My husband and I were ready to try an all inclusive resort in Mexico to make up for our not so impressive honeymoon. The Grand Velas was recommended to us and it was amazing. We went over Thanksgiving and it was a very low key season. It wasn't overly packed, kids are allowed however it wasn't at all disruptive. The service was fantastic from the moment we arrived with quick massages, great drinks and explanation of the grounds and services. All of the staff were really sweet and nice. The rooms were very clean however I could never trust the hot tub. I filled it up and noticed dirt floating so I requested it to be cleaned agan and watched housekeeping clean it and it still gathered dirt after filling it up. Room service was prompt. The liquor was premium/top shelf. I am very picky and all the bartenders picked up on how specific I was and the were very accommodating. We ate at each of the restaurants and it was never a problem getting reservations. The food for the most part was good. I felt at times the meats were overly seasoned but it was just a matter of letting my server know my preference and they would change anything with no problem. The gourmet Mexican restaurant, Frida was disappointing. Both times our server just didn't seem very pleasant and made us feel unwelcome. I think a hidden gem here is the Azul restaurant. It is open all day, offers a buffet and is open on the terrace. At first we thought it was buffet only but there is also an option to order from the menu. We decided to dine there on our last night and we enjoyed it the most. The service did not at all feel rushed, we took our time ordering each course and trying different drinks. The server at Azul, Juan was really personable and just provided a great experience. It is a low key resort so if you are looking for action and a party scene this is not it. We didn't try the spa but it was beautiful. We checked out the gym because of all the over indulging and it was clean and convenient. My only other caution is to figure out your transportation from the airport in advance. we got conned into attending a timeshare meeting which we never went to and spent too much on a taxi. We were bombarded as soon as we passed through customs. That was due to our inexperience of the timeshare "game!" We had a great relaxing vacation and plan to return.
