Four of us ate here last night because Tripadvisor said it was the #1 rated restaurant in Nuevo Vallarta. I am wondering how that could be. The setting was fine; the food was unremarkable at best. They served us salsa and chips first. Chips were tasteless; salsa was made a day or two ago. They then brought the rolls which were burnt and old - right out of the freezer; bought at the grocery weeks ago. We ordered two glasses of wine - a Malbec and a Savignon Blanc - both barely passable. Then came our salads. My husband and I had the salad with apples - really? This was made by a chef? It was two leaves of romaine lettuce and lots of julienne apples that were obviously old and it took us a while to even identify them as apples. I had the chicken stuffed with shrimp and spinach which was presented well and passably good. My husband had the duck which was slices of meat floating in an strange, greasy sauce over pasta. One of our friends had the fresh fish which was the only acceptable item at the table. There actually may be some talent here and perhaps the chef was watching the Super Bowl but with all the other restaurants in Nuevo, this won't be a restaurant that I would offer a second chance.

We have been to this area for 19 years in a row. There are a lot of great restaurants in this area, this is not one of them. We had a reservation so we got a table for our party of 6 quickly. That was the last time we saw any of the staff for another 20 minutes. Finally we got some glasses of water and a bottle of wine, then 20 minutes more before they took food orders.
Coconut shrimp were dry with no sauce, the duck was cold in the middle, the "bowl" of clam chowder was barely a cup, etc, etc. After being told 5 times that our food would be there in just a minute it arrived 1 hour and 40 minutes after we had arrived. Even the owner stopped by to chat us up and when told that we had been there nearly 90 minutes disappeared into the indoor dining area rather than face us again. He was more interested in selling us tickets to his Super Bowl party the next day than seeing that we were taken care of.
There are way too many good choices with better service than for us to go back to this place. The owner tried to pass it off as "this is Mexico". I told him we have been coming to Mexico for 30 years and that was not a valid excuse. Dining at a Mexican pace is relaxing, waiting over 90 minutes to get food is nerve wracking. It wasn't just us, the couple next to us said it was their last visit, too.

Our first visit was fabulous. Our party was 14 and they were very accommodating. The waiters were fabulous. Very good plus entertaining. Best tuna ever.

Four of us dropped in with no reservations. There was a nice table waiting with very friendly wait staff to serve us. The food was outstanding, nicely prepare, excellent presentations and just the right size portion. We had a delightful evening and will definitely go back.
