Beautiful décor and grounds. Traditional Mexican. Friendly staff. They surprised us with flower petals at the doorway leading to the bed, flowers spelled "love" in Spanish, hot tub drawn with flowers! All inclusive. Excellent food.

Room Tip: ask for a room that faces the pool.

We really enjoyed our week at the Samba Vallarta. We visited in mid-May, when the resort was primarily occupied by Mexican nationals on vacation.

The room was basic but very clean; some art on the walls would be a nice added touch, but the decor was otherwise quite nice. Our room did not have a balcony, but many did, and the fourth floor was quiet and comfortable. The air conditioning shuts off when you are not in the room, but maintenance staff will change the settings to allow your room to stay cool at all times if you ask. In addition to being assiduous, the housekeeping staff brightened

The bars were solidly run and the drinks were variable -- sometimes just right and sometimes a bit on the weak side. Fermin was a great bartender and raconteur; ask for the "Fermin special" for a great cocktail treat.

Activities on site included boogie boards and sea kayaks; we went out kayaking several times and twice encountered wild dolphins surfacing at close range.

The food was consistently good (but not spectacular) at the buffet, with Mexican specialties available in abundance (this is not always the case in Mexico all-inclusives, and was a pleasant surprise here). Be sure to try the fresh empanadas for breakfast! The Italian restaurant was very good both times, with most dishes outstanding but the occasional dish that was a bit off.

Evening activities ranged from kids shows to traditional Mexican dancers to live music. Lots of activities for kids if you want to bring them. There were a couple of times when the decibel level at activities was comparable to being beneath an airport runway, and we would recommend to the staff that the volume of the microphone system be kept at a reasonable level.

Overall, this was a very relaxing and enjoyable base camp to explore Peurto Vallarta as well as the much closer village of Bucerias. We had a great time and would go back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are near the pool table and could be noisy; request a balcony.

This was our first experience in visiting Mexico and the Samba Vallarta. We were a little worried since our Spanish-speaking skills are lacking, but this wasn't a problem at the Samba as the staff was fairly bi-lingual. We never had any communication problems. All the staff was extremely friendly. Islandia's smiling face at the front desk was so helpful. She upgraded our room and we stayed in a suite with a balcony facing the pool/beach on the 3rd floor. The view was postcard perfect! The staff was so amazing! It may have been because we were stand outs among all the locals that were there with our pale complexions, but most of the staff remembered our names and greeted us around the resort by name as they saw us. The servers were fabulous! Alberto "Berto", remembered the drinks we always ordered and had them ready without us even having to ask. Carlos had a great sense of humor and made us feel right at home. We stayed a week and wished we could stay longer. This resort is smaller and not as commercialized, but the rooms were clean, beds were firm, so don't expect a pillow mattress. The suite may have offered noise insulation from the hallway, as we never heard anything at night and the evening disco (when they had it) could only be heard if you opened your window to the room or went out on the balcony. If you're looking for family friendly, this place is it. Activities were fun and entertaining. We enjoyed the food, but don't expect what you may be used to if you're American. I recommend to change it up a bit by eating at the a la carte restaurant for dinner once in a while during your stay. The Italian Restaurante Venezia was delicious! We hope to make it a new tradition to come and visit the Samba in the future and sharpen our Spanish skills so we can speak to the staff in their own language :) We cannot say enough about the beautiful beach, cabanas, beach-side drink service, etc. An unforgettable experience!

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool/beach side offer the best views

Unfortunately the quality of sleep one gets can dictate the resulting trip. In the case of Samba we did not sleep well at all. The beds were uncomfortable beyond belief and the noise you could hear from people running and playing in the hallways to the little disco on the resort it was very difficult to get a good night's sleep. The staff were friendly, the food was okay but the view was beautiful.

This was our tenth trip to the Samba and we are already planning the eleventh. Started going at least once a year when our kids were in school, they are now adults and still enjoy coming with us. Our most recent trip in April was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Samba did not disappoint. Over the years we have made some great friends with the fabulous staff, some who have been there over ten years. Special thanks to Ernesto for the fabulous dinner you arranged and as always the attentive and personal service by Salvador, Martin, Juan, Ricardo, Fermin, and Bruno goes above and beyond. You just don't get this at the big resorts.
As noted by others, the beach is fabulous, the pool good. The hotel is not glamorous, but the staff make this place special. Met the new manager Omar, who made sure we were well looked after.
Looking forward to our next visit in November!

