My hubby & I went to Grand Velas for our 10 year anniversary. We wanted someplace we could get to quickly (2 hour flight from DFW), that was all-inclusive so I wouldn't stress about spending too much, and adult-oriented (our kids were home with friends). It is also close to the airport, so we were off our plane, through customs, in a cab and at our hotel within an hour of landing. We knew we picked a great hotel, when rather than going to the front desk to check in, we were escorted to the lobby chairs and cool drinks and paperwork were brought to us. We stayed in a Master Suite which had a king sized bed, a small fridge, a jacuzzi tub and a wonderful view of the 3 level infiinity pool & beach. To say service was good is an understatement. There are more employees than guests and since the facility is large for the mere 161 rooms, you never felt cramped. Never once did we get in the elevator with another guest. Food selection was good - including a sushi chef at lunch, but I suspect 7 nights there eating at the same place would get a bit tiring. For our 3 nights, it was fine. In the lobby bar in the evenings, they usually had a band but no one was ever there. The spa there is one of the top ranked in Mexico. I had a pedicure which was as good as the one I get in my hometown. The spa itself is peaceful.
Being an all-inclusive, the meals, the drinks, the snacks & drinks in the mini-bar were all included as were all tips. Room service, 24x7, is also included but we didn't try that. The selection at the buffet and at the 2 restaurants were too interesting to us. Spa treatments were extra as are upscale wines (they had 4 pretty mediocre wines that are included)
While I've never written a trip review (read them all the time though and take many trips based on what I learn), my hubby and I were so impressed with the Grand Velas that we felt everyone should know. In taking to employees there, we learned there are building a few more Grand Velas around Mexico. We would stay at any of them again in a heartbeat.
Oh an a note about the kids. There were kids at the hotel but not many. We wouldn't take our kids there because we wouldn't want to disturb other guests who want to have a serene vacation and there isn't much for kids to do other than the pool and beach. Instead, we did visit their sister hotel, Velas Vallarta and are planning on taking our kids there in the spring.
