Stayed for one week at this beautiful resort and want to make plans to return next year. Booked Royal and I had found it for the same price as a regular room. It really isn't needed although we did enjoy a few perks.
Checkin - arrived in mid afternoon with Westjet vacations and we were the only ones arriving at this hotel at this time. I showed my confirmation to the bellboy and asked if there was a special place I was to check in as it clearly specified Royal Service. He pointed me to the front desk which was no big issue as there were no other people waiting anyway. So again I showed the confirmation to the desk clerk and he checked his records and gave me room 638 which was in the section I would expect for Royal Service and gave us blue bands for our wrists . After going to the room decided to go to the 7th floor to check out the lounge, and restaurant and met Gabriela and Seul who quickly informed us that they had been waiting for us and we were supposed to have checked in with them. Oh well, blue bracelets were cut off and we received black and white ones (that matched more of our clothes!!!) and we received a listing of the amenities that the Royal Service granted us.
Rooms - as mentioned we were in room 638 which was right in front of the elevators but really not very noisy at all. I was concerned about that but only noticed the noise one night when the hotel was very full of nationals and they were partying in the lounge but only til about midnight. Hallways are not enclosed and overlook the lobby and the lounge area. Rooms were very comfortable and even though there wasn't much space for hanging up clothes, there were lots of drawers - 3 in each night table, 3 in the closet and a nice counter/desk area. Bed was very hard but still slept great. Yes would have liked a balcony but it certainly didn't wreck our vacation. View was beautiful from the window. Basket of fruit was on the table and the bar fridge contained 4 waters, 1 pepsi, 1 7 up and 2 beer and was refilled each day. Never used the coffee maker however my sister in the next room did and we went across the street to the little grocery store to pick up some milk to keep in the fridge for her coffe as she hates powdered creamer.
Bathroom was very nice with a bowl sink and beautiful huge shower. Even had 6 drawers on the wall with a counter on top for toiletries which I thought was great.Had all of the usual toiletries, 2 washcloths, 2 hand towels and 4 large bath sheets,
Had turn down service each night when they would turn down the sheets, change your towels if required and leave you 2 Hershey chocolate kisses per day.
Food - Ate at the buffet most days and always found something I enjoyed. Usually had fruit, hashbrowns, sausage, yogurt and the best sweet buns for breakfast, and a variety of things for lunch and dinner. Sometimes food was a little cool but that quite often happens with buffets. Tried to go early for each of the meal times to beat the rush and got great service.
Ate at the Italian one night and it was wonderful food however the room is enclosed and has no airconditioning, just fans so was very hot and humid. Men did not enjoy having to wear long pants here. Never ate at the Mexican however heard good and bad about it. Ate one breakfast and one dinner in the Royal Service restaurant and enjoyed both. Felt kind of weird as we were the only ones there for breakfast and there was only one other occupied table when we had dinner. Breakfast was a buffet like downstairs however much less variety. Did find though the berries and food were better. Dinner was fantastic with great service. Portions may have been smaller but we certainly ate enough anyway.Great airconditioning up there too.
Beach - Beautiful - could walk for a very long distance and found lots of shells. Waves were fun to play in and having the use of the cabana's was nice for a nap. Yes there were vendors walking by but after a no thanks, most left you alone. Absolutely no rocks and very little grass in the water so was great to walk in. Sand did get very hot to walk on in the afternoon though and noticed lots of people running across the sand to get to the cooler wet sand.
Pool - There were 2 pools - suposedly one adult and one for children but found that the nationals when they were there did not observe this and there were children in the pool, The hotel was not very busy especially on the Tuesday and Wednesday - felt like we had the pool to ourselves and the great friends that we met.
Bars - the hotel has 2 bars (I guess 3 if you include the one in the Royal section although we never had anything from there) The beach bar had the best drinks and the service was wonderful as well. You would walk up thinking you were never going to be served due to the amount of people there and were served in just a couple of minutes. No need for your own cups either as they served the drinks in larger hard plastic glasses.
The only complaint I would have is that there was only a couple of times that there was servers walking around and when you did get a drink, you didn't get a napkin with so there was constantly a ring of water on the table from the glass sweating in the heat.
Timeshare sharks - yes there is a time share (vacation club ownership, whatever) desk right in front of the elevator so you do see them all of the time however after the 1st couple of refusals for their offers, they left you alone other than to greet you each and everytime you walked by.
Activity group - because this is a smaller hotel, it seemed like people were there to relax and although the activity group tried, the actual activities were pretty lame. They had the usuals like water areobics, water polo, bocci ball, ping pong tables, lazy game(where they would ask you to guess how many items were in a container and the winner would get a t-shirt) etc. At night these same people would be in the lounge for things like "Mr Occidental" (which was fun to watch but not so fun to participate in - my brother-in-law was volunteered by his wife and ended up having to do things like a "sexy dance" for over 1 1/2 hours and only the person picked as the best won a t-shirt), kareoke, etc. Best show was a 60's, 70's production show that was great. Some evening entertainment is held in the lounge and some are at the theatre in front of the beach.
Overall had a great trip and would go back in a heartbeat. Please feel free to send me a message if any questions,
