“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2004

Just returned from P.V. and we really had a great vacation. Particularly enjoyed it after our disastrous trip last year to Honduras. Food and staff at Riu were great. Beach was wonderful as you could just walk for miles. Only complaints were that the drinks were watered down and rooms had a very unpleasant odour although they were very comfortable and luxurious. Suspect mould is the problem.

We were there Jan. 7-14 th. Service was slow & they didn't care if you you needed anything or not. Called the front desk the first day ...light in bathroom didn't work....they never fixed it while we were there....asked for an ice bucket...never got one. The last night we were there, water was running out of the light fixture...broken pipe somewhere. Puerto Vallarta was great....hotel was BAD! I'm glad we didn't spend much time at the hotel. We did alot of excursions.

Stayed for 7 days at the Riu Jalisco and had the ultimate pleasureable experience. From the ocean, pools, excellent food, magnificent gardens, and the great staff it was truely a great experience. I would go back in a minute. You never have to leave the grounds for anything.

Four of us woman went first our first ever 2 week getaway to Mexico. On arrival this place looks fantastic!!We were placed in clean, colorful rooms with a 5 star view of a dusty parking lot. Not acceptable. Were moved the next day to a better view of the court yard, much nicer. On the 6 day, after returning from the beach, and prepairing for dinner we noticed some of our toilteries were moved. After closer inspection I noticed my medications were wet and therfore ruined. We started to panic and did inventory to find money, jewely, perfume, shampoo all missing. We imediately went to the front dest to file a report. They seemed simpathetic and told us they would start a investagation tommorrow. Tommorrow for them never can!!!We set a trap the next day to find again that things were shifted around, after the maid was done for the day. I went to the manager this time. He promised some compensation could be expected, to come with a detailed list tommorrow. I delevered that list, but guess what. Tommorrow never came again. So it was a very expensive vacation lesson. They clain to be a 5 star, but never did I have to clean my own table and find silverware, even at 3 stars.
Overall we were dissapointed in the whole experience, and would'nt recomend this hotel to anyone. If you go please use the safe for everything including meds, perfumes cameras, cigarettes and even expensive clothing,if youcan manage to squeese it in,as they also stole some clothing. Happy to be home

Just got back from the Riu. We had booked a Junior Suite and to our surprise were updated to a Master Suite. If you look at the hotel..it is the top lest tower. There are only 6 in the hotel. We had a large livingroom, bedroom and a double balcony...oh yes, and a spiral staircase on the balcony that went up to a large sitting area with a jacuzzi. We had also stayed at the Riu Palace in the past. The food at the Palce was a little better and the Brazilian Restraunt at the Palace had exoctic meats (rabbit, wild boar..etc) The one at the Jalisco had..chicken, steak) Also, at the Jalisco a lot of people did not adhere to the dinner dress code. The guest were about 90% Canadian..fun folks. We took a 45 minute stroll up the beach to Bocerias...sat on the bar at eh beach and played dominoes..great little town.Would highly recommend the Vallarta Adventure tour to Yelapa..not a lot of people go..so it was not one of those real touristy excursions.Would also recommend the Cuban restaraunt in Puerto Vallarta. We had a great time!

Just got back two days ago. We went with a couple friends of ours and had the best time ever. Food, property and staff were great. I will be going back very soon. Forget cruises, this place is top notch.
