This hotel is so great. Very comfortable. Staff goes out of their way to make your stay glorious!
Easy to get around. Not too big. Very well maintained!! Beautiful grounds. All the restaurants were very good. The chefs work very hard to please. The nightly entertainment is fabulous. Do you like martini's? Try the watermelon or chocolate! You won't be disappointed with any cocktails.

PROS: Resort itself it very beautiful. Grounds are gorgeous. Rooms very nice, clean, & well appointed. Bathrooms are large. We had a great view from our balcony room, that overlooked the pool & ocean. Room service was fast, efficient, & curteous. The staff were always accomodating, friendly, and gracious. Beach is great. It is clean, plenty of seating, and shade. Lots of activities through out the day. CONS: The food was average (very)! The best restaurant was the steak house & the fusion restaurant was a great experience. Night life is limited to basic musical type shows. If you go off campus it is about a 10 minute ride to town. The pool shuts down at 7:00pm every night. By early noon the pool feels like very warm bath water. The pool was always very crowded & kiddos are everywhere, no matter where you are. They especially like hanging out in the bar area. It seems they allow the locals to come in and swim on a day pass. This is a great family resort. But not somewhere to go, if you are looking for some one on one time with your significant other.

We did meet amazing nice people, from Canada, USA, Portugal and many other places. Unfortunately there were way too many children! I would have returned in a heart beat if it wasn't full of their locals and their screaming kids! I'm sorry but they would order an outrageous amount of drinks without tipping and just leave them all over the pool area, not to mention a total disregard to people around them. The people who work here are very nice and hard working, the place is spotless. We had the most amazing room overlooking the pool and ocean with a jacuzzi on the huge corner patio suite, truly the best room I've ever had!

Room: Good...was expecting bathtub to have a glass panel, not a cheap plastic curtain. If you book two rooms with your family/friends, get ones next to each other. Almost like a two bedroom suite. Housekeeping could have done a better job restocking water and coffee. Room service food options extremely limited and not exciting.

Food: good options at the buffet; was disappointed at the limited a la carte options as only 1-2 were open every evening due to low occupancy. Tried Krystal; was ok.

Drinks: we don't drink alcohol, so options were limited. Best options were frwh juices at breakfast. Other juices were plain sugary

Staff: Somewhat Friendly at the reception desk, but they won't go out of their way to help. Always are on the lookout to make more money(phone calls, late checkout etc). Entertainment staff was energetic and fun, but were always on the border of flirtatious. Not enough engagement with kids as with women :) Was impressed with some of the restaurant wait staff who went out of their way to make us comfortable. Appreciated the friendly but professional touch.

Entertainment: Night entertainment not kid friendly sometimes; in fact had one family walk out in the middle of the show with the dad shouting "nasty"! The traditional mariachi entertainment was nice.

Room Tip: If travelling with family or friends, get two adjacent rooms. Almost like a two bedroom suite

Just had 6 fantastic days here. Everything was spot on. Had recently visited Riu Yacatan which was great but this was a cut above that one for service and variety of food. If you don't like it here you are hard to please.

fabulous hotel, food great, they even created a non smoking area in the out side dining at the buffet.Entertainment good, drink selection first class, but one major problem, lack of public toilets. No toilets by any pools or beach, the closest was below the buffet or in the front lobby!!we saw little boys urinating in to the pool, who knows what was happening in the pool!!!! I complained to the front desk and they told me they had ,had many other similar complaints and planned to rectify the situation,we will see!I would still go again but stay out of the pool when busy

Room Tip: stay away from the ice machine

I will start off by saying, my husband and I definitely like upscale places, but our main focus is getting into the local culture. We always try to eat away from tourist places so we can get a feel for what it is really like for the people that live in these destinations.

The Riu is a gorgeous hotel. They are constantly mopping and cleaning so the marble/title, floors are at a constant shine. The rooms were nice, nothing spectacular, but large and comfortable. We were upgraded to an ocean view room at check in, I'm not sure there is much of an advantage to those rooms verses the partial views, as we still could not see the beach.

We chose this place, knowing it was not near anything, but hoping we would be able to lay around the pool/ocean and soak up the sun for 4 days.

Things that were good:
The pool area and beach are very nice. plenty of places to relax.
The bar tenders keep your drinks full all day.
The rooms are spacious
The staff is very friendly
The 80 minute couples massage was AWESOME!!!!

Things that weren't so great!
The beds were firm, had body imprints, and uncomfortable. The pillows were hard too. which made sleeping not so enjoyable.
The halls echo, the pool echos, so unless you are passed out drunk sleeping is very difficult.
I do not drink alcohol and the non alcoholic drink options were lame. I drank a lot of mango juice from concentrate I'm sure. They did not have fresh fruit smoothies which I totally expect in the tropics and at such a nice resort.
The food was just okay. Not aweful, but not authentic. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style, which just isn't my thing, maybe its yours. dinner, except for the buffet, required reservations and specific attire. The odd part was that it was off season and not croweded yet reservations were limited. They required formal attire at one restaraunt and pants at all the others (except buffet), sure it helps with the atmosphere, but I'm on a tropical vacation and just want to wear my swim trunks all day.
Riu has a policy where locals can come in with day passes or stay for really cheap which was a nice touch at getting near the local culture. However, they over took the swim up bar, there were children jumping and splashing around the bar and the 'in pool' lounge seating, making it hard to find any peace.
Lastly, they had nightly entertainment, which was cute, but as fare as quality....well.... it was dancers lip syncing to american music. I would have rather seen Mexican entertainment, because I certainly can tell this is a culture that loves to dance and have fun, as the theatre was packed with locals every night.

I don't want to be too lengthy, or sound too picky. I really do think the hotel was just okay. We will not likely do an all inclusive thing again, but definitely not somewhere the beds are that uncomfortable and the food is just mediocre.

Room Tip: Ocean views are farther from the ocean and in the center of the "U" shaped hotel making al...
