“Good but should be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

Hard to find a quiet area by day on the beach or at the pools and by night in the restaurants. Staff were superb but overworked, especially in the restaurants where service could be very slow. Food was excellent with two exceptions when meals were replaced. Spa was highly disorganised and over-priced. My Valentine's Day present of a massage for my wife was cancelled when she showed up at the appointed time. Most disappointing for both of us.
The entertainment was poor, stage back-drops amateurish and sound system dreadful.
I would not return.

we've spent 4 days at the marival resort, in general we had a good time BUT
to go to the pool or the beach and to have No beach bed!!!!
The food was 6!!! but the desserts 2!!!! it's impossible to call yourself five stars hotel and to serve only jello as desserts!!!!
The day that we arrived we went to make reservation to the restaurants and for my surprise I been told that they are all reserved! it's outragous!!!! we paid triple the price of any 5 stars hotel !
The children's club there was a young lady that DIDN'T make any effort to convince my daughter to participate in their activities.
All the other activities that you are promoting as part of the vacation like diving or surfing were hiding and nobody offered us anything when we were on the beach.
The stuff that work in the swimming pool is more intrested in watching the young Americans girls than to serve the guest.
We speak Spanish and English and we also felt that they prefer the foreigner tourists so we switched to English,,,,,,lucky us.
I won't recommend this resort becuse we didn't get the full service for the price that we paid!!!!!!

Husband and I stayed for one week Feb 7 - 14,2012. We are early 60's and have stayed at
MANY Mexican all inclusive over the years.
In fairness, the resort has awesome staff, is clean with great pools and beach. However, maybe due to the time of year, but it was filled with either families or "retirees" who were in bed by 9 pm.
Staff: Excellent.
1 bed room Suite. Stayed in Block 7 ground floor. HUGE for 2 people. 1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, living room and microwave and small sink. Rooms either have small balconies or walk outs with chairs and tables. Location was terrific as was next to Adult Pool and within walking distance of Buffet and/or bars. Nice and clean. No problems with it except we found that people who were on the lower levels had the constant sound of the staff wheeling thru laundry and food supplies. (invest in rubber wheels?)
Food: Buffet not too exciting, but was varied and fresh. Loved the "Smoothie Bar" at breakfast and fresh cappochino machine. Ramon was a great "smoothie maker" and it was fun each day to chose different fresh fruits and veggies.
A la Carte: Book at lobby as soon as you can. We could not book for a few nights due to large groups who had taken up the space.
Italian: THE best with a super manager.
Mexican: #2 favourite again with great staff and manager
La Bambo Steak House: #3 favourite. Angel was our waiter and had just moved from Mexico City. So VERY professional and a delight to have as a server.
Mediterranean: Did not like at all. Pasta dry and lumpy (but may have been an off nite)
Pizza House: Near Adult Pool with awesome snacks and fresh wood oven pizzas AND a serve yourself ice cream station. Great!
We found the lobby bar (say Hi to Lupita from the Mandarin Vodka/Tonic Canadian)and M and M's bar the best to hang out and meet people that were OT in bed by 9 pm.
Disco was good.
Beach clean and safe. Vendors ++ and they had a little market outside of the property.
Massages: Go to beach, turn right and walk 5 mins. "Patty's Spa" gives TWO massages for either $50 (relaxing) or $70 (deep tissue). Husband and I tried both for that price and were not disappointed.
Internet: EXPENSIVE. Only cheaper option was to walk 30 mins to local mall and buy a Starbucks.
If you are single or are looking for some Party Life, this place is not for you.
Retirees and young families: great!
Overall a good place to stay that met our needs. It was a last minute booking and the price was reasonable, but we think another hotel next time folks.

Room Tip: Block 7 was good and close to everything. Suggest not ground level due to noise from staff and thei...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

We just returned, February 11th, from our first ever stay at the Marival. We were impressed with the landscaping as it was always immaculate. Although we had read mixed reviews on the food from others, we found it to be fantastic. The Amalfi (Italian) was a 5 star restaurant, and Los Palomas (Mexican) was also stupendous. Be sure to ask for the flaming Spanish coffee at Los Palomas.

The Buffet was a pleasant surprise. We ate breakfast there every day, and dinner one night, and enjoyed all of the food and wide selection.

The beach was cleaned every night and you can walk for miles. There is the problem with having to get up early to put our your towels, and maybe the management could look into instituting a policy like the cruise ships whereby if you leave your chair for more than an hour, they will take your towels off of it so that other people can use it.

We stayed in Building 11 which is extremely quiet at night so we never had any problems with noise.

The only issue we had was with the time share people on checkin, but you either have to just say no, or agree to go on some day and just not show up.

In summary, we had a great time and look forward to our next visit.

Both myself and my wife stayed at the Marival in early February. My wife's three brothers stayed here also, but in another suite. We stayed in suite 5102 on the ground level, very close to the beach, and nice and quiet. I had requested a quiet area of the resort before we arrived. We arrived at the resort early so our room was not ready. We checked-in and went to get something to eat. After we ate, we were able to get to into our suite. It was very spacious, with a full bathroom off the main bedroom and a bathroom with a shower off of the kitchen. We had a very spacious living room with a large flatscreen tv. The bedroom had two beds and tv. Very nice patio, from which you could see the beach and ocean. One of the swim-up bars was within easy access. The resort was very nicely maintained and very clean. The staff was VERY friendly, and service was great. I should mention that this is our second time at this resort. We prefer to eat dinner in the ala cart restaurants, but we ate dinner in the buffet for the first two nights, as we could not get reservations in the other resturants. The food was very good no matter where we ate. I can highly recommend the Italian, mediteranean and Mexican restaurants. Very good service and delicious food. The beach area is very well maintained. The only issue I had was that the guests put their beach towels on the choice beach seating before most people get up in the morning, and therefore "reserve" the best seating for themselves, while they go back to their rooms or get something to eat in the morning. Armando, the bartender at the adult swim-up bar, close to our suite, was very nice and very professional. The Marival still tries to promote their timshare property. I should also mention that the bus to downtown Puerto is really close to the main entrance to the resort, so it is relatively easy to get to town. I did not go into town on this trip, but I do recall the bus drops you off before you get to town and another bus takes you into Puerto. VERY inexpensive transportation. The marina in Nuevo Vallarta is only a short taxi ride away. Great five night vacation. I would stay here again. P.S. Although this is an all inclusive resort, it is a nice "thank you" to tip a little for good service.

Room Tip: Ask for a quite room away from elevators and hallways with a lot of foot traffic.

we stayed here for my Daughter's wedding I was not impressed with this resort food was hit or miss hamburgers at the beach snack bar didn't have any beef in them I don't know what they were made of but it wasn't good I threw it a way. the beach bartenders were on the crabby side but the lake night snack bar bartenders were really fun maybe because it wasn't as busy. The late night pizza wasn't to good unless you like hot dogs and other weird things on it.Our room needed to be renovated had grout missing in the bathroom tile and holes in the walls that were not repainted. for what we paid I would not recommend this resort.