This was our first stay at the Samba and we will thouroughly enjoyed ou stay here. From the time we checked in, until the time we checked out everything was awesome. It may only be listed as a 3.5 star hotel, but the staff treated us like a 5 start resort would have. The Staff here is awesome. The food was good. Our room was very good. We had a junior suite facing the pool. I would recommend this when booking (getting a room facing the pool/ocean). We never had any problems getting a spot by the pool, or on the beach. We have stayed at the bigger resorts in the area before but we much prefer this smaller / friendly hotel. A superb location on the beach.

Room Tip: We preferred a room overlooking the pool, a Junior suite, which had a great view of the resort as we...

In January 2013 I spent 10 days with my 18 year old daughter in the PV area. 5 days in downtown PV at the Buenaventura, and 5 days at the Samba Vallarta in Nuevo. We were sadly disappointed with the Samba. To start, our first room was on the bad side, next to the noisy RIU, with a king bed instead of the 2 doubles requested. Ugh. We had to wait until the next day to move - then we had a good room with 2 doubles and a balcony, which was great. Our first buffet experience was disappointing, and continued on.....from a serious fly issue in the fruit selection each morning, literally many dead flies between the slices of fruit.....to a long hair in the cheese for the nachos, to only a couple of choices at many of the dinners that appealed to us. My daughter actually ate cereal for dinner one night, it was that bad. We don't like seafood, but aren't that picky otherwise....I've stayed at quite a few all inclusives, and have never had such a disappointing food experience. Also, the buffet is near the back of the property, so not even a nice ocean view or breeze. There is a snack type restaurant with an ocean view, which had some usual greasy grub (burgers, nachos, fries)...nothing to write home about either.

Yes, the staff responded when we pointed out the fly issue, but it kept happening....perhaps the kitchen itself was invaded and not meeting standards ?

We hoped to attend the outdoor BBQ one night, but didn't make it to the reservation list in time...but that didn't matter in the end because people we talked to actually left the BBQ and came to the buffet because the flies/bugs at the BBQ were intolerable. And the meat was so overcooked - they couldn't eat it. *sigh*

One afternoon there was a busload of high school kids invading the pool area....really ? It seemed to be a fun field trip for them....but I could have lived without it.

Staff was always nice, but sorry, when there's flies between my watermelon slices, and my stomach is turning...even the nicest waiter doesn't make much difference.
The setting itself is quite nice, not too large, nice pools, beautiful grounds, good beach.....

However, that strip of Nuevo is a bit challenging if you want to get out and about. It's a very long walk to get anywhere by foot.....even to the bus stops up on the hwy....a long walk in the heat. You are pretty much taxi dependant.

Previously we have stayed at the Royal Decameron, which is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to Bucerias, and a 10 minute walk to the highway to get the bus to Sayulita or downtown PV. The location alone made a world of difference. The food was WAY better too.

All in all, I would never stay at the Samba again, or recommend it.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views, get a room on the inside overlooking the Samba pool area - not on t...

Dear guest,
First of all I would like to thank very much for choosing Samba Vallarta to spend your vacation. . We deeply apologize for not been able to met your standards, we honestly believe that our guests comments are the only way to improve our performance.
We do have a small hotel, only 183 rooms, and that information is on the web page, but we believe that been small is an asset, since you do not have to walk big distances from your room to the pool, beach, restaurants, etc., likewise, I would like to share with you that the hotel has been investing by upgrading the facility and has successfully positioned the property as an attractively priced, intimate, family-oriented option vs the enormous resorts that are its competition. On food, following our customer`s comments and suggestions, we have been constantly improving the variety of our buffet menus, we have a wide range of choices and are still continuously adding more options. . The best? , the quality of our friendly and courteous staff which make us a favorite for vacationers.
We sincerely hope you continue being one of our most valued guests at this your home Samba Vallarta to give us another opportunity to show you how unique and memorable your vacation can be!
Sincerely,

General Director
