To begin with, my husband and I are not really fans of the all inclusive experience as we prefer the fun and activity of Old Town Vallarta mixed with its wonderful restaurants. That said, this was the best all inclusive experience we have had in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta so far. We chose the Preferred Club package at this resort. We were whisked away to our personal concierge on the 8th floor where Ana, new to her job, efficiently checked us into our ocean view room and was extremely helpful during our stay. Having read other reviews regarding the coupons offered by the hotel, we avoided this timeshare trap and were never bothered once about purchasing a timeshare at the resort. While the beer, soft drinks, and treats might not compare to resorts such as the Riu, it was ample for our needs. The continental breakfast items, daily snacks, and supplies for cocktails provided through our Preferred Club Status were enjoyed daily. Nothing like a cold beer, chips, and fresh pico de gallo after a hard day at a beautiful beach! We also appreciated the 3 hour extension on our check-out time which enabled us to spend our day on the beach and then freshen up before our flight home.
Not enough can be stated about the staff at this resort. We tipped workers daily, but observed that the staff treated everyone the same whether they tipped or not. Minimum wage in Mexico is the equivalent of $5/ week; we loved the fact that we could make a worker's day by ensuring they were recognized for their long days of serving us. A special thank you to Ana Marie, our fabulous maid, Luis and Jose at Portofinos, Gerardo at Oceana, and Fernando on the beach for making our holiday so special.
The only meal we did not enjoy was at El Patio; while the starters were tasty, the main meals were not great with the chicken being tasteless and the pork mainly fat. This is the one criticism we had of our entire holiday at this resort.
The gym was minimal with 2 treadmills, an elliptical which remained in repair for the week we were there, some weights, and a few machines. Most people seemed to enjoy the long walks on the beach or the daily yoga sessions at 9 a.m. Personally, I used the gym between 4-6 p.m. and had no problem accessing the equipment I wanted to use.
As to the beach vendors, this is the culture of the country and we readily accept people trying to make a living The vendors were always polite and appreciated the fact that you engaged them in conversation regarding their work and items for sale.
Overall, we would return to this resort for its cleanliness, decent food, amazing staff, solitude, and incredible beach.
