some money on excursions.

We arrived on August 24th and stayed 7 days. There were four of us traveling together. We got two rooms. Our room was very clean and everything worked good. My Mom's room the A/C and toilet did not work. The beds were very hard so we had the hotel staff put a foam pad on all the beds. Overall we slept really well.
I think we were the only American's there that whole week. Everyone else were locals. The pool was a lot of fun. The staff played music and did dances. They also played fun games and had water aerobics. Leo Aya was one of the entertainers and did a great job!!! The beach water was a little brown, but it was nice and warm. The staff was very good about serving you drinks the whole time. There were a lot of local people trying to sell you stuff all the time.
The food was good. There's a buffet that was inside for breakfast and dinner that offered a lot of different choices. The steak restaurant was ok, but I did not want to go back a second time. The lunch area was gross. It's an outside buffet next to the kids pool. There were birds flying around all over the food and tables. The chairs and floor were covered in bird poop. There were also flies all over the buffet. We only ate lunch once the whole trip.
The nightlife was fun! The shows were really good and entertaining. They also had live bands that played and everyone was able to dance. The only problem that we had is that a bunch of drunk people would stay up until 4:00 am yelling and screaming and it always woke us up.
We did go into town and it cost up $22.00 each way in a taxi. The city was nice and clean. We ate at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co and the food was amazing! They also had a ton of little stores to shop at.
Overall we had a great week and all the staff were very friendly!
